The King Is Dead - Long Live The King?

0 Posted 9th Feb 2010 03:10 PM by Leord

ArthasOne year and three months after the Lich King was set loose upon World of Warcraft's Azeroth, he has finally been defeated. But can the King of MMOs keep its crown now the arguably most infamous villain in Warcraft lore is dead?

WorldofWar.net's own Maticus has looked further into the Lich King lore and is bringing out the spyglass off ice over at our parent site, IncGamers.com. It's a very interesting column about the story of Arthas, and his importance in the world of WarCraft (rather than World of WarCraft). Here is a short snip:

As Blizzard pointed out after the announcement of Wrath of the Lich King, Arthas isn't the only bad guy in Warcraft's history, not by a long shot. And in terms of lore, he only appeared in the chapter directly before WoW. So to players who've been with the Warcraft series since its RTS days, Arthas was admittedly a big deal, but his death isn't.

Now, before you head over there to enjoy this insight into the Lich King, there are big SPOILER WARNINGS ahead. If you are terribly frightened of learning more than you have played through in the game, the article should be approached carefully!

2010 Love is in the Air Tips

2 Posted 9th Feb 2010 10:36 AM by Medievaldragon

Love is in the Air this year is more straightforward than ever before. You complete quests and get five love tokens which later you can spend at the Lovely Merchant to acquire certain items that help you complete the achievements. It involves time consumption minus the tedious random factor. Much more efficient.

There are two particular achievements in the Love is in the Air world event that will help you save time and tokens. When you purchase a box of chocolates for 10 Love Tokens, there's a chance that one or more Buttermilk Delight drops. Go to Dalaran. If you don't already have one, ask on General Chat for someone who has the Romantic Picnic Basket. Sometimes people already have one down, so go around Dalaran first. However, it seems they only work if they are of your own faction.

Click on the basket located next to the umbrella, and make sure someone is sat down. You can offer someone a few gold for the favor if no one assists you. Once you have someone sitting with you after clicking the basket, click the Buttermilk Delight item. Theoretically you will accomplish two achievements at once:

  • Lonely?: Enjoy a Buttlermilk Delight with someone in Dalaran at a Romantic Picnic during the Love is in the Air celebration.

  • Sweet Tooth: Sample the Love is in the Air candies listed below: Buttermilk Delight, Sweet Surprise, Dark Desire and Very Berry Cream

Another cool tip. Have you noticed how you get usually one Lovely Charm every two or three kills? Sometimes longer. Some people like certain favorite spots such as the Fallen Hero mobs in Icecrown Glacier (west of Ymirheim), but unless you are a warrior, paladin or death knight or someone with good AOE you could die taking so many of them at once. Others take them one by one. The lone ones that is. Too risky. Too time consuming.

Other people usually queue to random dungeons for the emblems of frost, emblems of triumph and the gold rewards to also farm these Lovely Charms. However, the sweet spot is definitely Caverns of Time: Old Stratholme. Here is why. As a shadow priest it was really annoying to kill a few fallen heroes in Icecrown and I wouldn't get so many Lovely Charms. I even went the random dungeon LFG route. In those I managed to get maybe six Lovely Charms if I was lucky, and no more than eight. However, when I went to the Caverns of Time: Old Stratholme (normal-mode) I went out of shadow form to use the Holy Nova on the zombies. They are low HP and would die with two Holy Novas.

I got 50 Lovely Charms in a single run, and that because there was another player farming them. After you defeat Mal'ganis, run back and explore the entire dungeon. There are more zombie respawns all the way back to the entrance to Stratholme which gives you additional Lovely Charms. When you gather 10 of them, you can click them to create a Lovely Charm Bracelet. These are used on the dailies given by Kwee Q. Peddlefeet, which asks you to bring a Lovely Charm Bracelet to the city's leader. There are four daily quests per day for this on Orgrimmar, Undercity, Thunderbluff and Silvermoon (Horde) or Stormwind, Ironforge, Darnassus and Exodar (Alliance). That's a total of 20 Love token rewards per day.

Additionally, there is an achievement titled Charming which asks you to create 12 Lovely Charm Bracelets. Happy hunting.

Bornakk posted a new change to certain items in the Lich King encounter that will surely benefit many players. They are optimizing the stats of these items to make them more appealing to players. For example, some items with MP5 were changed for Haste rating.

