Rare Interracial Couples and Hybrids in World of Warcraft

Posted 26th Jan 2009 10:08 AM by Medievaldragon

World of Warcraft is no stranger to interracial marriages or hybrids. There are many examples throughout Azeroth and Outland of couples from different races such as Rhonin and Vereesa at the Violet Citadel in Dalaran.  Turalyon and Alleria Windrunner who bore a child named Arator the Redeemer. Arator may be found at the Honor Hold Inn in Hellfire Peninsula. The love affair of Turalyon and Alleria was told in detail by Christie Golden in World of Warcraft: Beyond the Dark Portal (Pocket Star Books).

Admiral Proudmoore had an affair with a high elf and was father of Finnall Goldensword. Sadly, she hasn’t been added to the MMO yet. She was first introduced in the Alliance & Horde Compendium — A Warcraft RPG source book. Garona was the first hybrid mentioned in Warcraft: Orcs and Humans (1994) and Warcraft: The Last Guardian (Pocket Star Books, 2001). It is finally confirmed that she is half-orc and half-draenei in the Wildstorm DC Comics World of Warcraft # 15.

Lantresor of the Blade (Leader of the Boulderfist) in Nagrand (Outland) was the first confirmed Half-orc, half-draenei.  Rexxar is son of Leoroxx, a Mok’Nathal.  A race of half-orc, half-ogre. Another new, fresh off the oven, hybrid was revealed in the World of Warcraft # 18 comic book ... a quarter-draenei, quarter-orc and half-human named Med’an—son of Garona.  The father hasn’t been revealed, but it sounds like Medivh has some explaining to do. According to the comic book, Garona found out she was pregnant shortly after killing King Llane during the First War.

This name, Med’an, brings up many interesting questions.  A lore fan named Roderich suggested Med’an is a merge of Medivh + Gul’dan. If true, this suggests Medivh is the father of Med’an, and that Garona may have named him partially after someone close like ... her own father? This hasn’t been confirmed, but it’s intriguing nonetheless.

Another interesting marriage of sorts can be found in the River’s Heart (Sholazar Basin). Next to each other stand Tamara Wobblesprocket (Human) and Marvin Wobblesprocket (Gnome) ... speechless ...

Oh no…. That’s just, ewww. Anyway, Garona is half Draenei? When did that happen? In the previous book I read, she talked about orcs only seeing the ‘Human’ half of her… Another Major retcon? :(

Fans who want to see this by themselves can grab World of Warcraft # 15 on sale now at a newsstand or comic book shop near you. Garona appears for the first time in this WoW Comic book issue. On the back of the comic book is a bios section revealing or hinting Garona’s ancestry. If you look at her son, he has two tiny odd tentacles on his chin.

I thought Medivh had some sort of dragon heritage from his mothers side, but I may be mis-remembering stuff from one of the books…

Dunno if anyone else noticed it, but it kind of startled me and made me chuckle the other nite. Apparently there are 2 female watchers at Star’s Rest that seem to delight in making rather suggestive emotes towards each other. Might be an oversight, or something else entirelly.

Dunno why, but watching a couple of the emotes made me think of Bain and Chiad in the wheel of time novels.\

So.. it might be chalked up as another ‘odd couple’.. or they could just be sisters… who knows XD

lol, nice catch on the Wobblesprocket.  That is quite hilarious.  Though it might be one of those RL couples who just happened to play as human and gnome.  I shudder to think that the dev actually imagined human+gnome out of thin air. o.o

@Shadowlore
That’s totally normal.  Straight girls do that… A LOT.

I don’t think it was Medivh who pumped Garona up, rather it was Khadgar, they two had a much intimate relationship in the book The Last Guardian, at least more than Ol’ Med and her (well, we will see…).
