Posted 25th Jun 2009 06:23 PM by Medievaldragon

World of Warcraft players have been watching Windows 7 for a while, and now have the opportunity to upgrade their XP or Vista with this Microsoft limited-time special offer for US residents.  Basically, you can upgrade Windows 7 Home premium for $49 or Windows 7 Professional for $99—effective only until July 11th.  The upgrade will be available at the official Microsoft website, Amazon, Best Buy, Office Depot, OfficeMax, Costco, Staples, Wal-Mart and other retailers.—more on Cnet.

Blizzard Entertainment community managers have previously stated they support any new OS that are on sale, except when they are in beta or RC phase. It is expected that Blizzard will offer Windows 7 support for World of Warcraft after October 11 when the operating system is officially going mainstream.—complete Windows 7 upgrade FAQ

What is the offer?

You can pre-order a Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade for ERP $49 or a Windows 7 Professional Upgrade for ERP $99. The offer is available at participating retailers and through the Microsoft Store. Each participating retailer will tell you how to get your copy when Windows 7 is released. Retailer prices may vary.

Why is Microsoft making this offer?

Many of you have worked hard to help us build Windows 7. We listened to what you wanted and designed the software to fit your requests, and listened to your feedback during testing to make sure we got it right. Words alone didn’t seem enough; we wanted to really show our appreciation. We’re saying thank you by giving you a chance to be among the first to get Windows 7, and at a special price.

How do I pre-order Windows 7?

Visit one of our participating retailers or the Microsoft Store to place your pre-order for the product.

When is the offer available?

The offer begins on June 26, 2009 and will continue while supplies last or until July 11, 2009, whichever comes first.

What is “limited” about this offer?

There are a limited number of copies available. The offer will end when they’re gone, or July 11—whichever comes first.

How will I get the product?

If you pre-order through a retailer they will specify how you can get the software. If you pre-order through the Microsoft Store you will have the option to either download and/or receive a physical copy.

Blizzard Quote:
Gelmkar: Support we can offer for variant operating systems that are not support is very limited, e.g. newer versions of of the platforms we support now (Windows and Mac OS). Windows 7 is still in beta and as such support is very limited, it is not however officially supported by Blizzard at this time.

Its likely that it will be a supported platform once it is officially released by Microsoft.
