Lich King: What Have You Been Up To?

Posted 14th Nov 2008 02:44 PM by Maticus

So Wrath of the Lich King has been out for over 24 hours everywhere now; most dedicated players have managed to get a copy of the expansion, made it through the server queues, and get online. But what have YOU been doing?

We discovered from our poll that most people will be getting their main characters to 80 before they try a Death Knight, but anyone hanging around in any of Azeroth’s cities will see quite a few members of this new class hanging around.

I levelled my Warrior in Howling Fjord for a short time, then thought I’d roll a Death Knight and do the starting quests. By the time I got to Stormwind on my fresh level 58 DK, there were plenty of my brethren in town, using the bank and AH, and loads more of them piling through the front gates behind me. After reading what others will be doing, I think I’ll be getting him to level 60 before hitting Outland.

However, my Warrior takes priority. A friend and I will be 2-manning most of the content from here on in. So I’m halfway to level 71 after about 2 hours of play - where are you in the game, what will you be spending your weekend doing, and what are you looking forward to most about all this new content?

Yeah I’m quite lucky in the 2 classes I’m concentrating on right now. My Warrior has Charge and Intercept (I’m always beating others to mobs lol) and my DK has the awesome Death’s Grip, which quite frankly cocks a leg over every other pulling spell out there :D LOVE IT!!

Completely rerolling as a DK.  Powerleveled his mining and is currently up to 323.  Just got out of HFP (which is super fun on a PVP server right now, and by fun I mean everyone thinking they’re a badass because they’re a DK or a level 70 who doesn’t have the xpac yet.)

School work, meetings, and having just gotten a new puppy (also on the 13th!) has taken priority.  I’m level 62 right now, I could very easily be 67.

Edit: by the way Maticus: I ended up going to Outland about halfway through 59.  I had absolutely no problems whatsoever. I left HFP 3/4 of the way through 62.

Well, the gf is coming to my house this weekend, so obviously that’s gotta take priority, haha.  But after she leaves Sunday evening, I plan on playing almost nonstop on my Balnazzar server to try leveling my warrior up.  He’s only lvl 30 right now, so I gots a long way to go before I can experience most of the xpac content.

Just had to try the DK out too, if at least for a few minutes.  I rolled a blood elf DK on my Mannoroth server just to see what it would be like, and I must say, so far, I am very, very impressed.  The laugh is so sinister!  I wouldn’t be surprised if the DK becomes my next character.

Well here’s my strategy: When you finish the starting quests and get to SW/Org you should be around level 58. Go and hand in all the cloth to the cloth rep vendors in all the cities, that gets you around 90k xp I reckon, maybe more (I only did Stormwind, and I got around 18k xp), then do the cauldron quests in WPL. That’s going to get most people past 59. There are loads of quests in WPL that are very easy, especially for a DK :D

Maticus, you are so right. i love the Death grip spell. i shamefully admit to stealing mobs with it.

Now this weekend i will be with the wife and a couple of friends lvling up in Northrend.

Sadly, I’m only going to get to play my DK when my mate isn’t on. I levelled a DK to 80 on the beta, they absolutely rock. I do love my Warrior, but I must admit, I think he’s going to be put on the back burner once my DK hits cap level smile

True, all I ended up doing was cauldrons, watchtower, skeletal fragments, and kill the lich quests, then did my AD turn ins.  1.5 levels easy.

I went straight to Hellfire after washing all the fruit off my armor ;P

The only problem I’ve run into is the amount of other people competing for the same quests. I can really tell that Blizz has upped the spawn rate to help alleviate that by increasing the spawn rate, in some cases _A LOT_.

I grabbed a group of 3 voidwalkers out in the warp fields, and as soon as I killed them, another group spawned right on top of me, and finally stopped spawning after the 4th time. By the end of it I was above 50% health without potting. I’ve seen similar spawning in Zeth’Gor also.

Much easier than leveling my lock out there.
