A sorry tale and a plea to the World of Warcraft community

Hello dear World of Warcraft community. I am posting here today with hope that you can help me with my current situation, but first I might start with little about me.

I am a student of the IT profession. I do not have a girlfriend.

You may think there’s an obvious correlation between these two facts. It was not always so. I had a very intelligent and beautiful girlfriend of more then a year until recently, due to mutual decision, we went our separate ways. The pain of break-up was eased by caring words from my friends such as “how could you let this happen you dope” and “you know you’ll probably never find another like her”

So as unbelievable as it may be, it is possible to both have a girlfriend and be a student of the IT profession. Not only is it possible, but I wish to repeat this feat. Alas my current situation does grieve me, as I do miss the company of one who I can adore and spend my love and affection on. Though consider how selfish would I be to become so close to someone, with the clear knowledge that open beta is just around the corner, and retail shortly after. The only option now left, is for me to find a princess who is both single and plans to be at least slightly involved in World of Warcraft.

It is to you, friendly readers of the community forum, to whom I present my sorry tale and plea. I feel I am never going to find this mythical girl (I have already asked all four girls in my class of 400 people) so hopefully this message may at the very least help to console others who are in a similar situation as my own.

From what I know, WoW can be very addictive to just about anyone.

Don't worry about the whole WoW/girl issue. It will sort itself out when you do play WoW a lot and have a girlfriend at the same time.

I just wanted to post to say you don't need to search Warcraft sites for a girlfriend but instead can bring one to them.

My fiance and I had been dating for a little while before I introduced her to online gaming. Though it was just GTA 2 deathmatch at first, the strategic possibilities of Warcraft intrigued her after I showed her some Tillerman replays. She actually spent time testing the units against each other on test maps, fighting increasing numbers of computers solo, and learning every race before she started owning people online in War 3. While she wasn't too keen on pay per month games, we got in the stress test and played as much as we could as a Tauren Warrior and an Undead Mage.

She hadn't played much games before but she took to them pretty well. It's probably the whole "women are nothing but objects" set of games that drive off women, making for fewer female gamers than there should be. You'd be suprised but most would be just as happy playing GTA3 or Warcraft as any guy would.

So go out in to the world. Flirt. Take chances, make mistakes. Introduce girls to the world of gaming. Good luck :-)

well i can tell a much more sorry story than that...

i'd have to agree that it's easier to bring a woman to the dark side of gaming than it is to find one that is already there.

one thing i've learned is that, often, women just want to spend time with you, even if it's doing something weird and geeky like gaming.

now there is a problem in this, and it can be a dangerous one. sometimes, often in fact, they simply aren't prepared for it. so they, like any one, can become addicted to it and you may find yourself a second tier priority to their gaming time. that can suck.

but i say to just find any woman who can stand you, and who you can stand, and just start from there. if she's interested in you, then she'll be interested in your interests. worse comes to worse, at least find someone who can understand you love for gaming, even if she doesn't want to game.

I dont see online over a game dating as something healthy for someone may age (16) maybe im wrong but it takes out the real life experiance, plus there really is no viable way to prove who you are unless you like use a web cam and those can be decieving too sometimes, thats creepy

I told my girlfriend of 3 years that come WoW release, the only contact she will get from me for a month is hugs during flight time :) .
Beta test isnt too bad because I dont grind my char too much (it will be deleted before I know it) :(

Live with the choices you have made. If you find them not to your liking make different ones if the problem comes around again. As long as you learn and live past your choices only then can you call yourself alive. I have known more people who let little things come in their way from finding happiness. The chime is the same very time.

As one who has lost many of would be relationships to this mind frame all I can say is make the time. If you don't then who will. So what if you don't make it to open beta. It will only be there for a short time then the real deal will come out and it will not have mattered in the long run. But I look at life in this manner.

Girls > Games

A Girl who is in to Games > a Girl

But a Girl is still just a Girl.

And I would rather have one in my life than any game that could be play on a computer. There are just some things a computer can never simulate.

