So after waiting for 18 long long months, I am now hours away from experiencing World of Warcraft, but find myself staring at a progress bar whos progress is so slow you cant even notice it change, yeup, its the Final Beta Blizzard Downloader. Started literally the minute it was released last night but I'm still sitting at 63%, ETA 6-8 hours depending on how the speed comes out. Its been good the last few hours, but fell really low during about 1am-5am.

Anyone able to get it any faster? I have a 2mb line but the blizzard downloader just won't seem to send at a steady high speed (and yes I've allowed others to upload from me).

To the rest of you waiting, I wish you luck and hope your come out of this with more of your sanity than I.

See you in Azeroth, eventually!

I'm getting MAX 30kb's on a 1mb line so I guess it's turn off screen and go to the pub time...

You shouldve used the torrent link from http://www.wowtorrents.de.vu/
I got it there within 6 hours, I'm sitting on 2.5Mbit and I wasn't even downloading full speed.
I hear people are downloading from there now full speed so maybe that's even faster for you.

I wouldn't worry too much about how long it's taking at the moment. The account creation pages for the final beta aren't up yet, and I'd be very surprised if they went up this weekend.

You should be in as early as possible as long as your download finishes sometime tomorrow, and considering you're at 64% after less than a day, I'd say you'll have it finished by then. ;)

Mr_Tristen

Fantatic idea.... but where from

Think I might put it up for others to d/l if I can be arsed later, have a few hundred GB of bandwidth thats not used at the moment, can let atleast a few people have it.

Although I'm a closed tester I've downloaded the game and am continueing to upload it through bitorrent. Hope it helps a little, the thing is its no where near my max upload limit though I haven't capped it.

Oh well, every megabyte counts I guess :)

Yeah, and if the routers in sweden are down, only swedes won't be able to visit the website. They don't route all the traffic from france to sweden first just because telia is based there.

The servers are in france, that means that all traffic is being 'spread out' from those servers to different hubs. So no go :)

I have it from a very reliable source (someone at blizzard), that the servers were meant to be up and running this morning, but they have had hardware problems.

They are working on it as we speak and the estimate I was given was that it will be up and running between 19:00 gmt and 'tomorrow morning'. Lets hope for sooner rather than later.

I hope for your sake you're not joking or you will be mobbed. :p

That depends how far you've pushed your sleeping time...and yes you can only do this when you're good at staying awake, but messing up youre sleeping times in the first place usually means that you are :)
Also I never drink caffeine when trying to stay up, it just gives me the shivers and makes my body weird, I usually drink lots of water.

(sorry for this of-topic discussion, I'm just bored ;) )

Well I guess technically you're right, but 'beginning' usually doesn't mean "time before center/middle". Like if you'd be discussing about a jorney you'd say "in the beginning of our trip" and mean the very beginning, not from start to anywhere until the mid-trip. Same goes here.

Don't mind me, just killing time between refreshes :)

Not that I doubt any of what you said, I'd like to know how you came to get that information. Well, in any case if it's indeed true, I guess this will be an allnighter for me. Could really go wash the dishes... >_>

Well if you're not bulls***ting I really hope it doesn't take that long (till tomorrow morning), because I'm probably gonna go to sleep at like 7.00 AM (GMT+2). If it starts then I guess it's gonna be a sleepless night for me or something. Actually not such a bad idea, as I need to get my sleep rhythm right as school starts again next monday.

All I can say is that I got my info from someone who works at blizzard. I promised not to reveal names or job positions.

The info I got was the hardware problem involved something to do with routers not letting people on the outside (us) see the servers, or something to that effect. I am not too technically minded so didn't really pay that much attention to the techie stuff.

The time-frame of somewhere between 7pm and tomorrow morning was just an estimate, and not to be taken as gospel.

I, like everyone else am waiting around with bated breath for the start. I just hope they can get it going asap.

If they dont want their site crapping out 7 times a day they should put a post up.

Im not saying they should announce the exact hour or date of Final beta start but they'd reduce the load by simply saying;

"The final beta will not begin today. There will be no more updates until tommorow"

Technical is not necesarilly hardware, it most likely involves hardware, but will almost certainly involve getting the software right too.
Personally I think they will hold it untill Monday/late Sunday, since they will have the most staff ready at "normal" days/hours. Thousands of people raping the servers will create problems, so better be on high alert when that happens.

