PTR 3.1 Dual Talent Spec Feature

Posted 24th Feb 2009 07:08 PM by Medievaldragon

For those who haven’t had access to the PTR 3.1, we got screenshots and video of the Dual Talent Spec Feature. In order to benefit from this feature, you must go to a class trainer.  The trainer now has a new option below the unlearn talents option.  Select the Dual-spec option. You will be prompted to pay 1000 gold to learn this new feature.

Once done, you will automatically gain a new achievement. Open your Talent Tree window by pressing (N).  Nothing changes within the Talent Tree Window, except now you see a second button tab on the top-right of the window. The first button is your primary talent spec. The button below is your secondary talent spec.  Each has its own set of three talent trees and a glyph window.  Each glyph window is associated with any of the specs. So you can have two sets of glyphs.

Assign points to your talent trees for your primary spec.  Press the second button at the top-right to access the secondary spec window. You need to activate it before you can assign points.  Press the large red button at the top titled: “Activate these talents”. You will see a spellbar casting “Activate Secondary Spec”. Your mana pool will be completely depleted. Now you can set talent points to any of your secondary spec’s three talent trees.

Watch the video below to see all these steps and how it works.

Blizzard wonders why there are gold farmers, its things like this (1000g) that keep them in business WTG Blizzard!

1000g for an 80 really isn’t that hard to get if you actually want it.  I was expecting a price closer to epic flight training but nice to see it’s more moderate.

What people wanted was for it to be usable levelling up so you could say spec healer for an instance then abck to feral soon as your done.

*Ahem* what some people wanted.  What about when you’re level 80? You STILL want to be able to do it.

Ideally they’ll change it so you can get it at a more reasonable level (something like 40? 60?) But the benefit of not having to respec a few times a week is going to actually allow me to make money again.

Some new info: Dual Spec will be available from level 40 and will recuire no reagent and have no cooldown (Not useable in BGs/Arenas)

Blue Post:

Dual specialization isn’t something everyone needs. It’s a perk we’re adding into the game, and it’s initially going to require an investment. If you can’t afford dual specializations for 10 different characters, you might not actually need all 10 of your characters to be able to swap between two specializations on a whim.

With a single 5-second, out of combat cast, players level 40 or higher will instantly be able to swap between two different talent specializations, glyph sets, and action bar set-ups from virtually anywhere in the world.

That kind of convenience and versatility shouldn’t be obtained with absolute triviality.

1000g might not be much for someone young who has can play whenever they want for however long they want, but for people like me and my friends who are all in our 30s and 40s, married, have full time jobs that require much more than 8 hours a day, and maybe have 15 - 30 minutes a day to play (and may have to quit playing at a moments notice), we will never be able to make this kind of gold on our own.
As someone said earlier, prices like this are the reason gold farmers are still in business, and while I have no interest in anything in the game that costs a lot of gold many of my friend have been and they have happily paid for the gold. Maybe if Blizzard made all the features of the game more accessible to people who do have a life and can’t just drop everything to play the game then the gold farmers would no longer have a market.