I was introduced to Everquest by my brother 5 years ago. I became a gamer girl almost instantly. A couple of years ago I met the man of my dreams, but I was on an eq break due to one of thier expantions and eq not working on my poor dinky computer anymore.

He bought a new computer. I 'suggest' maybe we could install everquest. He says ok and I ask him what kind of charicter he wants to play. He says "Oh I probably won't even play it" My brother and I both look at each other and laugh.

2 1/2 years later we have gaming-built computers, sitting side by side. We've played many games together and we spend 3/4 of our time together in games. We are looking forward to WoW and bringing ourselves and our small community of gamers (we have a message board and some gamer friends who all keep in touch there as we play other stuff till WoW comes out) to the WoW game.

Anyways, I just wanted to post and say it can happen! Although my brother's been single for about 4 years since he lost his last girlfriend to gaming too much....

Though this should be in off topic it is a problem most True gamers will encounter. How to balance a Girlfriend and your virtual life it is not any easy thing to do. Both require sacrifice of time and investment. Again it is really up to the indivual on what they do. And trying to find that one in a million Female Gamer can be hard.

I have noticed that WoW seems to have a balance in gender player base. I played with and grouped with a lot of real females in ST. I can not remember the last time that happened in EQ, AO, AC or DoAC. Though FF and SWG had a good base of female players.

But trying to find a Gamer Girl and woe her in game is something else and you can do it more power to you.

I totally agree with you Obbity. I didn't like video games before Wow and would always resent the fact that my b/f was constantly playing games.
He introduced me to a few games and I played them but was not overly impressed (and would still get p*ssed of when he would play for hours on end)

Then he introduced me to WoW during the ST and I ended up kicking him off the computer so I could play. I think I am more anxious for WoW to come out then he is.

Anyhow, he introduced me to a few more games such as Savage and DiabloII (have been playing at least 3-4 hours on the weekdays and 8-9 hours on the weekend). Now we are working on WoWIII.

This is just my testimony that you can convert a non-game girl into a gaming addict. :cheesy:

So don't be discourage Shotgunsurgeon, there is a girl out there who you can "assimilate". :lol:

My buddy met his current wife online when he was playing a game (I believe it was Sims Online). She looks pretty good too (she does modeling on the side). They currently play almost everything together online. Some people are so freakin lucky! He's a good guy though, he deserves it.

Anyway, if I were you and wanted to meet someone like who you are looking for, I'd try games like Sims Online etc..

But seriously, guy gamers don't require girl gamers in order for the relationship to work, it's more like a bonus. IMO best women for gamers are low maintenance ones which are sadly minority.
Last woman I dated lived 50km from me and I sacrificed alot of time just to see her at least 4 times a week even though our work schedules were completely different. When I think back now I'm glad she broke up with me because I was too into her to realize that I was the one doing all the work.

Maybe the most enjoyable thread I have read so far in RPGForums. I usually play female chars in RPGs and roleplay them, sometimes when I'm really bored I roleplay a "Gaming Girl" and I have to say it's much more fun.

I GUARANTEE you will look back and think the opposite. That you played TOO much video games and did not go out more. Trust me, Im 22, and Ive never thought once "I wish I played more video games". Not that I played all the time either. Memories you make with video games DONT last, but memories with friends/ex's will last forever, and will bring you more happiness in the future.

Bringing this back on topic...

I'm very lucky to have found a girl who, when we met, had 3 younger brothers and a younger step-brother that were all into PC games. She inevitably got pulled into the original Diablo. Eventually, when we moved in together, I got her thoroughly hooked on Diablo II. Followed that up with Dungeon Siege, which was relatively easy to play and had awesome graphics.

We've been married two years now, and still enjoy playing DII together. I made it into the stress test, and played for about 1/3 of the time logged on the account. (she was easily addicted and booted me off my computer quite quickly)

There is always someone out there who shares your interests. Just gotta start out small and compromise, and eventually you'll find yourselves enjoying each other's interests.

