World of Warcraft Patch 3.1.2 - Equipment Manager Video Tutorial
Posted 12th May 2009 03:18 PM by Medievaldragon [Edit this post]

World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King patch 3.1.2 will introduce the Equipment Manager Feature which allows players to switch their gear manually. I put a short video tutorial to demonstrate step-by-step what to do when this patch goes live.

First, the Equipment Manager is disabled by default.  You need to open the Menu window and choose Controls.  Within Controls, at the bottom you will find the Equipment Manager checkbox.  Enable it.  Close the Menu Window.

Open your Character Window and make sure you have all the gear you wish to save.  In my particular case, I have a Holy Paladin with Ulduar and some Tier 6 gear. You will notice above your Gloves slot, there is now a new icon.  That’s the Equipment Manager button.  Click it.  You will notice something familiar with the window that pops up to the right of the button.  It looks exactly like your /macro window.

Since you are already wearing your main spec gear, simply press the SAVE button. Now type the name of your Spec (i.e. Holy Spec).  Select an icon. You can browse a long list of icons like you are used to do in the macro window. The chosen icon will now appear on the main slot panel of the Equipment Manager.

Now locate all the gear you use for your other spec (i.e. Retribution Gear).  Wear it all, including weapons, trinkets, neck, and off-hands, relics/idols, etc. Click the Save button.  Rinse and repeat the previous steps.

In order to change your gear anytime simply click the Equipment Manager button, and select the spec icon to switch seemlessly.  Watch the video for a better visual understanding of how it works. HD video available here.

No prob.  This is a feature meant to come out on patch 3.1, but due to some bugs reported by fans on PTR servers, they had to postpone it because it wouldn’t make it in time for the launch of 3.1 on live servers.

The feature could be confusing at the beginning making you spend some time on general chat asking how to use it.  The reason is that the equipment manager is set to disabled by default.

Once you know how to enable it, it takes some trial and error to figure out how it works. Your first attempt might be to try to drag gear items into the equipment manager slots—which is a mistake. It won’t do anything. So I thought of making this step-by-step video so that our visitors can speed up their learning process ahead before it goes live.