OK, this is something I think from the news post:
They say that they are "currently working around the clock to finalize the preparations for the start of the European Final Beta Test". This should mean that they are working at the moment too to bring the servers up and such. Of course we don't know if there is still much testing to do and such, though.

"We ask you to bear with us until the servers are ready to be opened." Should they really say this at this time of day (or night) if they weren't quite sure that they would have the FB up and running within the next few hours? It would make some enthusiastic WoW players quite annoyed if they stayed up all night hoping for the FB to start as they said to "bear with them" without any estimated time.

(@Nightchill) Sorry to go back to the FB question Aguilar. People are telling me they don't want a specific time, they just want to know if it could be tonight or this weekend. Is there a chance?

(+Aguilar) tonight ...it's 00h10 here:)

(+Aguilar) so we are tomorrow..as today arf:)

Thats pretty much all he said...Imho, i dont think Aguilar knows more then we do, and he does not seem way to familiar with English as language either, though, he tries

When asked if Thundgot could join the irc-chat, this reply came from Aguilar;

(00:24:00) (+Aguilar) I've asked Thndgot for it but he's at work and doind heavy stuff right now

So, atm Aguilar is prolly home and have no or little information about whats happening at "the office", while Thundgot is at the office "doing heavy stuff".

I do not know what this meens, but probably they are working hard at the office, and when Aguilar have to leave the chat because he have to go to work, THATS when *I PERSONALLY* think the FB will start.

I dont think they would open the FB without having all of their staff present

When he said "others are waiting too", I got the feeling he's going off to join some other channels. Then again his english isn't exactly top-notch so who knows.

Well, if anyone speaks or understands french, please join: #wow.fr on quakenet, and tell us what the hell Aguilar is saying, cause I dont understand french... Its the only channel he is on atm, and he was on it all the time while he was on #wow too...

Translate this:
(00:59:31) (Aguilar) bon je crois que je suis très doué en irc donc je vais d'abord quitter ce channel et revenir quand j'aurai tout bien fait, a tout ! :)

And your qualified to be our translator ;)

Here's what a translator made of it, not very informative...

"good I believe that I am very gifted in IRC thus I d'abord will leave this channel and to return when j'aurai any made good, has all!"

A rough translation:

Good, i believe that i'm very gifted in Irc, but im gonna leave this channel 1st and return when i have good news.

My French sucks though :(

I think it's something like

"It's good to know I can handle IRC well, but i have to leave this channel, and I'll return when good progress has been made, see you later"

I'm really getting disappointed by this extended wait.

But as somebody with experience from working in France wrote earlier:
"For me a couple of days mean 2-3 days. For a French, today means about 2-3 weeks from now."

Sigh...

(01:27:37) (Wh1tedr4g0N^) what I, as the rest, or atleast half the world is wondering, is if the Final Beta will be up in sometime soon, a couple of hours or minutes that is..But, what im asking you, is simply if you know anything about it

I havn't heard anything more from him, still waiting to see if he ever responds...

Saturday, 8th of January 2005, Paris, France:
Following the rapid sell-out of the European pre-order campaign and the successful start of the localised Closed Beta Test, we are happy to announce that the first phase of the European Final Beta Test of World of Warcraft starts now, in English, French and German. The first phase of the Final Beta Test will allow access to a select group of players: those who attained a beta key through the official Blizzard pre-order campaign, and current Closed Beta testers.

The first phase of the Final Beta Test will also allow the testing of the World of Warcraft localized server infrastructure under heavy loads. As soon as system stability allows, the second phase of the testing process will begin and more players will be added into the Final Beta Test. We will make every effort to accommodate all requests for beta accounts but there is always the possibility that we will be unable to meet demand, and we therefore strongly encourage motivated players to register an account as quickly as possible once the second phase of the Final Beta Test begins. More details regarding the second phase will be given shortly on www.wow-europe.com.

See you in Azeroth,

Blizzard Entertainment.
