Blind

We've seen a few very good machinimas lately, but there's been a lot of buzz on the net about this latest movie to hit our screens, and I wouldn't be doing my job properly if I didn't give 'Blind' a mention.

To my knowledge, no 'successful' WoW movie in the past has ever been made using this method. Most machinimas feature WoW models and the built-in movements provided by Blizzard, such as run, 1-handed attack, swim etc. The creator of Blind, Percula, has used animation instead; This means we see characters and objects from the game doing things we never saw before.

Watching Blind, I spent the first couple if minutes wondering how the hell this guy managed to make it, and the remainder of the time glued to the screen to see how far he was going to take it. The end result - stunned. One word to describe this movie? Awesome.

If you don't watch WoW machinimas, now is the time to break the rule. Take 8 minutes to check this out - I'm certain you won't be disappointed. And here's some good news - this looks like the rogue movie, he's planning to do one for each class.

See Blind after the break, along with a word from the creator.

Earlier this year I got pretty bored and decided to do something creative in my spare time. I've been wanting to do a fight scene for a while and decided to develop a story with World of Warcraft. There are some great machinimas created by fans and at one point I thought about making a machinima as well but animation is what I do and I decided to use my skills in making something.

My thought is to make The Craft of War a series. Each episode would spotlight a different class in combat. To give you a hint of what I'm currently thinking TCoW2 will be titled Mark, Counterspell, or Execute. Blind2 is also a possiblity and there's a comedy I'd like to try as well. Of course this is all dependent upon how Blind is recieved. If people think its crap then I probably won't be making anymore, hehe. If that's the case let's not ever bring this up again smile I've also included the trailer for Blind at the end. I had thought about putting out a trailer a month ago but it seems stupid to have a trailer for something thats only 7-8 minutes long. I thought it turned out cool so I've included it.

All that being said I got some rather bad news a few months ago. The parent company of my game studio has decided lay everyone off. So with this impending layoff my future is unclear and I don't know when or if I'll be able to continue with The Craft of War. Perhaps this video will help me somehow if people like it and pass it around so please forward it to others. smile Although it's not perfect I decided to call it done and put it out there.

About the song Hide & Seek, although I don't speak or understand Japanese I thought the song fitting and would help me tell the story. I don't really have to understand the lyrics of a song to like it. It's more about the music and pacing and hopefully the song isn't about baking cakes when I'm showing fighting. If you're offended by foreign words then don't watch. There are some Spanish, German, and English songs that I'm considering for future episodes and even songs from previous fan videos you may have seen.

I don't know what kind of a reaction I'll be getting but I may not be able to respond to all of the emails. I'll try and answer the most frequently asked questions by updating this summary.

I just Love this, really.

Those of you who know Baron Soosdon’s work may be interested to see his comment about this movie:

“I better comment here too: this is so damn amazing. Why should I even bother with traditional machinima anymore? raspberry

Don’t go that far Baron, but I’d love to see some of this style in your own work ^ ^

And yeah, the music is perfect :D

Wow, very well done. The animations were seamless and everything was very consistent. I half expected there to be a few new things at the start only to have it drop in quality towards the end, but was I wrong!

But forget about those classes, do druids!

Pure awesome man.  I loved all the animations that we haven’t seen in other machinima.  I look forward to your future work.

This was amazing! I would say this was an excellent audition reel for any animation job you want, Percula!

To Baron Soosdon, don’t ever stop! Your machinima’s are amazing too! There is room for both animation and machinma! I can’t even draw a straight line! Even 2D comics are amazing to me!!

All you artists keep doing what you do, however you do it! There will always be a place for you!!

The guy did a great job for a 1 man team. He should have few problems getting a new game studio.

OMFG thank you, Maticus! Absolutely wicked. Percula needs a donations tab and enough material to sell a DVD because I’d be in line. lol

Thanks again. Spreading the word as we speak.

I actually think this is on a par with the in-game cinematics, like the Wrath Gate one :D
