The Complete Death Knight Starting Guide

Posted 27th Jul 2008 05:08 AM by Maticus

The follow-up quest requires you to disguise yourself as the courier, and deliver the note to High General Abbendis at King’s Harbor. When you accept the quest, you will automatically transform into the courier, so mount up and head back to the overlook and down the hill to the harbour. Locate the High General and give her the note.

This rewards you with two more talent points. She requests you take a journal back to Galvar explaining how the Scarlet Crusade is moving to Northrend and renaming themselves the Scarlet Onslaught. Return to Orbaz. He instructs you to return to Archerus to update Darion Mograine, and creates a portal for you. You receive more talent points. Take the portal.

Phase 4

This is now the fourth stage of the Death Knight prequel. Speak to Mograine and receive blue shoulders and more talent points. Mograine sends you back down to Death’s Breach to speak with the Lich King.

You find the Lich King overlooking Havenshire. He gives you a Horn of the Frostbrood, and orders that you slay 200 scarlet soldiers and 15 ballistas. Use the Horn; it summons a huge flying Frostwyrm that you can control. Fly over to New Avalon, where you can see the battle taking place. Use your Frostbrood attack “Frozen Deathbolt” to damage humans and ballistas as you fly over them. This attack uses mana, and you don’t do much damage before you need to top up. Land somewhere relatively quiet and try to snap up a human to eat, using the “Devour Humanoid” skill. This restores mana and HP, but it’s quite tricky to catch a human, and you spend almost as long trying to regain HP and Mana, as you do fighting.

The battle takes around 45 minutes to complete. When you’re done, fly back to the Lich King and hand in. You are rewarded with your last armor piece - a blue helm, and some more talent points of course!

Phase Five

Handing in the Frostbrood quest moves you on to phase five. You are instructed to head through the cave to the north, through the Noxious Glade, and to meet Darion Mograine at Browman Hill for the final battle against the Argent Dawn at Light’s Hope Chapel. There will be a timer at the top of the screen to let you know how long it will be until the battle starts.

Note: If you miss the start, just wait at Browman Hill; You can’t complete it without speaking to Mograine before the battle, and it will restart shortly.

You find Darion Mograine, flanked by the other Death Knights you’ve had dealings with such as Orbaz Bloodbane, Thassarian and Koltira Deathweaver. There are a couple of huge flesh behemoths waiting nearby, and before the battle begins, Mograine summons undead from the ground to join the ranks. Then it’s time to march. Blood rains from the sky and Mograine issues the order to charge.

The next few minutes are chaotic; you see dozens of NPCs mixed with real players battling each other. There are some named NPCs you will recognise from Light’s Hope Chapel who obviously can’t be killed, and a constant score of Scourge vs Defenders is shown at the top of the screen, showing that the defenders are vastly out-numbered. However, after a few minutes Tirion Fordring appears and orders that the leading Death Knights be drawn to Light’s Hope Chapel. Bubbles form around Mograine and his side kicks and they float towards the Chapel. Mograine then calls a halt to the battle, and kneels before Fordring.

A scripted event then takes place; Mograine’s father appears and a scene is replayed from Darion’s younger years when he wanted to join his father in battle against the scourge. Mograine is then outraged when the Lich King shows up and disolves the image. He attacks the Lich King but is easily thrown aside. Arthas then explains that the Death Knights and the attack were just a rouse to get Tirion Fordring to come out of hiding, and that he knew we were all likely to be defeated. He then attacks Tirion and nearly kills him, but Mograine throws Tirion his sword, the corrupted Ashbringer. Once in Tirion’s hands, it becomes cleansed. Tirion wastes no time and jumps the Lich King, who hastily retreats, promising Tirion that the next time they meet things will be different.

Tirion goes to see to Mograine, and they agree to work together to stop the Lich King. You can then speak to Mograine and accept your last “Prequel” quest Item - Your Rune weapon. You can chose a Rune sword with +hit, or a Rune Axe, with +crit. You also learn the skill that returns you to Archerus.

Once you have chosen your weapon, you are asked to return to the Archerus. Morgraine sends you to see the leader of your faction leader, via a portal. Make your way through the jeering crowds and complete the quest. That’s it, you’re done!
