The City of Magic
A letter from Archivist Josephina to her grace, The Honored High Archivist Veda
Grandmaster of the Stormwind Archives
Most Honored High Archivist,
My lady, I am very happy to send you a small sample of “The History of Dalaran”. This book will cover the history of Dalaran in its entirety. The sample I am sending with this letter is a summary of the city’s history. The intricate details and individuals recorded in the libraries here are far too vast for this book to be completed quickly.
On a personal note, I wanted to once again thank you High Archivist for allowing me to join the Dalaran expedition. I promise to complete our work here as fast but as thoroughly as possible.
I shall make contact again soon.
In Light and Knowledge your servant,
Josephina

Founded during the age of Arathor, Dalaran was a joint human high elf city. When the elves of Quel’Thalas began to lose their war with trolls on their border, Arathor sent envoys to attempt an alliance with the elves. In the end an agreement was reached. The humans would provide military aid and crush the troll empire threatening Quel’Thalas. In exchange the elves would teach humans to wield arcane magic.
Eventually the trolls were defeated and their empire crumbled soon after. As per the agreement elf mages began to teach humans the ways of the arcane. Many young men and women were attracted by the intrigue of magic. Eventually these humans decided returning to Arathor would not be for the best as many humans still feared the influence of magic. Soon after, well to the northeast of Arathor’s capitol Strom, the nation of Dalaran was founded.
As time passed things went fairly well for the new nation. Trade routes were established and the power of the mages kept bandits and other threats at bay. As the cities prosperity grew however, events that had occurred many years prior would herald the first and greatest threat to Dalaran; The Burning Legion.
As more and more magic was used within the city the boundary between dimensions began to weaken. For the first time since The Sundering, Azeroth once again drew the attention of the Eradar Lord Archimonde and his brother Kil’jaeden. As the fighting between demons and men become more common. The wizards of Dalaran, The Kirin Tor, and Silvemoon met to discuss what could be done to stem the Legion attacks. These meetings produced little for the common people of Dalaran at first. However, in secret the most powerful mages formed The Order of Tirisfal. The order would survive to the modern day. Eventually the spread of demons slowed until demonic incursions stopped thanks to the appointed Guardian.
Arathor collapsed and the seven nations were formed. Dalaran would prosper for many years until the modern day and the coming of the Scourge from the north. Today most of the elder members of Dalaran have passed away including the honored Lord Antonidas. Some have betrayed their nation, Arugal and Kel’Thuzad being the two obvious examples in recent years. Many mages have remained loyal though such as Archmage Modera, the Alliance representative in Dalaran as well as Archmage Sunreaver the Blood Elf emissary. Many young mages have arisen in recent years as well; most noticeable of course is Lord Rhonin the current leader of the Kirin Tor and Lady Jaina Proudmoore.
Today the great city of magic floats above the Crystal Song Forest in Northrend leading the fight against the Blue Dragons, perhaps soon though the city may play a part in the Scourge war.
