Extended Maintenance on Tuesday

Posted 13th Oct 2008 08:37 AM by Leviathonlx

As expected Blizzard is taking the realms down for a very long extended maintenance on Tuesday for patch 3.0.2. With this patch will come the new talents, barbershops, Stormwind Harbor and many other things to help prepare for the launch of WotLK come November 13th.

It’s funny that it’s on 4 different major areas (PTR US, PTR EU, WotLK US, WotLK EU) and yet it’s still going to take 12 hours to just transfer (essentially copy) that crap over. I’ve never understood how it could possibly take 8 hours for them to put even a major patch onto the live realms, even if they tested just about everything, and only had a few people working on it.

Of course, I know this post will get flamed because "zomg, you dunno how much they dozorz!!!" but neither do you, they could sit there for 6 of the 8 hours for all you know.

It takes a bit of time to transfer the new data over into the databases of hundreds of servers and considering this patch is massive it will take quite a bit longer. Then after all that they need to playtest the servers to make sure there are no glaring large issues that will cause the realms to crash repeatably.

So yes some of us do have an idea of what they do.
