China Uses WoW Map in Military Documentary

Posted 23rd Jan 2008 02:11 PM by Maticus

China Military TV Channel broadcast a documentary last week, about last year’s war exercises. During an illustration featuring maps of operations, an image that was meant to represent Iran, Iraq and Turkey was shown. Anyone who plays WoW would have had a twinge of recognition on seeing the image; It bears a remarkable resemblance to the Arathi Highlands.

On comparing images, there’s no doubt the makers of the program were “inspired” by the WoW map. Hey, there’s over 10 million of us WoW players now, someone was bound to notice.

Most likely? Someone at the channel is a WoW player and spent too much time playing and not enough doing his/her job. So when it became crunchtime and the documentary had to end up being finished, they grabbed the closest pic they could find. Which in this case turned out to be Arathi.

They just figured they could pick up a real map when they got there.  Or push the OnStar button when they got lost.