Blizzard Quote:
After reviewing several items available from the Lich King encounter, we've decided to re-optimize certain weapons that didn't meet with our expectations and the quality that the Lich King expects. The weapons listed below, both their Normal and Heroic versions, will now better represent their respective roles and present more intriguing options to players.

Blacktip Shark Rewards for Kaluak Fishing Derby

1 Posted 8th Feb 2010 08:55 PM by Medievaldragon

Blizzard posted on Twitter that every Saturday at 2:00 p.m. you can try to catch the elusive Blacktip Shark in the Kalu'ak Fishing Derby. It drops the Pirate Dread Ring -- a Bind to Account item which increases experience gained from killing monsters and completing quests by 5%.

The other item, Boots of the Bay, is a blue quality boots with +15 fishing skill and allows you to teleport to Booty Bay. You can take a look at both items at the following here.

Blizzard Quote:
The esteemed tuskarr of the Kalu'ak are proud to introduce to Northrend the Kalu'ak Fishing Derby, a test of fishing skill with a healthy dash of luck! Every Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. players can try to catch the elusive Blacktip Shark. Elder Clearwater sits in Dalaran for one hour awaiting the return of the quickest, most experienced fisher to bring him the first catch of the night. This champion fisher will be rewarded in-kind for his or her fishing expertise. Those who aren't able to return with the first catch will still receive a just reward for getting the Blacktip Shark to Elder Clearwater before he takes his leave.

It is said that these sharks' favorite meal are the bite-sized Pygmy Suckerfish. Perhaps a hook in their waters will do the trick. Because of the increased concentration of fish, you have a higher chance to catch a shark from fishing pools.

The derby winner will receive a substantial chunk of experience (or money at maximum level) and gain 5,000 reputation with the Kalu'ak. In addition, the champion will be given a choice between two unique rewards:

See Leord and Maticus Die

2 Posted 8th Feb 2010 06:18 PM by Leord

See Leord and Maticus Die. Literary. I had the pleasure to play some Global Agenda beta together with Elly, Rushster and Maticus (who now mostly does MMO news for our parent site, IncGamers.com). We thought it would be fun to record some of these gun-slinging adventures, and discuss the gameplay. After long time of playing, and putting together the video, and giving it a voice-over; this is the result. Well worth a look, if nothing else then to see myself, Elly, Rushster and Maticus die repeatedly, and/or to hear how me and Maticus sound IRL! What are you waiting for, check it out here:

NetEase Submits WoW To GAPP, Again

1 Posted 8th Feb 2010 02:21 PM by Maticus

World of Warcraft's operator in China, NetEase, has submitted its latest application to run the game's first expansion, The Burning Crusade, to the General Administration of Press and Publications following months of allegedly “illegal” operation.

WoW was taken offline in China for several months last year following NetEase's takeover from previous operators, The9. The downtime was due to a delay of approval from the GAPP. Eventually, WoW re-launched in China in September, however, GAPP representatives claimed that no authority had been given and demanded that NetEase cease charging people to play the game, and stop accepting new registrations, or face hefty fines. NetEase did neither.

Around the time that WoW went back online without GAPP's authority, China's Ministry of Culture announced that online games do not come under the jurisdiction of GAPP, only the MoC, and that it had the sole right to punish companies running online games.

NetEase then submitted its application for WoW's second expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, directly to the MoC.

However, today NetEase stopped accepting new registrations for WoW until 14 February and announced that existing gamers will receive three hours of free play each day. This seems to be a compromise of GAPP's previous demands, which would make sense considering that GAPP also announced today that is has agreed to review Net Ease's application for its first expansion, The Burning Crusade (the version that's currently running in China).

Sounds like a mess, but NetEase and Blizzard must be keen to get the issue sorted. China's WoW players account for a massive proportion of the game's reported 11 million subscriber base. The fact that Wrath of the Lich King isn't live over there yet either, over a year after it was released in the west, must also be frustrating.

Icecrown Citadel Raid Weekly Quests Revealed

1 Posted 5th Feb 2010 09:46 PM by Medievaldragon

Slorkuz announced the official list of Raid Weekly Quests found within the Icecrown Citadel to give you that extra edge to spice the encounters with variety and extra challenge.

Blizzard Quote:
Now that Icecrown Citadel has been fully unlocked, allowing players the ability to progress in 10- and 25-player formats to defeat the Lich King, new raid weekly quests have been unlocked! These quests are specific to the Icecrown Citadel raid dungeon and do not correspond with the standard random raid weekly quest offered in Dalaran. Here's an overview of what you need to know.

