Every month, millions of online gamers are targeted by criminals with the aim of gaining access to more than just their gaming account details.
According to a report by the BBC, an estimated 100,000 online gaming accounts and IDs are stolen and sold each month. Security experts warn that once someone has access to a gaming account, it is often possible to log onto the owner’s emails and change passwords. From there, access to bank accounts, shopping accounts and other credit services is possible.
The report gives number of tips to keep safe online; Use different passwords and IDs for games and banking facilities, change them monthly, don’t include personal information and don’t share your account details.
Remember to keep you account safe, it’s not just your online characters you risk losing.
