Eh Up Tonnipeards!

Who am I? Best give a quick intro before I launch into my debate. I'm Thog, a senior officer in a semi-social, semi-raiding guild on Wildhammer-EU (All I will say for now is "For Ravenswing and Victory!"). I've played WoW on and off for nearly 4 years (well I can't lie and say a longer time seeing as the 4th anniversary of the game we all know and love is splashed all over) and I'm thoroughly addicted to playing my hunter, slowly levelling him in the wastes of Northrend, trying to decide whether I prefer Grizzly Hills or Zul'Drak. Although those new Death Knights do look tempting...

I know you are all wondering, deep deep down in your souls "What is a Tonnipeard?!?". Well I'm going to make you wait to find out. Maybe one day...

Anyway, I want to ask a question for now, so please respond to this post with your opinions, and I'll comment on the results next time I post.

What sort of guild are you in now? Is it social, semi-raiding, hardcore raiding? If you raid, are there loads of restrictions on what you have to do to raid?

Do you enjoy playing in this sort of guild more than any other type of guild? Are you a hardcore raider and sometimes you really really wish that you could spend all day typing /love to a chicken?

Okay, technically I know that's actually more than one question, but it's my post so meh. (Did anyone see meh is now a word in the Collins English Dictionary?) Anyway, have a think, reply to me and tell me what you think!

I’m in a small guild that I joined for leveling. We only chat and do the occasional instance, not so much now we’re all pretty much 70+. I’m hoping to get Wrath this weekend, so I’m going to try and get some of them into instances again.

I don’t think I’d like to join a big raiding guild, some of them are quite elitist, and I play WoW for fun. Saying that, I do respect that some people take it a lot more seriously.

Come on then, what is Eh Up Tonnipeards?

I am in a small but tightknit guild that is still facing a serious transition period from TBC (where we had almost enough member to do a 25 man) to Wrath (where some people randomly bailed on us for reasons we don’t know and have just around enough people to do a 10 man…maybe).  I’ve kind of been on the outside looking in because a) I don’t talk in vent and b) I don’t have a lot of time to consistently raid.  But they understand, and they know I’m a good player who knows my stuff.

Hopefully we’ll be able to rebuild well.  I haven’t felt this at home in a guild since I transferred servers.

Hay Thog, and welcome to the Forums!

Im a Raid officer in a relaxed raiding guild. Although i often like to say were a playing guild that likes to raid. Although we have a dedicated core of players that are into raiding for the most part (and were quite successful in the 10man environments m- we have ZA down long before we tackled SSC), we have attracted a huge amount of people with odd schedules and limited game time, so often its a scramble to find enough folks for a 25-man. We usually have a great deal of success…it seems most of our raiders are capable but with limited time (I am one such example, having an odd schedule that doesn’t allow me to raid on regularly spaced out evenings during the week).

Our end result was to develop a team of RL’s with different schedules, and have them post raids at times they are available. I usually run a sun-mon schedule, with larger time frames, whereas a few other RL’s run shorter time frames, but 3-4 times during the week spaced out. While this leads to a wacky schedule, it does allow us quite a decent set of raids for the week, and progress (if slow) is there.

Of course, all this is on hold with Wrath. everyone’s leveling up their toons (My Dk is fast becoming my main, very fun class to play), but i’m sure once we all hit 70 the old routine will fall back into play.

I was in what we dubbed a casual progressive raid guild, we took raiding pretty seriously and the consumables but kept it to 3 nights a week or so and had a fredinly jovial attitude. On a highly competitive server with upto a dozen progressive raid guilds on both sides we usually averaged 3rd or 4th Alliance side boss kills.

Now in WOTLK weve decided to be a bit more laid back, a simple casual raiding guild. This means relaxing the rules on consumables slightly, not requiring a certain degree of attendance, using the -1 roll system instead of DKP etc. We intend to focus on 10 man (which weve pretty much cleared already) and do 25 mans when we have the required number around.

I’m in a casual/raiding guild that’s starting 10-mans in Wrath. I used to be a GM/RL, but I kind of retired. We did 40-mans in the old days and 25-mans in BC, up to a decent level on both. Never saw the “latest” instance, but otoh, we still kept a friendly atmosphere, and we have been a guild since before the release in 2005, so I guess that’s a good grade =)

Actually not in a guild right at the moment.. was in one once long ago but that didnt last much…

Still looking for a very easy going guild so maybe i can warm up to group/raid/instance play.. maybe someone will do it one day but it hasnt happenned yet.  Also i refuse to join a inviteSpammer which seems to be all i meet these days.

SO in answer to your question… VERY tight knit guild with a schitzophrenic feel.. with my DK(66) as treasurer, My hunter(70) as head, my assorted alts as cohorts and my pet pig BakonSamich as the mascot.  all very unnoficial you understand!

Not in a guild but currantly looking for a casual/social guild that actually works together to do instances rather than just telling the members to get a pug if they want to do something.

Are you Alliance or Horde?

I’m Horde, I have played Alliance in the past but I’m purely horde now, mainly because I know a lot of people (including my gf and my parents - my mum’s a GM, go figure!) on the horde side and wouldn’t want to play without them.

I do love the Alliance capitals though - Stormwind and Ironforge are so much easier to figure out than Orgrimmar and Undercity!
