Does Size Really Matter?

Posted 10th Apr 2008 11:17 PM by Maticus

It looks like it does, when it comes to Taurens and their weapons. No one likes a nerf, but players of Tauren characters just aren’t quietening down about the recent size reduction of their weapons when sheathed.

Nethaera has had to state yet again that the new size is not a bug, and that their are no plans to revert it. And if you’re thinking of spamming the official forums about it until they change it back, forget it, because she means business. Here’s everything she had to say on the matter:

[blue=http://www.wowblues.com/us/tauren-weapons-part-3-5784521763.html]The art department does work very hard to address graphical issues wherever they can, and clipping issues can be reported on the Bug Report Forum the same as any other issue should there be an issue.

There is always a method to the madness even when it may not be something we can fully disclose.

Ultimately, what it really comes down to is, does size really matter?

I can understand your concerns on this. I really can. I could understand the concerns a bit more if we had significantly reduced the size of your weapons as you were holding them though.

I can, of course, forward your concerns on this. But, we don’t have plans to change this back at this point in time. Now, that doesn’t preclude that in some time in the future, we might find a better way of fixing the clipping issue outside of resizing, but for now, it stands as is.

I also need to convey that we need to stick with our convictions sometimes on what we feel is acceptable or not when it comes to these sorts of issues. I don’t mean that in any way to be condescending so please don’t take it that way. But, we have a set of standards our teams strive to achieve and if they are feeling that there is an issue they need to correct, they are going to correct it.

Should things change, should we have an alternate solution, or some other way of finding a happy middle ground on this, we’ll definitely let you know.

The only thing I ask is that people stop creating additional threads and please do not attempt to derail other threads with this issue. I know you’re just trying to reach out and share your feelings and your concerns, but they are known and understood. We just aren’t changing anything back at this point in time.

I would strongly suggest you didn’t spam report as it would only result in your suspension. This change is not a bug. My reporting bugs comment was simply for other graphical errors or bugs that you may find in the game. Of course you already understood that before you posted. wink[/blue]

And this is where the big blue starts to settle for mediocrity on even trivial stuff.  If it is problematic to increase the size of weapons in use, how hard would it be to just shrink the sheathed weapons so that they at least look the same size?  Why didn’t they shrink both in the first place?

They shouldn’t of shrunk the weapons period. There are much worse artistic problems in this game than tauren weapons clipping through anything. No one but that small minority in Blizzard ever thought there was a problem with tauren compared to the problems below.

Tauren shoulders are aligned incorrectly and go into the back of the shoulder and into their horns in the front. Troll females have not blinked once for over 3 years. And for many races when they have robes on you see their feet clipping through the back of the robe or the robe clipping itself when they are running which is very noticeable with my draenei mage.

And lets not forget the hideous deformed thing that is tauren druid cat form.

Where were Blizzards standards also when they released the trash that is the Battle of Mount Hyjal instance which was completely rushed while they worked on BT (even though it was supposed to already be in the game). Course then Blizzard had to make a excuse that they just wanted players to experience the battle although quests and NPC’s say otherwise.
