Probably due to the Direct TV deal, this year Blizzard have prohibited anyone from re-broadcasting more than 5 consecutive minutes of footage from any of the panels. So until we can edit the videos, and write up full articles for you, here are the main points from the WoW panels so far today:
WoW UI:
- Six months into the design process, the UI team were told that player stats should also be included (misc info such as how many deaths, how many mob kills etc)
- The Death Knight character portrait panel started off as a blade, then went through several designs before settling on something very similar to regular class designs.
- At some stage in development, Runic Power was removed for Death Knights, but replaced again later
- Blizzard felt the old pet system was unnecessarily complicated, so have redesigned the whole thing
- The new mount and vanity pet ‘keyring’ has made more space in players’ bags
- The lag bar has been removed, players can tell their latency by the colour of the screen on the options button
Q&A Session:
- There is now a focus target frame
- Along with the dual-spec system Blizzard are looking at, they are also thinking of changing the way we respec, possibly adding a “confirm” button.
- Most mods and addons should be fine after the expansion, Blizzard haven’t made any major changes to the engine
- Blizzard don’t want to add more spaces to the action bars, they would rather look at the class and make changes there (There are already enough options for players)
- Although Blizzard mentioned boss timers and something similar to an item wrack, those additions aren’t ready yet, but will be added later.
- From patch 3.0.2, Hunters’ Auto Shot and casters’ wands will not be interrupted by using other skills, they will continue until cancelled by the player or until the target is dead.
- The threat indicator we see on the beta is the final version, and will be added in patch 3.0.2
