"My copy of the Collector's Edition of World of Warcraft arrived this afternoon, Friday 11/18 - I preordered it through Amazon with overnight shipping. I just got done watching the DVD and looking through the Art book. I really have to give thanks to Blizzard for letting it ship this week, giving us a chance to browse the books & DVD this weekend before retail!

"Overall it's a great set, and watching it has really set the scene to start playing Tuesday - the extra $30 was well worth it, considering the DVD, the audio CD, and large art book...and don't forget the pets for every character =)

"The DVD has a lot of video & commentary on the art direction, storyboards, making of WoW, cinematics, and music. The most interesting on the DVD was the making of the cinematic intro, and the explanation of the sound & music from the Lead Composer, Jason Hayes - you'll be shocked at how much work goes into just the sound & music for the game. The Art book is over 200 pages and includes hundreds of drawings & artwork of all the races, monsters, weapons, armor, & locations

"The audio CD has all the world themes, city themes, ambient music, and intro cues - very nice! The only disappointing part was the cloth map being somewhat small, and the 'signed' game manual is just a special back cover being a photocopy of a page of signatures - not the real thing. Here's a couple photos."

If Blizzard really filed with a street date on the game, those that sold it early are gonna be in deep doodoo. That's why EB, Gamestop, Best Buy and those that know better won't sell it yet. The reason Walmart and other like retailers have it out is because they frequently throw people from oh, say.. the clothing sections who have no idea what they're doing into electronics . That's how you get street date breaks.

Sadly, no one in my area is slipping up and selling them yet. And I've called all of them. :rant:

The thing is - the stores that are shipping early - aren't supposed to. The Street Date's not until the 23rd. further, for those who are wondering - the realms aren't up, you can't even sign up with your account right now. How do I know this? From the half dozen other posts about it that have already been here. Plus - anyone who was in the Open Beta will not need to reinstall their copy of the game *AT ALL*. The client from the Open Beta will work fine. You just need to sign up on the signup site with your CD-KEY you get from the box, and then you are ready. Therefore, anyone with the Open Beta client, can easily discover if it's possible to do such a thing yet - which it just isn't. (Just go to the signup site, and you'll see). It's not rocket science.

IT TOOK THEM 2 1/2 WEEKS, and they kept lying to me when i called to ask, saying stuff like tomorrow, or this friday i promise, and just general bs. i hate ebgames.

but besides that, for those of you who live in the sf bay area, my local milpitas best buy has over 100 copies, and almost nobody has reserved any. when i called to see if they had any, and they did, they let me reserve it for FREE! no kidding. i hope somebody else can get in on this greatness.

I checked my order for CE on EBgames and it indicated a ship of November 22. Since I ordered it with overnight shipping, I will have it when I can first log in to the game. Having the game now is not a big deal to me.

My guess is, Walmart makes up a good portion of actual game sales, simply because everyone goes there. It is convient to go ahead and grab a copy of what you want, if you're already there.
It's similar to their music CD sales. Walmart's main income isn't from them, so they can easily afford to abandon selling them.

So unless a company is just flat out failing, I wouldn't expect them to sue Walmart over a street date hehe.

It would be neat to see the actual sales % Walmart makes up -

Hate to break it to ya, but everyone who was in the Open Beta has the game installed right now, and can play it right away. Most of which have it pre-ordered at this very minute. The only thing that those with it being delivered early have, is more time to fool around with the stuff in the box before the game starts. There's no jealousy there, at least on my part. I've already pre-ordered, will be picking the game up on Tuesday most likely, will enter the CD-Key in and play. The only thing that could possibly cause a hang-up for me is that I'll be having some relatives coming over on Tuesday getting ready for Thanksgiving and all, and as a result, I might not be able to play until after they leave (my sense of hospitality would demand I don't just jump on the game while they are here). Then, I'm also expecting that very, very soon, I have to go for two weeks of testing to get ready for the Gov't to pay for my education so I can get a degree in computer science, which is what I am lacking on my resume. Plus, there's Christmas coming, and New Year's... I could very well not be playing until after January 1st anyway. Who knows? I could very well at least get in and play a couple hours here and there through all of this, I might not (but probably, will at least try). I've been waiting a few years for this game to be released, what's another couple days?

I work at a Wal-Mart in Idaho, we have about 12 copies of the CE and around 150 of the Normal edition and we are not selling them. (Though my boss wanted us too)

The CE comes with the game both on DVD and CD. So 4 CDs and 1 DVD for the game, plus the music CD and video DVD. That's a total of 7 discs in the box.

I really want the CE edition! but I want to make sure I can play on the first day also.. because of this, I hadn't pre-ordered it from amazon (much to my dismay after hearing about amazon's early shipout!)

I called around to a few stores in my area. Most EB games are already SOLD OUT on their CE editions through pre-ordering, and that is why you can no longer choose in store pickup with the CE on ebgames.com Though the pre-order option is still available, u'll have to wait for it to ship.

I thought about risking buying it at fry's or bestbuy the day they open, but i'm scared they'll only have like.. 10 CE and the rest regular.. =\ I live in SF area, but the bestbuy here will not let me reserve it, the bastards. Neither will Fry's. UGH!

You get one CE pet per character on the CE account. They are soulbound (quest reward froma quest that only CE accounts can do), so you cannot trade them to yourself.

You know, sometimes, stores get items shipped to them and have to - by store edict - wait to give you the item you may have pre-ordered until it is available to the whole market, ie, street date. Now, some WalMarts just throw caution to the wind, but they are still breaking in-store rules by doing this. Amazon ships, thinking it'll get to you by the street date, and if it gets there early, good deal. But you shouldn't feel entitled to it before the street date, even if you paid for it.

Hell, I pre-order comics and even though I've gone to my store for a decade, I don't expect them to give me these comics that are essentially mine a few days before they put them on the shelves, just because they have them. I wait for the street date like a sane person.

Hate to break it to ya, but everyone who was in the Open Beta has the game installed right now, and can play it right away.

Having the beta installed wont help me get in faster, as I'll still need my cdkey from the box. All it helps is install time, oh boy, a few minutes. Id rather just install it fresh from the CD's though.

yeah but the advantage of open beta client is you won't have to sit through as much if any patching. i am gonna be pacing the floor waiting for UPS on tuesday myself. i am having so much WoW withdrawl right now :uhhuh:

we got the W3 so i'd hope so but....
i must say the cloth map is a bit small.... twice the size with all the city names would have been nice.

It would be interesting to see the marketing differences between the WCIII CE and the WoW CE ie numbers produced and international distribution. I preordered the WCIII CE because I was worried about not getting one. The prices at release were about the same. I think this WoW CE has some better items.

There was certainly not a shortage of WCIII CEs. I bought two just this past summer over ebay. One was even still sealed. I don't think I paid more than $20 shipped for each of them. So much for being limited.

It does sound like the WoW CE could be much harder to find even now, let alone later.

May just be a few minutes for you, but for me, it's saving me about two and a half to three hours.
