Wallwalkers Walk Walls no More

Among all the things you might have missed about Patch 2.4, with its brand new 5-man instance and 25-man raid, all the new cool items, changes to crafting and PvP, there is the issue of size. The over-all size of the game world has increased slightly with a couple of hundred square yards, but the game-space itself has been shrunk significantly. “wallclimbing” has been fixed, and with that, a lot of griefing, but also exploration to it’s core. What used to be this big, adventurous place with places to go almost none have visited before, it’s now a place completely under control.

In the end, it was probably worth it to finally stop BG exploits (some definitely think so), but it is still a sad day for the harmless explorers everywhere in the world (of Warcraft).

The World of Warcraft has just become so very much smaller with the arrival of patch 2.4, even though many people won’t notice or will even think it became bigger with the new content patch, but those that know, know, and those that don’t, don’t. It was fun while it lasted, sad when it ended, and I can only wonder if we will eventually be forgotten, with our exploration videos taking up memory space in the spiderwebbed back end of the figurative warehouse of filefront.com or some other storage website.

A toast to exploiting; may your obituary for v2.4 be better than Cecil Rhodes’s.

“To think of these stars that you see overhead at night, these vast worlds which we can never reach. I would annex the planets if I could; I often think of that. It makes me sad to see them so clear and yet so far.”—Cecil Rhodes

“You can cut our wings but we will always remember what it was like to fly.”

Thread is locked, without a blue response, so this is apparently not something that Blizzard want discussed on their own boards. Still, what do you think? Was this change a blessing or a cruse? Do you have any fond wallwalking memories?

Except that Blizzard never intended people to go to certain areas, and was prone to banning people who did go to those places. Oh, and regularly had warned people not to go there anyway. So now that’s finally done and over with. good riddance.

It sadens me. I was one of the unofficial explorers. I loved it, you know? Sometimes there was just this place that you reaaalllyy wanted to go, and you try to make the jumps to get there for hours, and when you finally did, and you saw the barren wasteland of messed textures…. It was totally worth it!
We were the true explorers league. And though our wings might’ve been cut, perhaps someday we’ll find a new way to explore. ^^

Kojima, that sounds so poetic. I’d like to think so myself. I haven’t been EVERYWHERE, and there are a couple of odd places left that don’t require wallclimbing, but exploration as we knew it is gone, and I think it is a sad day. I will miss IF airport, above/below Stormwind, the waterfalls north of Northshire among many other interesting places…
