WWI Attendees Not Guaranreed Lich King Beta Entry

Posted 6th Jul 2008 02:09 AM by Maticus

Everyone who attended the Worldwide Invitational last weekend received a gift card, allowing them to claim the new non-combat pet, a mini Tyrael. In addition to this, the card also entitles players to enter a beta test for one of Blizzard’s new games. We’ve all assumed the next beta testing would be for Lich King, but French community manager Thyvene has issued a statement saying that it doesn’t guarantee a spot on WoW’s next expansion beta:

[blue=http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread.html?topicId=4754116246&postId=47536687338&sid=2#0]Attendees of the Worldwide Invitational 2008 have received a Beta code to participate in a future phase of Beta testing for Blizzard. Unfortunately, we can not guarantee that the code gives you access to the Beta for Wrath of the Lich King in particular. Therefore, to increase your chances of being selected to participate in the WOTLK’s Beta test, we advise you enter the draw held for this phase of Beta testing, via the account management: http://www.wow-europe.com/account/

This is nothing new. It’s the same disclaimer I got from Blizzcon 2007.

it’s this kind of evasive ‘it all depends’ stuff that gets old with Blizzard. I play WoW… I don’t play SC2. I’m sure some are the opposite. So don’t offer me a chance at SC2 or the SC player an opportunity to play WotLK… give each of us what we want, entry into the beta program for the game we play. Or phrase it as “your choice of one beta” in case someone DOES want to check out the other game.

Oh and make it guaranteed - people showed they cared enough to buy tickets, travel there, find lodging… the least you can do is give us a freaking beta slot.

You bought a ticket to the convention, not a beta key.  They are giving attendees a chance at a beta as a gift to the community.  Did they announce that you would get something specific if you attended? Did they tell you you would get into a beta for coming?  Your logic is like saying that because you bought a christmas tree, people the live there are required to give you a present, it just doesnt work that way.
