WoW Player Sentenced To Nine Years Over ‘Kidnapping’

You may remember a full year ago when we reported on the case of a couple that met in WoW, began an in-game relationship, then got married in the game. It happens quite often, no biggie usually beyond the normal concerns over real identities and motives, but in this case, the girl was 14 and the guy was 27. What's more, after their in-game romance, he drove across America to meet her and take her away camping, without her parent's knowledge, of course.

Police began a wide-scale search for the girl as the couple consummated their relationship in a Washington camp site, before finally being tracked down. He was arrested and locked up without bail pending the trial and she was given counselling.

News has emerged that on Tuesday, Morgan Douglas Jones, now 28, was sentenced to nine years in jail on a reduced charge of “travel for the purpose of engaging in illicit sexual conduct”. On release from prison, he will be supervised for a further 50 years.

Well, the punishment for yesterday’s prankster was too harsh in my opinion, but this guy deserves what he gets.

I bet as part of that plea deal he had to register as a sex offender.

Good and good.
