WoW Extended Maintenance: Mail Issues

Posted 11th Nov 2008 09:21 PM by Medievaldragon

Update: 7:30pm EST (New York) and the servers are still down for maintenance. Here is the latest in-game update:

Blizzard Quote:
November 11th, 2008 2:20pm PST: All realms are currently offline. We are continuing to investigate the issues affecting players’ ability to access their main in order to resolve the situation. We are actively working to provide a specific ETA and we will provide another update within the next 2 hours. Thank you for your patience

4:20pm EST on US East Coast and servers are still down. If you are wondering why this extended maintenance is happening, the forum representatives have been updating fans every two hours. In short, and in gaming lingo ... the in-game mail is b0rked. Rumors are that the Scourge have sabotaged it. When interviewing the invading villains their response was: “Braaainnnnsss ...”

Blizzard Quote:
Update: We are continuing to address the issues with players being unable to access their in-game mail. The process will run for several more hours, and we will provide another update on when the servers will be playable within the next 2 hours. Thank you for your patience.

Original: We are investigating an issue with the mail system and continuing maintenance on all realms. We currently have no estimate on when realms will be playable. Thank you for your patience.— source

You know, i have been playing WoW for a while now and the quality of the game is slipping, hardcore. They can’t keep the servers up, in game events cancelled b/c of qq’ing (they’ll never convince me otherwise), the “world event” for the launch of wrath was basically just a dresseded up version of what they did for Naxx and now this. 11 million ppl pay $15 a month and they can’t even manage to keep the damned servers up? This is getting ridiculous.

I’m seriously pissed off right now, about 32 hours until WotLK is officially launched and this supposed “AWESOME EVENT” is nothing but Naxx’s launch event with a couple other things happening (Ooh, SW and Org are under attack… In tiny sections.) and this supposed “razing” is nothing but a crapfest. I honestly hope that tomorrow there’s some HUGE crap going on, or I’m going to be pretty annoyed.

Nobody LIKES it when Blizzard screws up their servers, but honestly, how often does this happen?  Also, you should be really happy it happened today and not on Thursday.  Maybe it’s just me, but I was actually expecting a huge screw up today.  Hey, we’ll probably all get a free day of play from this wink.

I’m sure there’s more to come of this world event.  LK doesn’t launch until Thursday.  I’m expecting something big will happen on Wednesday night.

This is the biggest buncha bullplop I’ve ever seen.  First of all, maintenance never ends as soon as they say it will.  They need to just say “Maintenance will continue indefinitely.  In fact, it may never end.  Just get used to it.”  Or, tentatively say it will take a full 24 hrs and if it ends before that, they are overachievers and make themselves look good rather than always looking bad.  They do this every tuesday and I think we should all get a partial refund for the 4 tuesdays out of the month that nobody gets to play.  Also, if the problem is only with the mail system, heck I’ll leave my mailbox alone!! I don’t need to check that right now anyways!!  Grumblegrumble I can’t even get onto worldofwarcraft.com grumble

So were you all missing when maintenance was running smoothly for the past few months before 3.0.x dropped?

So were you all missing at launch when servers were really roller coasters?

Things are down, but they’ll be up again and soon it’ll be all forgotten because you’re busy satisfying your cravings for a WoW fix.

There’s a mail issue.  Mail is a big deal.  AH gold goes through the mail.  Lots of people use their mailbox as their secondary bank.  Heck, I have about 1.5k gold worth of bars and 48 stacks of cloth in my mailbox waiting to send to my death knight.

They can take as much time as they want to fix it.

You are right, this didnt happen for a long time. Now resr\tarts and extended maintenace are the norm. Maybe you dont realize Blizz is pulling in $165,000,000 every MONTH on us but things dont seem to be getting better only worse. The expansion isnt even out yet and already its my worst nightmare. I just wanted to get my stinking cooking and fishing dailies done. I didn’t bitch when the zombies stopped me, I didn’t bitch when i could hardly move in all of Org last night. I havent bitched (much) about outlands or BG’s or instances CONSTANTLY crashing since 3.0. Now however, I’m really pissed.

It wouldn’t be so bad if they would give us a little more info about what’s going on maybe even post something on the community site. The fact that I have to go to an unofficial site to find any form of discussion regarding the issue is extremely frustrating.

I love the ludicrous notion that Blizzard making profit somehow enables them to purchase “special servers” that never ever crash. Computers crash, drives wear out, links drop and resynch, noise and heat and dust are EVERYWHERE ... shit if you want a game that never ever has “downtime” go play Old Maid.

When there were multiple hundred person waiting queues to login, the entire server pool of what? TWENTY realms(?) buckled under the constant strain, when maintenance was 11 hours EVERY WEEK, then THEN there were reasons to complain and mewl about things.

This is a perfect example of complacency and entitlement—people feel they “deserve” things and that Blizzard “owes” them when in fact you pay a flat rate per MONTH, not hour, not day but month of access. Blizzard does a fantastic job in maintaining server up-time and the little bit that they do go offline is simply because of the nature of the database behind it—they could offer you other servers to play on provided they just forced you to use other characters on different realms.

Would that help everyone stop whining, if they could play on other characters during the whopping 8 hours of the 168 hours in a week that the servers are down? Split all the realms into two maintenance groups: group a offline on Monday and group b offline on Tuesday?

Of course not, they’d whine that it’s not the same, that they want their “mains”, blah blah blah.  Luckily, Blizzard allows punks to quit paying and gfto.