One of five quests will be randomly available each week in both 10- and 25-player versions of the dungeon. This means each player has the opportunity to complete two Icecrown Citadel raid weekly quests each week if the dungeon is run in both versions, however, these quests have to be completed within the raid version (10- or 25-player) in which they are offered.

If a player obtains one of these quests but does not complete it that week, the quest will automatically be removed from the player's Quest Log the next time Lord Marrowgar is defeated under a new raid ID, or when zoning into an instance with a new raid ID where Lord Marrowgar has already been defeated. This only applies if the random raid weekly offered when the player enters a fresh Icecrown Citadel raid instance happens to be different from the one already in his or her Quest Log. Players can otherwise simultaneously have both the 10- and 25-player raid weekly quests in their Quest Logs and complete either of them at any time during the week in their respective raid versions. The quests given each week in 10- and 25-player versions of Icecrown Citadel will be randomly determined once Lord Morrowgar is killed, or once a player zones into an instance where Lord Morrowgar has already been killed.

The Quests:

  • Deprogramming - Look for a rogue named Infiltrator Minchar outside of Lady Deathwhisper's chamber. He'll speak of a brainwashed operative who needs saving from the lady's powerful means of influence. While engaging Deathwhisper, keep an eye out for a warrior named Darnavan among her minions. He must live if your raid group is to succeed in completing the quest.

  • Securing the Ramparts - After taking the platform up to the ramparts from Lady Deathwhisper's chamber, a lieutenant of your faction will seek your help in slaying the Rotting Frost Giant on the other end of the ramparts terrorizing his troops. Bring the monster down and return to the lieutenant for your reward.

  • Residue Rendezvous - Should you succeed in killing Deathbringer Saurfang, you will soon meet Alchemist Adrianna upon lurking further into the citadel. She will task your group with the unfortunate job of being infected by both a Green Residue from Rotface and an Orange Residue from Festergut. While infected with both residues, at least one player from the raid must speak with Alchemist Adrianna in order for everyone in the group to receive credit.

  • Blood Quickening - Outside the Crimson Hall awaits Alrin the Agile to inform your group that his friend, Infiltrator Minchar, has been captured by the San'layn for interrogation. Should you choose to help in rescuing Minchar, you will have 30 minutes from the moment you step foot in the Crimson Hall to kill Blood-Queen Lana'thel before she executes him. Fortunate enough for you, she will not kill Minchar if she is busy fighting your group.

  • Respite for a Tormented Soul - If your group can successfully free Valithria, she will morph into her humanoid form to offer you a quest in a more approachable manner. Providing each player who accepts the quest with a Pulsating Life Crystal, a channeling device, Valithria will speak of a way to save Sindragosa's spirit. Members of the raid who use these crystals on Sindragosa when she is below 20% health will slowly stack on her the Life Infusion debuff. Reaching 30 stacks (10-player) or 75 stacks (25-player) of Life Infusion before she dies will provide the frost wyrm with an aura of Soul Preservation. If your group manages to give Sindragosa this aura before killing her, a quest item can be obtained from her remains to complete Valithria's task.

The Reward:
Completing any of these quests will reward each member of the group with a Sack of Frosty Treasures and a healthy chunk of gold. The sack will contain Emblems of Frost and other potentially valuable items!

Description

When the world of Azeroth was young, the god-like titans brought order to it by reshaping its lands and seas. Throughout their great work, they followed a magnificent design for what they envisioned Azeroth would become. Although the titans departed Azeroth long ago, that design endures to this day. It is known as the Emerald Dream, a lush and savagely primal version of the...

WORLD OF WARCRAFT

Many are the mysteries surrounding the Emerald Dream and its reclusive guardians, the green dragonflight. In times past, druids have entered the Dream to monitor the ebb and flow of life on Azeroth in their never-ending quest to maintain the delicate balance of nature.

However, not all dreams are pleasant ones. Recently the Emerald Nightmare, an area of corruption within the Emerald Dream, began growing in size, transforming the Dream into a realm of unimaginable horror. Green dragons have been unexpectedly caught up in the Nightmare, emerging from it with shattered minds and twisted bodies. Druids who have entered the darkening Dream lately have found it difficult -- sometimes even impossible -- to escape.

