BlizzCon 2005 Reports

Posted 15th May 2005 12:01 PM by Rushster

It’s finally here. The first annual BlizzCon convention. After a long flight we settled in at the hotel next to the convention centre and were then whisked off to The House of Blues at the Disney complex for drinks and food with some members from the Blizzard community and development teams. All yesterday they were frantically setting up and rehearsing this morning’s presentation which kicks off at 10:30AM. The presentation will then be followed by a press Q&A session with senior members of the development team.

After probing a bit last night, it appears that information that has been leaked by print magazines is only a small portion of what’s expected to be revealed this morning so hopefully there will be plenty for us to sink our teeth into. As you’d expect Blizzard were giving nothing away pre-announcement but we did try wink

Last night’s get-together was the first time many of the fan site webmasters met each other so it was great to catch up with people from sites such as WorldofWar.de, WorldofWar.se and inwow.de. I also managed to have a long chat with Thungdot, the European community manager who will be taking us round the show first thing this morning.

To be honest I don’t really know what to expect but there is a real buzz around the hotel and even the magazine press such as the Edge and GamesTM are really hyped about the show. After last night’s get together it was back to the hotel for a quick drink and there’s been talk of a group of UK magazines entering the dance contest later tonight. I’m not sure if they will go through with it though, it may have just been the drink talking. Needless to say they’ve been trying to rope me in but I don’t think my Gnome dancing skills are quite up to it.

The show doors will open in just over an hour so I’m going to head off and get the video camera set up and ready to film the presentations this morning. I expect we’ll have those online for you some time around lunch time depending on how long the developer Q&A goes on for
