BlizzCon: Varian Wrynn & Paid Char Customisation

Posted 12th Oct 2008 02:47 AM by Maticus

In my recent interview with WoW’s Lead Designer Jeffrey Kaplan (video coming soon!), I asked him about Varian Wrynn, Stormwind’s returned King. Is he evil? Will the Alliance be the new bad guys? Will we see the Alliance and Horde at war again?

Kaplan said that although Wrynn might look evil, he’s not, and that his storyline will be heavily expanded upon over the next 3 content patches. He also said that the Horde and Alliance will be warring with each other again; the pact is over!

In another recent press conference, Jay Allen Brack was asked about the Paid Character Customisation that has been found in the game files. At first, he dismissed the question, and would not comment on it, then a few minutes later, he brought up the subject and said that there is going to be paid character customisation. No details yet though.

From the instant they started messing around with racial spells and abilities, they should have made available a FREE one-time (with each change, mind you… like the free talent respec when they significantly mess with the talent trees) change-your-race option.

I made a dwarf priest for one reason 3 years ago - fear ward.  Once that was given to all priests (not saying that the change was a bad move on Bliz’ part; probably had to be done to make encounters more manageable), I’d just as soon be human for their racials.

Same thing goes with the latest round of racial attribute changes - bound to upset as many as it pleases.  Just as a general principle, if a customer makes a decision based on all information available at the time and you as a company change the rules, you should freely allow your customers to reevaluate their decision in light of the new rules.
