As we are nearing BlizzCon, rumours about an announced expansion are getting hotter and hotter. Blizzard have themselves admitted that an expansion IS in the works, but haven’t said anything about if they will present it at BlizzCon or not. We have the rumours about Northrend being the next area to expand upon (mainly because of the northrend trees and gear model files in the “/expansion02” folder in the game). IGN have apparently received tips from an anonymous “blizz guy” who claims to have inside knowledge about it. They compiled a short list (Please keep in mind that this list is entirely unsubstantiated):
- That expansion pack is called World of Warcraft: Into the Maelstrom
The Maelstrom area of Azeroth will be opened up for play. Will consist of various islands and Undermine will have a new neutral city. The islands will include questing zones, raid dungeons, that city, and a new arena. The level cap is being raised to 80 with the expansion but there will be no new talents. Advancement after level 70 will be through Hero Classes rather than talents. Hero classes will function as subclasses and each existing class will have 3 of these hero classes to choose from. These hero classes will not be limited by talent choices. Players will be able to choose these new subclasses at trainers when it goes live. Currently the Priest and Druid hero classes are complete and the Warrior and Mage are close to completion.
Well, I have been dying to visit Undermine, so I am not complaining, and Hero Classes was originally promised for Vanilla, so that is about time (although, I remember frequent promises we would not have to buy an expansion to experience them!). Arthas seems a bit early to take on, do you think this could be the expansion?
PS. Don’t forget to help us list some questions for Blizzard!
(Thanks nobbie for the heads up)

I think that’s complete BS. However, I could be really wrong.
The main thing is that I don’t believe there will be no talents, but the inevitable heroclasses. Also, saying the Priest class is ready, right, if there is one class Blizzard isn’t interested in, it’s the Priest.
