What is Taking So Long??

Posted 28th Dec 2007 10:29 PM by Maticus

Ever wondered why Blizzard seem to take an age to implement new content? Why do we have to wait for weeks to see certain issues resolved? Why are the same armor models used for several different items?

Bornakk explained a bit of the creation process earlier, after a frustrated forum member on the US WoW forums complained about the re-use of models and not enough time spent by Blizzard in creating new ones:

I don’t mean to jump on a bandwagon here, but I do think designing new armor models takes a lot more time than you are giving it credit for. Not only does a new design have to be made from scratch with all of the coordinating pieces, but then it has to be made to fit for all of the races that use it. If one class gets a new armor set, then that means all of them do, so the time and resources build up very quickly to accomplish this.

A lot of people don’t understand the idea of a development cycle so I posted information to explain things a bit. Keep in mind that this doesn’t apply to just armor models but everything we implement. We do delay things until we feel they are ready, but in the end, we don’t have an unlimited amount of time to do things - if anybody knows somebody who is selling more time, pst.

I’m not sure why everyone gets so up in arms about a model being recolored or whatever to represent another.

It’s just kids or emo adults that like to complain for complaining sake. They don’t understand what goes into a game like this. They hear about how much money Blizzard makes and think that it means they should be able to make changes without thinking about what really goes into those changes. I don’t know why Blizzard even bothers responding to the complaints.

well like it or not, they have customers, and when those customers have complaints it is better for them to give them an explanation rather than ignore them.

Exactly. Pretty much every time someone complains about Blizzard it’s just “Blizzard rakes in xx million dollars per month and yet (insert petty complaint).

Are they ignoring them? Is this entire thread not based on them giving them an explanation? It’s also up to the customers to understand that this almighty game (no sarcasm intended) takes some work to improve, and that they should be patient. Plus, if they’re complaining about new content being implemented, isn’t it self-contradictory to complain about how long it takes to implement it? Last time I checked the server wasn’t down every time Blizz announces new content.

Forgot to add:

Why is there no interface ability to turn off shoulders, boots, gloves or that little swingy thing on your tabard? You’d think with so many gear model complaints that blizz would just let you turn them off.