Nor are these the Nightmare's only victims: more and more people are being affected. Even Malfurion Stormrage, first and foremost of the druids on Azeroth, may have fallen victim to this growing threat. As uncontrollable nightmares spread across the world, a desperate quest begins to find and free the archdruid.

Soon nature's enemies will learn the true meaning of the name ... STORMRAGE.

WoW Patch 3.3.2 - Tanking and Survivability Changes

0 Posted 5th Feb 2010 08:20 AM by Medievaldragon

The WoW Team has been monitoring the Icecrown Citadel encounter in the upper level and the Lich King encounter and have decided to make a few adjustments to tank survivability. Regardless of these changes, expect to see more as needed. The WoW team will continue to monitor data to make additional adjustments. This might cause some unforeseen effects on PvP, and adjustments made there accordingly.

Blizzard Quote:
Crygil: We are making some adjustments to tank survivability based on what we’re seeing in Icecrown Citadel. We feel this is particularly important in preparation for upcoming Heroic attempts. This is tricky and occasionally subjective, so we might very well make more adjustments as we get even more data.

Paladin:
  • Sacred Duty now provides 2 / 4% Stamina, down from 4 / 8% Stamina. The cooldown advantages of the talent remain unchanged.

Death Knight:
  • Frost Presence now provides 8% Stamina, up from 6% Stamina.
  • Icebound Fortitude now provides 30% base damage reduction, up from 20% damage reduction. For a geared tank with high defense, this translates to 50% damage reduction, up from 40%.

It’s important to note that we aren’t trying to single out paladins here. We like the tank balance of warriors and druids at the moment, and we have a larger sample size of warrior tanks that we can compare. Another solution would have been to buff warriors, death knights and druids and then increase boss damage accordingly. Obviously, that would have been a much larger change with greater risks and a longer delay.

Though Ardent Defender is always a possible target for changes, we like that this talent provides such a distinction between warriors and paladins. Rather than have all the tanks have the same health, armor, avoidance and cooldowns, we’d rather have four unique tanking classes rather than just superficial or artistic differences. Yes, that design is harder to balance, but we think class distinction is ultimately more interesting, which is better for the long term health of the game. The goal remains to have all four tanks be viable for any encounter, assuming sufficient gear and skill, and any differences in performance on individual encounters to be minor. “Minor” is obviously a subjective term.

Please note that the death knight change will result in a small survivability increase in PvP, which we think is appropriate. We chose it partially with that in mind.

Sacred Shield and Power World: Shield Changes for PvP

0 Posted 4th Feb 2010 08:23 PM by Medievaldragon

A few days ago, Ghostcrawler informed players the new change to resilience and the introduction of a 10% healing reduction debuff. Today, he informs the effectiveness of Power Word: Shield and Sacred Shield have been reduced by 10%. They continue to monitor PvP encounter statistics and will continue making changes accordingly.

Blizzard Quote:
After further observations of the recent changes made to resilience and healing in PvP, we are making an additional change via an in-game fix so that the PvP healing debuff in Arenas, Battlegrounds, and Wintergrasp now also lowers the effectiveness of Power Word: Shield and Sacred Shield by 10%. The majority of other strong shields or damage absorption mechanics are already affected by the healing change, so we feel this new adjustment is an appropriate step in balancing the effects of resilience versus healing.

The ultimate goal is to find a better median between PvP encounters feeling too quick from burst damage, or too long from heals, shields, and absorption effects. We will continue to monitor the way these changes play out and let you know if we feel any further changes are needed. As always, feedback based on your PvP experience with these new changes is welcome.

Saronite Bombs Disabled in Lich King Encounter

9 Posted 4th Feb 2010 07:46 PM by Medievaldragon

Blizzard has temporarily disabled the use of Saronite Bombs in the Frozen Throne after the Ensidia guild used this tactic. The Lich King encounter has a unforeseen bug that caused the ice platform to rebuild itself. As you might remember, the developers spoiled us a few months ago about the Lich King encounter revealing the ice platform cracks and falling to your death would be bad, bad. The encounter is meant to add this level of difficulty, and Ensidia bypassed this.

The use of Saronite Bombs was hotfixed after that, and the Ensidia guild got banned, their Lich King items and their world first achievement were stripped away.

Blizzard Quote:
Daelo: We just made a hotfix that disables the siege damage dealt by Saronite Bombs and the Global Thermal Sapper Charge. The siege damage of the bombs was causing the Frozen Throne platform to rebuild, which greatly decreases the difficulty of the encounter.

