BlizzCon: Varian Wrynn & Paid Char Customisation

Posted 12th Oct 2008 02:47 AM by Maticus

In my recent interview with WoW’s Lead Designer Jeffrey Kaplan (video coming soon!), I asked him about Varian Wrynn, Stormwind’s returned King. Is he evil? Will the Alliance be the new bad guys? Will we see the Alliance and Horde at war again?

Kaplan said that although Wrynn might look evil, he’s not, and that his storyline will be heavily expanded upon over the next 3 content patches. He also said that the Horde and Alliance will be warring with each other again; the pact is over!

In another recent press conference, Jay Allen Brack was asked about the Paid Character Customisation that has been found in the game files. At first, he dismissed the question, and would not comment on it, then a few minutes later, he brought up the subject and said that there is going to be paid character customisation. No details yet though.

Great, in other words what they said would be eventually in a content patch for free, is now going to cost money, probably a minimum of 5 dollars to change your face/skin color/etc. yeah, that’s real unexpected *Roll eyes* not like they’re making enough money.

Anyone else hoping it may include a gender change option?

This has been suggested so many times I wouldn’t be suprised. I hope it is as I am really tired or my Blood Elf and really regret rolling male.

Nothing wrong with all of this.  The in-game BARBER SHOP is what we were promised, and is free to use (well, it costs gold.. but doesn’t cost real money).  This allows you to change your hairstyle, hair color, and facial/accessory.  This does NOT allow you to change your face, skin color, or gender.  They are barbers not cosmetic surgeons!

It sounds like this paid character customization will allow you to change your characters gender, skin color, and face.  Essentially it will give you access to all of the options allowed at character creation.  Of course you are stuck with the same race and class.

This means if you don’t like how your character looks, there is a way to change it.  This shouldn’t have any negative effect on the game as your characters skin, face, and even gender have no effect on gameplay whatsoever.
