Gamasutra has put up a run down of the biggest MMO trends this year, and one of the more interesting parts of this article is the first section. According to them, the MMORPG genre is sewn up with the existing successful titles like WoW, EverQuest II and LOTRO. Pointing to Conan and WAR, the author claims that both games performances were disappointments to their developers. Conan's makers Funcom have admitted as much, but Mythic are still pretending all is well, even though by their own standards, things aren't going great:

Pre-launch statements had [Mythic's Mark Jacobs] saying that if a company is closing or merging servers within a few months of a game's launch, there are problems. Warhammer has merged several servers in the days since its release.
