Play WoW In Your Browser?

As I reported yesterday over on IncGamers, a new technology is being developed that allows players to access games over the internet and stream them, doing away with the requirement to install or patch the title.

The streaming service was first seen at the GDC earlier this year, and works by running games on remote servers which are then played through a browser. People may be forgiven for being slightly sceptical, but a quick look at the video, seen below, should put most minds at rest. The demonstrator, David Perry, is using a data travel distance of 800 miles at the time of this video and no particular 'lag' is noticeable.

Games shown in the demo include World of Warcraft, MarioKart 64, Spore, Star Wars LEGO and EVE Online. Stay tuned for more news about Gaikai as it happens.