Yea well it means something spiritual to alot of people but to most american children and adults its a holiday were we dress up for original reasons unknown to many, so that we can go door to door and beg for candy or scare smaller kids, at our school we have contests and stuff for like best costume and pumpkin painting and like 2 years ago that girl i was talknig about that was hot and i really liked that was 2 comps away from me, well she dressed up in a devil costume and what you said about "they're hot, remove the wings, horns and change their skin color" reminded me because the costume was red and she had horns and she had painted her face red so it would match the costume, the wings were on the angel costume she wore last year and i have to say she looked extremly hot in both of them, if there is anything else to dont understand feel free to ask because im good at confusing people without knowing it ive been told. I can't believe I read that whole thread. And now I get to the end of it and I can't think of anything constructive to post. Except one of my own observations on girls.

You should probably try this sometime. Strike up a conversation with a girl you don't know sometime. At the bus stop, waiting in line at the movies, wherever. Don't flirt or anything, just start a nice casual conversation. And almost every time, I guarantee, if this girl has a boyfriend she will find one way or another to weave that fact into the conversation.

I hear ya. I have just fallen for the perfect girl for me. I think she may even like me, only problem is, I'm shy as hell in person. Our first few talks went horribly wrong, I thought she was going to ignore me cause she thought I might be an idiot. I got lucky with my first few girlfriends because we were either set up (which I detest by the way) or knew each other since 3rd grade or something and I got approached. This is gonna take some work, cause I know that even if she's interested, she wants to courted; yeah, that type fo girl. Of course, I would be down with this, but like I said, I'm effing shy around any girls I haven't known for a while, and even then there are times.

I know that feeling, Cursive. Reminds me of something that happened to me.

A few years ago there was this girl I was interested in. The two of us would talk and during one of our conversations we got into the subject of age difference. We concluded that I was 6 years older than her and we were both old enough that a 6 year age difference wasn't exactly a problem. She said something along the lines of "Well, I don't think that 6 years is too much", to which I replied "Nah, I don't think so either". I turned and looked her way and thought I saw her turn her head quickly, as if she'd been watching me (to see how I reacted to her statement) but didn't want me to know.

It wasn't until a few hours later when I was on my way home when suddenly - Bam! - it struck me. "Wait a minute! What the hell did she mean by that?" Yep... That sure got me thinking. The way she had emphasized the word "I" for one thing. Unfortunately, I didn't see her again until 2 - 3 weeks later, maybe more. By then she'd met some horny hockeyplayer.

Basically, I had been too shy to tell her how I felt and suddenly it was too late.

Although finding *** men on mmorpg is often just as hard if not harder because they all pretend to be women >.< I can say this because I am guilty of it... although I plan on playing as a Male on WoW. My suggestion is if a "girl" is hitting on you it's probably just as likely (if not more so) that it is a guy as a girl, so unless you like to jump on both sides of the fence be careful who you pick and choose, because you may not end up with what you want.

Ok man,i understand what you are talking,today i decided to be her friend, and let things be(don't force her to break with his bf),but later today i've learned that he might be cheating on her ,taking advantage that she is younger than him and doesn't knows a lot of things about men(she is 17,he is 22 and i'm 20),it seems they are having an open relationship(they only meet at weekends so they can be with their "friends" the rest of the weak),she is doing that and only going out with friends during the weekend,but that thing about open relationship it's a trick some guys use in my city to date with other girls during the week(i know it cause some friends or classmates do it), i might be wrong and he could be a god man(in that case i will let them continue),but if he is cheating on her ,i guess it's war!!!!,anyway i'll do some research about this and see what happens.

Yey I got in the beta yesterday and first player I teamed up was a 18 old hon from sweden :) (Double Lucky \o/)
She has been playing consoles a lot and couple of years EQ and I was quite shocked how she played, I mean I thought girls would mainly like the rpg side and looking the view and sort but this hon was spanking me to continue mob hunting :D
