World Event Started Tonight

Posted 23rd Oct 2008 03:44 AM by Maticus

The world event that everyone suspected would happen before the launch of Lich King kicked off at midnight tonight on EU servers.

Suspicious looking crates have appeared in Booty Bay, and if you open one, you are infected with the plague! If you don’t find a cure within 10 minutes, you become a zombie with some new spells of your own, and can attack anyone or any NPC. In doing so, you pass along the disease - even to an NPC.

To combat this threat, Argent Dawn healers have appeared in all cities. Approach one with the disease, and you are cured. How long before this spreads all over Azeroth? I’ll let you know in the morning smile

Edit: Watch out for infected Pumpkins in Elwynn Forest!
Edit: After forum readers complained that the disease was too easily dispelled, blue posted Kisirani suspiciously responded:

[BLUE=“http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=11676598984&sid=1”]It certainly does seem containable, doesn’t it?

Seems more ominous than suspicious, since it’s obvious that if people mess with it enough it’ll swarm towns completely. I mean, this is the beginning of the plague, not the end. Nor anywhere near it.

I think WoW needs more of this sort of thing. More surprises.  This is exact sort of thing that will draw me back into playing more often than the once every 2 weeks I currently do.

Why?  Playing once every 2 weeks is Blizzard’s ideal customer.  Pay your $15/month to be a minimal drain on system resources.  You don’t add to queues and wait times, they don’t spend much bandwidth on you.  If they could figure out how to make all their customers more like you, they’d have it made.
