View Full Version : Euro beta today or tomorrow ?

Trondheim
27-09-2004, 10:22 AM
Like Blizzard have stated on their homepage, they would send the betamails out a few days before the eurobeta goes live. Euro beta is going live before september is up according to Blizzard.

So this means they should be sending out beta mails today or tomorrow.

....I hope....

Though I really hope so I doubt it as well. Even now they've set a date (well sort of, somewhere in September) they manage to stretch it to the very end of it.

tick, tock, tick, tock. time is running out for them to live up to this one.

Even if I don't get into the beta its better to know I'm not in than keep hoping for weeks.

A word of warning: Save your time and don't doubt god-sent Blizzard company and their actions publicly on the forums. Your "wrong" opinion will be removed anyway.

Repeat after me: I believe in Blizzard, they will release the beta today, tomorrow, a day after tomorrow or this weekend. And if they don't, don't even dare to think they aren't doing everything they can to start it ASAP.

well if they're gonna send out the emails a couple of days before its released as they said, they are cutting it mighty close. its nearly 18:30 now here in the UK, so thats 19:30 in france, so chances are tonight is out of the question, tomorrow is the 28th and if no emails by then you can safely say it has been delayed.

I really doubt the euro team is handiling "everything". It would make more sense to me to have support staff over there (network and customer support) but to still centrally manage everything else over here. They already pay someone in the US to manage beta keys and tester database's, why pay another person to do the same job when the guy that has been doing it can continue to do it.

It's a digital world, they only people they need in Europe are "hands on". Customer Service, and network IT guys. Everything else is redundant and my bet is, they handle it in the US.

Hello and welcome to the European World of Warcraft forums. We have no idea how you got here, but since you’re already there, the least we can do is welcome you.

As you can see, we are getting everything ready for the European Beta Test, which will begin – you probably guessed it – soon. =)

Until then, have a look at our completely empty forums. No, seriously, there is absolutely nothing to see here – except for some threads with intriguing names such as “TEST” or “fgfhajsjd”.

Ok, have a look around, read our informative test-threads (Do not miss our upcoming demonstration of BML!), and enjoy this short opportunity to have a look at what’s going on behind the scenes.

We’ll see you in Azeroth…

They said it again.... Soon..

Being on time isn't really Blizzards cup of tea. Not to mention it is being "handled" by the euro team and we all know how europeans are about cleanliness and timing. Jk to whoever was offended.

The point is that Blizzards track record for released isn't too good. They don't even end things at the times at which they originally claim.(Stress Test exstended)
Oh well, since i'm an american and didn't get into closed, i just want Blizz to come out with the euro so they can start on my precious open beta....

Hi, dont post much on boards - just read. Aussie here, based in Melbourne *waves to everyone*

I was so excited too when I checked the main page today at work. I thought that would have to be beta now since it was down so long, but alas!

They really are running out of time for the " specific date in September when the European World of Warcraft closed beta test will start", especially if they want to make "a couple of days before the Beta launch"

I'd rather they spent time on it though, so when it eventually does arrive, at least it'll work!

Being 1:42am Sept 29th where Im at, that leaves them a very small window. But they are taking their account servers down, which is interesting, they surely must be prepairing for something. Im hoping for a Euro Beta so that more can get in, and no, I never got to enter either. LoL

Im waiting for Open beta myself.

Now this might be a very dumb question, but how would you feel if Euro Closed Beta began, and Open beta for US and Korea began either the same day or within 2 - 3 weeks?

Would you keep playing in in the Closed beta (assuming different servers for Europeans) or join in the US open beta?

If I rebember correctly, the US beta went live two (2) days after the testing of Blizzard downloader started... so it would be the 30th for us, I'm not 100% sure but maybe someone could clear that out? Was it 2 days?

I know, I have nothing to do than wait that beta test and speculate when it will begin.

Yey my first post here :)

Heh, you must be new to Blizzard. They never gave a "deadline" they mentioned an estimate (they usually don't even do that). This is exactly the reason they don't give "deadlines", if they miss it, even by a day, they have to put up with all the whining.

Couple of thoughts/theories on this Euro beta.

#1. The reason that a patch was released last night even though it has far less polish than most of the patches that have occured this beta was to make a cut-off time for a Euro beta launch.

#2. The reason that they haven't said they aren't going to make it is because they are working night and day to try to meet the commitment. They missed the beta launch day for the US by two days as well. And it was a similiar sitituation where they were not quite as far into the development as they had hoped.

So take hope! I would bet that you are now hours away from hearing about the beta emails starting to go out, not days. Good luck to all of you in receiving that coveted email!!

I know for a fact, that they want this Euro thing started as soon as they can. :) From my experiences in the day job trying to coordinate internationally, it's always a struggle. When they are already under the gun here at their day job, it's even harder. Since I know the German community manager personally, I can safely say that no one there wants it out more than he does. :) He's a fairly committed fellow to the cause.

oelph

Does anyone know, or can guess at how many beta invites they plan to send out? I know they were twice oversubscribed compared to the interest they expected in Europe and hence that is why they revisted the market and took notice. Until then Europe was, in their minds, a relatively insignificant market.

I'm just wondering here how many of us will actually get that email.

Just a theory though, I don't know if they are allowed to take that kind of information.

Maybe not, butin reality, one of the main reasons for keeping US / EU / KR seperate, is because the servers you'll be playing on are geographically seperated, and you'll get the best performance playing on the servers that you are designated.

Sure you can play on a US server from Europe, and vice versa.. but in a nicely populated raid, that 500ms ping will cost you ;)

Yeah, but #1 laggy WoW (for now anyway) is better than no WoW and

#2 I play CS on Euro servers all the time and I ping ~100. Should be fine.

frixion
30-09-2004, 11:31 PM
CS hardly has to transfer the same amount of data as a mmorpg.

When I was playing City of Heroes I was averaging 300ms pings, and I thought that was bad.

I think their servers are located in korea.

Actually the data is pretty comprable. In Other MMORPG's your client is updated about the location of everything in the entire zone. In WoW you are only updated about what is in your current "bubble". This has cut down data transfer considerably (and also makes a program like ShowEQ impossible).

I wish I had measured but I would be surprised if WoW transmits more than 4 or 5 Kps, any current testers know?

By comparison CS runs comfortably at 3 or 4. Look at it this way, Diablo 2 runs at about 3 or 4 Kps too, and I could play that on dial-up. Diablo had quite a few mobile objects that you had to be updated about constantly. The fact that Diablo 2 was 2D and WoW is 3D is irrelevant, it does not affect data transfer in any way.

I am just rambling now....must get euro beta acccount!

Officially I aplied once, but all my relatives and friends aplied too, thou they won't need their beta account so badly :)

I always say that those who want it most will do anything to get it. Becouse it's a game of dice this really is the only way to show your devotion to the game, call me a cheater but I really need this spot for my mental health. I have been fanatic 4 years now and I don't have the chance to play after release :(

More excuses, I have 4 moths left and I have a lot of free time to spend ( like 20h/7, I need my beauty sleep afterall ) and I would love to spend it with WoW.

Hate me, Pity Me, Don't really care :( ( NEED THAT MAIL )

why cant you play after release?.......waiting four years for a buggy beta, only to use it as a demo is kinda bad man, i hope you get in tbh, but be careful man if your this desperate without playing, having to give up after a few months while everyone else plays it would be a fate worse :)

You need to play a freaking game in advance to remain mentally healthy? Well, I think it's already too late for you, my friend.
I am sure there is a medical term to describe your present condition, you know. Not to mention an appropriate treatment.
