I don't know what just happend, but I followed the link from this place to the https://signup.worldofwarcraft.com and I got through and made an account. It appears that they have one big universal key that is something like:

BLZRD OPEN BETA LIVE

Or something like that. Anyways, I suggest you all try it. There's no notice of it on the official sites, so go now before they get swamped. I'm just downloading the patch now, anyone have an alternate link?

Wow, yeah, I guess it was premature. I don't know how it happened, but I must have somehow slipped in through some small crack. My friend (who has a stress test account) just tested my login and password and it worked fine.

Exactly the same thing just happened to me. I have created account with pw and am currently downloading the patch. Ill keep you guys posted to let you know if this method actually works to access the game. This is so strange and awesome at the same time...

Ok, I usually try to avoid ranting, but this is unbelievable. Honestly, I'm seriously considering cancelling my preorder and getting my money back. I was concerned during the stress test when the web server kept falling down, but I wrote that off as them not having their production site put together. The wishy washy way that they handle every decision it's like they don't put a minute's thought into what they are doing. Are you honestly telling me that we are a couple weeks away from release and they don't know what their bandwidth capacity is? Granted, the problems (I assume) aren't with the game servers, of course they are planning on putting out multi-megabyte patches. I don't know about you, but I'm not going to be happy waiting for an hour to get a 20 meg patch every time they roll out another 'late' feature.

Really, is it that difficult to manage a beta? Not being in the site management business, my first thought is that I'd have made sign-ups available for a couple weeks, do a lottery to pick the people who will get keys, and then send e-mail with account info in batches to manage server load. Of course, they wanted to make their deal with File Planet so we could deal with another bunch of incompetents. If FP had even a single clue they would partition their bandwidth so that downloads didn't knock their servers offline. After all, FILE planet, don't they do downloads for a living?

And then there is the custom bittorrent client. Completely killed my broadband. If you're going to tweak the client, understand the protocols PLEASE. Cable and DSL rarely have the same UL/DL speed. I know they are aware of this, I've seen people post messages to them. Net effect is that frame ACKs have a hard time getting through. Which means the download sucks and nothing else works. 40kbps is nothing to write home about, my cable can do 300kbps. I don't have a problem doing bittorrent for them, but not if they are going to make such totally stupid changes. I didn't give them permission to monopolize my internet connection.

With the track they are on, I'm getting pretty concerned that while the game might be in good shape for release, their network admins need to go back to school and learn their jobs. I don't want to fight with month after month of network problems. And Blizzard shows no signs of improving.

(BTW, before anyone starts crying that it's only a beta, and they'll have more servers, money, bandwidth after release, you need to wake up. Blizzard has been running their final stress test before release. They need to have all the production equipment in place, it's the only way the stress test data will be of any use. If they can't manage things now, there's no way they're going to be able to handle it once it's available to anyone with $50)

I must admit I am deeply disappointed too. I am gonna give it one more night. I am currently downloading the patch with 10.00 kb/s. If things arent sorted by tomorrow, they really have a problem. I simply cannot believe the excuse of underestimating how many people want to play this game.

I actually dont think i'll be getting wow on release day like i planned to unless they take reagents back out, and fix the priest class.

btw anyone download that crap people were posting all last week in preperation for this? I clicked the torrent that was stickied here and it gave me closed beta 1.1 euro files. running the game caused another download to 1.2, how ever a) it refused to log me in saying my info was invalid (I can currently logon to the message boards, so my account is validated), and the date on the bottem of the screen says october 10. It SHOULD say like nov 6, no?

Looks like im stuck downloading the client again overnight.

edit: For those getting slow transfers atm, that is normal. The torrent pretty much has like, under 50 seeds (maybe more like 10), and THOUSANDS of leeches who are all between like 1 and 15% finished. atm most people are requesing alot and offering little.

Excellent post Wayward Jamie. I've been closely following WoW for the last year or so, unfortunately I didn't get in the CB or the ST, so I've just been lurking on the forums, getting as much information as possible. I love the Warcraft series, I've played them all, from Warcraft:Orcs and Humans to TFT. I am a huge Blizzard supporter, I believe that they put out the best games in the business.

However, I am deeply disappointed in the way they have handled things with WoW, from the FP fiasco, to the thoughtless patches, and the lack of preperation for OB signups. I have the game preordered, but if things aren't cleared up fast, I may cancel it, and wait a while and see how things shake out.

Looks like there is still hope. It just took me 36 minutes to d/l the patch and now it looks like its installing via the Blizzard Updater. My only advice is to follow the link given on the news item on the frontpage of worldofwar.net

Make it to the key page, type in the key and the super secret image, connection refused, connection refused, connection refused, you get the idea. Contact info entered, guess what, connection refused....... And then, just as I'm starting to get my hopes up......

Thats not even an option anymore, signups have been unofficially halted. All we can do now is keep hitting F5 untill they allow access to the signup pages.

HAHAH!! Sorry, sorry. Its just that there is no should when it comes to downloading the client. If you get 200kbps down, you are good, if you get 10, tough!

It took me 28 hours to download, but I hear people say anything from 18-36 hours.

I really don't think EQ2 has enough redeeming qualities to pull any large amount of people away from WoW at this point, even after this kind of fiasco. I'm very disappointed also, but what can you do? I guess I'll just keep trying, and if I get in, I get in. Good luck to everyone who's trying right now as well.

everything i hear about EQ2 seems to indicate that they're releasing it early and admittedly buggy as hell to get a jump on WoW. the games going to be ****ed up for at least 6 months, just like the original EQ was. enough time to see if WoW is worth playing for a long term. if it isn't, it'll be easy to switch to then a decently working EQ2 which i know will suck another 3 years of my life like EQ1.

i quit eq almost 2 years ago, went back to my server board to look up eq2 stuff, and recognized people, and noticed who had and who hadn't changed their avatars since 2003. god, what an addiction. :(

Thank god! :lol: I actually got on to the page where it asked me if I wanted to create an account. I thought it was too good to be true. And, lo and behold, it was. Sent me straight to an error page. It must've took me three minutes to comprehend it; even then, I felt as though something must die. So instead, I broke an entire box of lightbulbs....my therapist tells me it's dangerous though.:) Then, ever persistent, I ran straight back and kept at it.

Mine ruined my internet too for all of yesterday, I used the Blizzard Downloader and it finished sometime last night. It averaged about 60kbps, today I installed it and downloaded the patch before the OB was 'released' and everything went to ****.... Maybe I should just sit at the signin screen and try to guess people's accounts/passwords :idea:

When you reach the final stage of Account Creation, i.e Step 6, there is a nice big COMPLETE button at the bottom. Clicking that will bring you to a non-existant page (some newbie start player guide). Do not worry about it, if you have reached that stage, your account has already been created.

As far as I know, no email is being sent by Blizzard. (But then, I used a FilePlanet key, so I have no idea for people that do not use a FP key to create their accounts.)

If you got onto Step 6 like I said, your account has already been created. All you need is to download the client from any place, Blizzard or whatever.

It even says so right at the top of the page "You have completed the creation of your Beta Account...". Sheeesh. Stop worrying for nothing.

The "Complete" button, like I said, just brings you to a newbie guide that doesn't work at the moment (i.e broken link); it is not of any importance.
