Since I'm bored of my rogue (L26), I've decided to reroll a hunter. Again. I have everything planned out already, except for the profession.
Eng.
-Guns n'ammo.
-Bombs.
-The other spiffy toys. Jumper cables, sapper charges, pets, dragon gun, discombobulater, target dummy...
-I can sell spare ore =P
Alch.
-Health n'mana pots.
-Swiftness.
-Mongoose.
-Free Action.
-Various situational potions.
-One-use items.
Which would you take? I've tried them both out, but still can't decide which would benefit a hunter more.

I'd go Engineering. Actually I am going Engineering personally when I get on. You can always buy potions or get them from guildmates, but most of the Engineering devices require you to be skilled in Engineering to use.
I think both have their uses, and doing Alchemy with another character is one of the things I look foward to doing, so while you can't go wrong either way, I think Engineering is best for Hunters.

I'm guessing you use guns, then?
So far, I'm leaning towards bows. I love fast attack speeds. There are like...two guns with an attack speed < 2. Engy does seem like the better choice, though...I only need the potions I mentioned, and that shouldn't be too much for the guild alchemist.

Engineering 300 is good regardless of bows/guns. The best projectiles I've seen to date are Thorium Shells (crafted with engineering) and Thorium Tipped Arrows (transmuted from throrium shells via quest guy in IF)
On a side note, I used to think the alchemy potions were really cool but when I tried it out, I realized how frustrating it was to die. You lose everything! I don't care if you think you're the best hunter/player in the world...if you're on a pvp server, you're going to die. =*(

What do you mean, loose everything? Why would you loose all your potions from dying?

You lose all buffs when you die. If you just drank a potion of Mongoose and a defence potion you'll have to drink them again when you res.

anything you can do as an alch someone else can do for you.
some eng things you can use yourself and not get off anyone else, so i'd go that

But if everyone just relies on another alchemist, then eventally, there'll be no alchemists left..... not trying to be a bugger (I wouldnt choose alchemy either).

As an engineer, I'd say the only thing worth making is ammunition. If you're not using a gun don't bother with it. And if you are using a gun, note that thorium shells are a blue schematic so you'll probably never be able to make them.

yea, like that diving helmet or something which allows you to be underwater for a long time.
