WotLK Beta Coming Soon?
Posted 3rd Apr 2008 12:19 PM by Maticus [Edit this post]

News is spreading fast across the net that World of Warcraft’s beta site seems to be active again, possibly ready for imminent Wrath of the Lich King testing.

If you go to http://beta.worldofwarcraft.com, rather than being told this page does not exist, you are redirected to http://beta.worldofwarcraft.com/game/character-copy.html
this page kindly informs you that you do not have access to view the content:

It’s been expected that the beta will be announced and launched in June at the WWI in Paris, so we may still have a few more weeks to wait, but who knows, maybe Blizzard will surprise everyone and get it out early.

What’s that? There’s a pig where?

~~~~~~~~~~~UPDATE~~~~~~~~~~~~
The US Test Realm Forum has been taken offline, with a message stating “The forum you’re trying to access is not ready.” This forum is normally left up for a good while after the PTR has come down, so this is a slightly unexpected move. We know patch 2.4.2 will be here soon, but Blizzard only normally clears the PTR forum for a big patch, not a mini one.
Pair this with the beta page changes as seen above, and you’ve possibly got quite an interesting turn of events. Might we see the beta sooner than we all thought?
Of course, this could all be coincidental, but we’re just giving you a heads up smile
As mentioned, I think it is highly likely that the Beta will start at WWI.
Ooh, that update IS interesting…
Blizzard does not use the PTR forum for the beta and alpha they use a entirely different forum with a entirely different link (believe it was forums.beta.worldofwarcraft.com before). Before the beta there would be a private Friends and Family alpha also which likely would not stay private for long just like for TBC for about almost 2 months. I doubt they would announce much of a beta at the WWI as Blizzard hates announcing things like that but it may start a bit after that if the alpha already began by then. It would be more likely to see them announcing a SC 2 beta at the WWI than WotLK though.
Blizzard has been taking the PTR forums offline before bringing up the PTR lately to reduce spam and as they have said there will be a 2.4.2 thats probably whats about to come up.
The best sign to watch for before there is a beta is for the F&F Alpha to begin then you know the beta is soon.
Your reading too much into this.  Blizzard does this on a regular basis whether we take notice or not.  I cannot speculate but I would assume the US Test Realm and it’s forum are undergoing a cleaning/maintenance since no other major content patches will be live on it for quite sometime.  Besides a different format is used Beta not test realms.  Look for 2.4.2 hitting the PTR very soon.
When it comes to Betas I would expect to see Starcraft 2 beta before WOTLK as noteworthy developers have stated that SC2 is alot further along than WOTLK is.
