Maybe massive patch downloads mucked some stuff up who knows. I was trying to download the patch the traditional way with no luck. Got it off fileshack in less than 2 minutes. LOL

Anyway, who knows. It sucks I was in game and got the boot in a bad spot. I hope I'm still alive when I can get back in.

The ironic thing is that 30 minutes after the server went down, my friend was still in his Battleground game.

My PvE server dropped me, and his was still working so I thought it was just Suramar.

Nope, he's still playing.

After he started his BG instance thing, I noticed CONSIDERABLE lag on the network at work. It's super fast, but whatever he was doing slowed me to a crawl.

My level 26 NE Druid is going to be somewhere horrible when it starts up again, no doubt all alone too, I'm in Australia and the higher levels I was with are from America, they'll be happily sleeping away while I continually die to try and get myself out of there! hahaha Gonna be a fun ride that's for sure.

Hopefully it will be working again soon, bad bad addiction to have. hehe

Nicely done, I must say. After only 6 hours of bittorrent download (science these days! Thank GOD for bittorrent versus, say, releasing a finished game), I can no longer connect to Silverhand. On the plus side, I can neither check to see if silverhand is actually hammered again, or if the patch has destroyed my install given the fact that I also can't see the bliz site.

'Course, something tells me that my credit card will be hit without issue.

I'm running a really cutting-edge winXP box over dialup. Anybody else able to connect to SH post-patch? Sorry, shouldn't complain I know, as this has never happened before. Um...in the last 2 weeks.

hi. long time member, 1st time poster.

i certainly hope someone at Blizzard scans these forums, cause i can't reach any "offical" sites. Blizzard, WoW, etc. and whatever source this sites uses for it's realm status is cut off as well. if there is any official word about the patch messing things up, i can't access anyplace to read it.

guess i'll go browse the item database and make a wish list...

I don't think the patch itself mucked things up because I got the patch and played for about an hour before the crash. I think maybe it's just thousands of people all trying to download a 49 meg patch at one time maybe caused some problems. Who knows? The internet tends to burp at times. This is just one of them I guess.

HAHA I was thinking along the same lines last weekend when I was actually playing during the day and I was like, "Hey this looks cool during the day." So I thought it would be nice to let people pick their time zone so us night players could see day light at night hours. :uhhuh:

nothing makes me feel inferior with my DSL than getting 2.00 kbs/sec (or less) with these patches. started it up before i went to work, expecting to help everybody out as a "peer" while i was gone. based on the volume uploaded, however, whatever crash occured wasn't too long after i finished. (unless i'm once again confused by the technology)

well, that's the last time for the official way for me...

akutai

I think maybe Blizzard got completely lagged out and their servers blew da f*c* up. I'd been on for about 8 hours playing with the new patch, the entire time there were huge lines waiting to get in on some BG action (nothing wrong with that cuz it's sweet), but to get an image of how bad the lag was, I was getting 6x the latency as normal while outside the entrance. I think they just couldn't handle it all, and there's NOOOO way possible they'd expect it to be that popular...yeah right...gratz Blizzard!

Dublo

Actually, the server crashed due to everyone logging in simultaneously to see the new icon for Mage's Frost Armor (or whatever Mage spell it was).

gyro was the engineer guy, gizmoduck (phanton crackshell) was the robot duck. Man, i used to love that show when i was a kid, i watched it relegiously. Anyway, i got home from an exam thinking i'd kill a bit of time playing the battlegrounds. Dl'd the patch, hopped over to warsong gultch. Got in line, but it said there was an hour, so i thought i might as well head down to un'goro and finish up some quests. I was halfway to tanaris on the wind rider when the world ended lol

I have not had the game that long, but frankly like the other poster said. There is no reason they should have all the servers connected. They are getting more than enough money to have their patch/game/website servers on separate dedicated connections. Frankly the servers should probably all be on different nodes/providers for just this type of instance. Short and long of it, this should not have happened. I am internet tech for competitive LEC, and man do I have so many ways to make this not happen twice. My biggest fear is something serious has happened like hacking or DOS attack. I am sure we will find out tomorrow. Anyone from Blizzard reading this, take heed.

