Death and Taxes Disband

Posted 16th May 2008 12:42 PM by Maticus

Some sad news for anyone who’s been around since the start of WoW, as this guild name will surely ring a bell; A top US raiding guild, Death and Taxes has disbanded.

There has been no official announcement yet, but the front page of the Death and Taxes website is displaying a banner that reads “Rest in Peace Death and Taxes Beta 2004 - May 2008”, which then goes on to list all their World first and US first kills, the most recent one being Illidan Stormrage almost 1 year ago.

The date of their last “first” perhaps goes a long way in explaining why the guild decided to call it quits. According to a source, D&T were having trouble keeping members after killing Illidan, with nothing new to try until recently when Sunwell came out, but by that time a lot of the damage had been done; A mass recruiting drive to make up the members they had lost resulted in a lower level of raiding quality than they were used to, and they found Sunwell a lot harder than they should have.

This must have been the last nail in the coffin for them. It’s always sad to see things come to an end, but who knows, maybe we’ll see something better rise from the ashes - word is, a lot of them are re-rolling Horde on the Blackrock server.

it is a strange thing, lots and lots of the very raid orientated guilds call it quits atm. on my server aswell, the best horde and the best alliance guild were disbanding this week.

i think it is a circle. people dont want to spend this huge effort on raiding for too long time. so raiding guilds always have to recruit new people. In times like the YEAR between Illidan firstkill and Sunwell opening, more people than usual leave the raiding because they are bored of farming old contend.

so the guild has to recruit more people which leads to a decreasing raiding quality for those who are with the guild for some time and allready fully used to the way the guild does things. On my realm forum you hear alot of complaints from the highend raid guilds that there are no realy usable players around, that you have to teach all recruits how to play and that you have to gear them all up.

The higher the horse and the longer you sat up there, the harder the fall. I expect that this will continue going downhill till Wotlk is released and we will have o see from there how fast blizzard releases new raid dungeons.

all in all, i think it fits into my perception that blizz does not like the hardcore raiders.

It’s not that Blizzard doesn’t like them, it’s just that they are a very small section of the community, and they have to keep the majority happy I guess.

Meh, personally I find it ridiculous that a guild disbanding is "huge news".  I’ve never even heard of these people til now.  Guilds come and go, why don’t we make news posts about every "top" guild across all the servers?

Cause most people don’t care.  Let’s move on to something more important, shall we?