We'll reenable the siege damage in a later update when the issue with the Frozen Throne is fixed.

So are you going to ban Ensidia now for 3 days and remove their achievement like you did Exodus when they did Yogg-0? Or are you going to show double standards here. I mean we know they did it and I really doubt they accidentally brought the entire circle back.

Valnoth: It is not our policy to discuss disciplinary action for exploitation. With that said, we take exploits very seriously and will action players that use exploits to overcome an encounter.

We continue to closely monitor all 25 player Lich King attempts and will take action if we deem players blatantly exploiting the encounter.

Some Ensidia guild members claim they didn't know it was an exploit, but that sounds like the alibi used in the Halls of Reflections encounter: "If the ledge is there, and Blizzard didn't fix it in the PTR or patched it in live realms then it's safe to do the ledge trick." -- right? wrong.

In the case of the Halls of Reflection, a GM told me the following:

Blizzard Quote:
Medievaldragon: What is the developer or GM stance on fightning the scourge at the ledge in Halls of Reflections while Arthas walks past players? Is it an exploit, or is it intended / condoned?

Game Master (GM) Response: Greetings! Thank you for taking the time to petition in about this and for being patient during the long wait. I wanted to let you know that if an event in the game is intended to work a certain way and doing something that is obviously not intended would probably not be ok. If it is meant to be done a certain way, for instance running away from Arthas - that would be the way to do it smile

Thanks again for letting us know. =)

Rumor: BlizzCon 2010 Listed by Anaheim Convention Center

1 Posted 3rd Feb 2010 09:27 PM by Medievaldragon

Update 5:30pm EST: I reached Blizzard Entertainment and this is the official response. Our IncGamers main website is echoing the same official response:

Blizzard Quote:
Blizzard Entertainment has not announced any details about the next BlizzCon. We recommend that players refrain from making any BlizzCon-related travel plans at this time.

Update 4:44pm EST: Within a few minutes, the page no longer exists. It has been removed. I took video of my monitor to show you the page, and what happened after I reloaded the page. Will put the video up sometime later.

Original Story 4:22pm EST: The Anaheim Convention Center in California has been the official stage in the past years for the Blizzard Entertainment mega-convention known as Blizzcon. Last year the Anaheim Convention Center welcomed over 25,000 players who traveled from all around the world to meet the Blizzard Entertainment developers, play Starcraft II and Diablo III demos, and to hear what the new World of Warcraft expansion [Cataclysm] was all about.

A few months ago, there was a massive response to the rumor that BlizzCon 2010 would take place at Las Vegas. The Las Vegas Convention Center quickly responded it had been a misunderstanding and the page should never have gone online, as it was a placeholder that was never confirmed or secured by Blizzard Entertainment.

Eldorian (Blizzplanet) has discovered something of interest. The Anaheim Convention Center had not shown any schedules for Blizzcon on its official website up to this point. Now the website currently lists Blizzcon to happen on October 22-23, 2010.

This however, might not be a final date so don't jump on your horses with this to book flight and hotel reservations just yet. We will have to wait for an official response from Blizzard Entertainment. There is a chance this is another placeholder or automatic renewal that shouldn't have appeared online. There's no guarantee that a BlizzCon might be held this year. However, there's still one more Diablo III Class to be unveiled. There's no better place to announce this new class than at BlizzCon or at the Blizzard Worldwide Invitationals. None of these events have been confirmed or announced by Blizzard Entertainment as of the time of this post.

Starcraft II might be in beta by the time BlizzCon takes place, and the showcasing of World of Warcraft: Cataclysm's latest demo is a no brainer. Could there be an announcement of the Next-Gen MMO or the new IP this BlizzCon?

The Lich King 10-man Video by Raiding Rainbows

1 Posted 3rd Feb 2010 07:30 PM by Medievaldragon

The Raiding Rainbows guild from Illidan server wiped on the Lich King 10-man encounter, but offers enough of an insight on what happens in the event to help other guilds prepare.

Phase One
During the first phase, Arthas summons a Shambling Horror (a undead Vrykul), and a new one rises from the ice when the previous one is about to die. Which means the tank or off-tank need to be alert to pick it up as it comes out.