I did just patch the game after downloading from fileplanet. Bit t is just stupid. I played for about 30 minutes getting me some tusks in Booty B when the server crashed. I am sure I will be dead when I come back. SO answer is, I think this was random. I think they either reached their maximum bandwidth or their peering point with a major provider is now maxed. A 'game' is something you play on a board with friends drinking coffee. This stopped being a game somewhere between it becomming online-only and where we started to pay a subscription fee. This is more like any other entertainment service. As such, downtime is NOT very well tollerated.

Here's my $.02:

Guild Wars and the rest are MMORPG's. WoW is not.

Blizzard has created a Leviathan here, a fusion of a MMORPG and a RTS. Life begins at lvl 60, and as of the last patch the thing is finally actually getting to where you can really play. Everything up to BattleGrounds is basically training. This IS the World of Warcraft. This is about playing Warcraft III basically as a hero.

I don't for a minute belittle the genius game designers that exist within Blizzard. What I criticize is their gross incompetence at hiring admins/techs. These aren't 'good' mistakes, I've seen nothing but 'bad' mistakes here. Time after time, they screw up in a way that should have been prevented. Its sad that these geniuses have to watch their world be screwed by technical morons.

I dont know about you all, but my total estimated time played (on several characters) is about 35-37 days...x24hours= O_o around 860+hours. Now thats a lot of time. Kinda sick if u really think about it. How many girls could I have been bangin instead of hitting on naked night elfs dancing on the bridge in IF?

My god, I almost wet myself when I read that!

haha! I met my husband on FFXI. We recently gave up that cruddy game and moved to WoW, we both fell so head over heels with the game that we bought a second PC just so we could play together.

Here's my $.02:

Guild Wars and the rest are MMORPG's. WoW is not. Guild Wars is not an MMORPG. It is just like any other Diabloesque RPG, except its lobbies are 3D.

WOW (HA! Pun unintended)

In the time that it took me to join up to these forums, another 2 pages worth of posts were made! Granted, it took me a while to come up with a username that WASNT taken, so finally came up with the one i've got now, heh.

Btw, has anyone here actually bought Guildwars and played it? Is it any good?

Oh and its still early in the evening for Australia! Still time woohoo. :bigclap:

Yeah a friend of mine plays it...it's really wierd. Nothing like WoW cuz once you leave town you don't see ANYONE, eliminates the excitement of PvP completely...lame in my opinion. (EDIT: Explain...you leave town, and it becomes what you'd call in WoW as an instance, the entire world is designated to only you and your party...no chance of contact at all)

Yes, the login server and the play servers are up... but what is funny is that each server is beng listed 2-8 times.

And my characters are not there.

Woah... I had a quick feed (read: 10mins) and this thread jumped 10 pages.

Are you sure WOW isnt down because worldofwar.net admin are DDOS'ing it, just to get more forum members? :P

I'm off to try the game... Give a hoi if you see me, "crafted" is the nick. Buggered if I know what server, I cant remember those crazy RPG names with fifteen syllables, all of which are made by 12 constanants seperated by a single vowel.

Hey guys,
Took a break from WoW for almost 2 months, finally gave in to my temptation and reinstalled it. Only to find nothing works! Then stumbling onto this thread I realise there are others out there that can't get in either. Whew! Makes me feel better actually.

And a comment about GuildWars, I played it for about a week ad got really bored of it, does not even come close to WoW. It is very instance based and the world is not persistant. It feels like your playing diablo on a private server pretty much.

Assuming (gasp) the stupid servers *don't* stay up, if you *do* get in, get to a city/inn ASAP and kick around managing inventory or whatever. If Blizzard gives us a full rest bonus cool... but if they don't, and things go down again, better to get your zzz's.

For anyone behind a router, I suggest that you forward ports 6112, 3724, and 6881-6999. It should help tremendously.
