WoW 3.2 BoP Item Change

Posted 30th Jun 2009 09:56 AM by Maticus

Blizzard has announced a new way for people to trade Bind on Pickup items in patch 3.2. But before you get your hopes up, read on.

This is more of a handy option for raiders than the abolishment of BoP:

Blizzard Quote: (Source)
Players will now be able to trade soulbound items with other raid or group members that were eligible for the loot. This system will work like the Item Buy Back system and allow 2 hours for players to trade an item after it has been looted. Players who choose to enchant or add gems to the item will get one last confirmation before losing the ability to trade the item.

On the face of it I like the idea. I have been in many groups where a body gets looted in a fight (usually by the tank trying to click-switch targets) and then just because the need/greed box is covering the action bars, greed is clicked without looking carefully to see what dropped. It usually ends up with the loot going to an inappropriate member.

Having said that, I can see the opportunity for ransom ninjaing. Whereas before ninjaing BoP kit only really gained the ninja vendor or DE value, now they can ransom the BoPs to those who do need them.

I would like to see some sort of safeguard against such ninjaing but at the moment I cannot think of anything that would be workable except some sort of intervention by the raid/group leader

I like the idea.  Me and my guild mates move as fast as we can, and often enough, the time for examining loot in detail is limited.  This will allow us the chance to sort things out after the fact a lot easier than is currently allowed.  Now as a family and friends small raiding guild we don’t have a lot of issues over letting each other have loot as getting the item into the most appropriate hands is best for all of us.  This will allow it to be more easily done.  I can see how larger guilds will have some difficulty on this with possible arguments about who gets what erupting more frequently, but for a guild like the one I am in, this sounds like an excellent proposal.

Lol “ransom ninjaing?”  How’s that different from “give me 100g or I’ll roll need” which you can technically do right now?  Haha.  The game can’t stop people from being douche bags.  That’s why we need GMs to resolve some interpersonal matters.  The change is excellent in that it frees up the GM resources that would otherwise be spent to resolving loot drama that could otherwise be resolved by players themselves.  That means GM can actually focus on the actual douche bags and not need to spend time on honest mistakes.

I don’t know how and why Blizz started all these belated fix-me-ups recently, but I think it’s great.  Now if only they can get someone who know how to balance classes to work on pvp, it’d be even better.

I like this because it will save GMs trouble too.  I remember downing the vault boss (back when there was one) right before it reset, and as we were looting everyone was kicked except for the ML who was on the corpse.

Instead of having to dial a GM and hope for the best, he would be able to just pass out the items normally if this were to happen.  great!

Ransom ninja’ing wouldn’t happen if Master Loot was enabled.