Phase Two
Around 66% health, Arthas will move to the center -- starting phase two -- and cast AOE for a long while. Everyone moved to the east side, and DPS range players continue to damage Arthas throughout this phase. However, while his AOE is active, he is continuously picking on random individual players with a shadowbolt stream. One Raging Spirit rises from the ice to attack the raid team.

When the Raging Spirit reaches 20% health, another Raging Spirit takes its place.

Phase Three
On phase 3, after his aoe rampage, the Lich King goes back to what he does in phase one. However, this time he summons a Val'kyr; and you still need to take care of the Raging Spirits which continue to be summoned after the other one is about to die.

Phase Four
Somewhere around 50% you will see onscreen that the Lich King is casting. The video quality isn't the best, so I wasn't able to read the spell names. It looks like some kind of black hole on the ice. The tank died right after it was cast, so my guess is get the heck out.

Hopefully more videos start to come out to take a closer look at what's going on. So far, so good. Nice event.

Tirion Fordring is the only boss that can be seen from the start of this video. As soon as the event starts the Lich King freezes Tirion into an ice block. So it might be a safe bet to guess that Tirion Fordring will help players around 5-10% health with the Ashbringer.

Patch 3.3.2 First Sindragosa 10-man Kill Video

0 Posted 3rd Feb 2010 10:43 AM by Medievaldragon

The Raiding Rainbow from Illidan server claims the first 10-man kill of Sindragosa since the release of patch 3.3.2. Their strategy was to tank Sindragosa by the middle of the stairs. Whenever she cast the magnetic-pull ability, everyone stopped all hostile attacks to run out of range because Sindragosa casts an AOE right after the magnetic-pull.

All DPS players were alert to attack anyone who got entombed in an ice block to make sure everyone was focused on Sindragosa and to save the life of the one inside the ice block. It's a fun fight.

There's a phase when Sindragosa goes airborne. Two players get marked by Sindragosa. Both players will become entombed in an ice block. The strategy that can be seen in this video is that both players stand next to each other to create a wall. Sindragosa starts to nuke the ground with ice breath. You can see the area she will attack prior to it happening. What the team would do is to run on the opposite side of the ice block wall to avoid damage. If you see the mark on the ground on the left, everyone moves to the right side behind the ice block wall, and viceversa.

By the fourth nuke, everyone should DPS the ice blocks to free the two entombed players. Move to the sides, misdirect and allow the tank to take Sindragosa back to the stairs. Then all melee moves in from each side. Rinse and repeat.

Patch 3.3.2 How Healing debuff affects Warlocks and Shadow Priests

0 Posted 3rd Feb 2010 12:01 AM by Medievaldragon

Some Warlocks and Shadow Priests might be worried about how the 10% healing debuff upon entering an Arena or Battleground might affect their healing leech abilities. Ghostcrawler says this debuff doesn't affect drain-type spells. Only Vampiric Embrace will be affected.

Blizzard Quote:
Drain Life isn't affected. Nor is Fel Armor, Death Coil, Haunt, Devouring Plague or Spirit Bond.

It's a little technical, but things that are actual drains are not affected. Heals that get proc'd by other effects are affected.

Currently the nerf is only 10%, so I don't expect the impact on a lot of these lower healing effects to be a big deal.

Vampiric Embrace will be affected by the nerf.

Unfortunately, there isn't going to be a hard and fast rule that determines what is affected and what is not. It just depends technically on how the spells are created. The tooltip often suggests what is happening behind the scenes, but isn't 100% reliable.

Remember, the magnitude is currently small. We can't imagine too many PvP encounters that are resolved differently based on 10% less healing from VE.

This was a blanket solution, and the problem with blanket solutions is that you have very little room to handle special cases. In this case, we didn't want to wait for the elegant solution that affected say just the true priest, paladin and druid healing spells, because that would have delayed the change possibly until Cataclysm (where I suspect it won't even be needed).

It's a little technical which abilities get hit and which do not. If your ability procs a heal on you, then that is affected (such as VE). If you are doing a straight out drain, like Death Coil, then it will not be affected.

It's just 10% (for now) so I don't think the effect on a lot of these secondary heals will be very noticeable to be honest. Really we were trying to hit the big healer-based heals like Penance, Flash / Holy Light, Lifebloom, etc.

World of Warcraft Auction House and Armory Integration

0 Posted 2nd Feb 2010 07:36 PM by Medievaldragon

In the past years, Blizzard has been implementing paid services such as character name change, server migration, and faction change. And today a new service is in their future plans.

Blizzard has announced they are developing a new WoW Armory feature that will integrate a much robust Auction House. You will be able to access this Auction House anywhere: at home or mobile. From what the brief post says there will be some free features accessible to everyone, and a few premium-only features. Which these are was not specified or when.

Blizzard Quote:
Since the launch of the World of Warcraft Armory, we've been regularly releasing updates and new features designed to help players stay connected to the game even when they're not logged in. Today, we wanted to give you a heads-up about a new service now in development that will let players access the Auction House directly through the Armory website or Armory App for iPhone or iPod touch.

While there are still plenty of details to be worked out, we're designing the service to offer auction functionality similar to what's available in-game. Players have been requesting -- and we've been hoping to implement -- a feature like this for a long time, and we're excited that the Armory and the game have evolved to a point that makes it possible.

This is a fairly complex service to develop, due in large part to its unprecedented integration with the game, so we don't have an exact release date yet. It's important to note here that certain elements of the service will be premium-based, which we'll go into more detail on once the service functionality is finalized. As with all of the services we offer, we plan to integrate the Auction House and Armory in a way that won't disrupt the gameplay experience, and we won't release it until it meets the quality standards that we've set for our other features and services. You may be seeing bits and pieces of the Auction House service pop up in the test builds we use for the public test realms as we go through the process of internal testing. We'll have more info to share with you here and at http://www.WorldofWarcraft.com as we get closer to release.

Patch 3.3.2 Warrior Devastate Buffed

0 Posted 2nd Feb 2010 05:35 PM by Medievaldragon

Ghostcrawler stated some of the changes and thoughts on Prot Warriors and Fury Warriors. Some players raised their voice in concern in the past weeks because of what they considered a a nerf. Apparently the uproar came to be because players were looking at datamined patch notes which of course never have the full changes displayed, giving the impression that Warriors were getting nerfed.

According to Ghostcrawler, the datamined patch notes did not have info about the buffed Devastate from 100% weapon damage to 120% weapon damage in 3.3.2.

Blizzard Quote:
1) Our goal wasn't to make certain all tank dps was identical. Even though it's not in parity, we don't think this is a huge balance problem. The situations where it really would make a difference are pretty rare.

2) However, we none the less buffed warrior dps a little. Given that Fury warriors are close to overpowered in PvE, and Arms warriors and occasionally even Prot warriors are close to overpowered in PvP, we have to be careful about things like this. (You may not care about PvP balance, but a lot of players do.)

3) We don't want to buff warrior AE. We don't want to buff anyone's AE. AE tanking is too easy right now, which then promotes a strategy of just AE'ing everything.

4) That said, Thunderclap and Shockwave are amazing for establishing initial aggro or handling new adds. No they won't do the entire tanking job for you. We also don't see tank threat overall as really a problem in most fights, certainly compared to pre-LK content where it was a major mechanic for many encounters.

5) Heroic Strike is something we've addressed many times. I don't fault you for being grumbly over Heroic Strike, but saying we've never addressed the issue rings a little hollow. On next swing attacks are bad and they are all going away (except for perhaps Cleave, which is situational). That is a very big change though and not something we can just plop in the game without changing e.g. rage generation and dps rotations quite a bit.

Blizzard has surprised players with the release of World of Warcraft Patch 3.3.2 which is now available in Europe and USA servers for download. Simply launch the Launcher.exe file inside your World of Warcraft folder to initiate the automatic download.

Several changes to 5-player dungeons have been made to make dungeons quicker to go through for those who use the new LFG Queue system. This patch is very important to PvP players who have been awaiting the Season 8 who has officially started today. Gear up Rambo-style and get ready. However, keep in mind the resilience changes and the 10% healing debuff. The patch also added various class balance changes. Make sure to check those out in the patch notes so these changes don't take you by surprise.

Frostwing Halls, a chilling place containing the final obstacles between your raid and the Lich King himself, is now open. You can expect to uncover disturbing and horrific phenomena taking place against the Green Dragonflight before finding Syndragosa hovering above you. Should you have what it takes to destroy the Lich King’s most prized frost wyrm, as well as having already conquered the Plaguewerks and Crimson Hall areas of Icecrown Citadel, you’ll have your chance to follow Tirion Fordring to the Frozen Throne, a chilling pedestal atop which the Lich King has reigned unchallenged for years. The time has come, brave adventurers, for him to fall!
