View Full Version : World event idea: Ceasefight Agreement

I have had this idea since long, just to elaborate it sufficiently to make it viable. The concept is simple: on a certain day (for 24 hours) the two warring factions will subscribe a temporary "ceasefight agreement", that completely disables PvP mod for that time. It would also enable you to enter cities generally hostile towards you, and interact normally with NPCs. A limited set of interactions would be also possible towards opposing faction players. The proposed event would have negative sides as well: you cannot gain honour points that day, and the Battlegrounds are closed. You will receive warnning from various NPCs yelling around, before 1 hour of ending, that the agreement will end soon. To avoid exploiting the ending, you will get teleported back to your home town 30seconds before the end, if you are found on enemy (not contested) territory at that moment. I will summarize the proposed changings once again below:

Interaction toward NPCs:
(1) You will have PvP mod temporarily disabled. This means you cannot go PvP, even if typing /PvP!!
(2) The language translator is off. This means you can temporarily "understand" orkish with alliance chars, and also common with Hordies. This extends to both playars and NPCs
(3) The opposing faction NPCs will behave "almost normal" towards you. This means you can buy and sell at them, and have conversations. You can enter all opposing faction cities unpunished, and the guards will help you, as if you were a member of that faction.
(4) You can use the opposing faction AHs!! Golden day for greedy and merchanise-focused personalities!
(5) You cannot take quests from opposing-faction-NPCs. this is in order, to avoid double-questing. (the same quests on the different side)
(6) You cannot set your heartstone to opposing cities, to avoid abusive behaviour, when the day ends.

Quests and world regions:
(1) You cannot enter battlegrounds, though you can still gain the quests into there. The quest log will simply display a Halted tag (or similar) to those quests.
(2) You cannot complete those quests, like the "Silverwing outpost" line in Ashenvale, or "The hints of a new plague?" line in Arathi/Hillsbrad, that involve killing NPCs normally unkillable for the opposing faction. The quest will be given to you, though, but, as you cannot attack the respective NPCs for that 24hours, they will display the (Halted) tag as well.
(3) Though you can enter "enemy" cities at will, you will be kicked out in the end, whenever you are found in a region not contested. You will simply be portaled out a few seonds before PvP is turned on again. This serves as a method to avoid easy leader-killings.

Interaction with other players:
(1)You can have a wide array of interactions with Opposing-faction players, like normal speech, observe, and trade.
(2) You cannot attack the opposing players, only duel them, if you wish. You can cast buffs on opposing players, as if they were friendly.
(3) You can invite opposing players to your group/raid!!! This makes a nice day to vanquish Onyxia, Nefarion, Hakkar, and Ragnaros though joint Paladin-Shaman combos. You can also learn a bit about the strength and weaknesses of the classes unavailable to you, as well (to end continuous Pala-Shammy "forum-wars")
(4) You cannot put opposing players onto your "friends" list, neither can you invite them into your guild. for that 1 day, it would really not count.

If you like this idea (and even if you don't),please, feel free to add your comments, and even extensions/modifications to it. I would be also glad, if someone, who really likes it, would put it on the official WOW forums (as my account is not active this moment, so I cannot do it)!! Thanks for reading this!

Nope...Not for me, and I'd oppose it...heh

I don't want alli learning more about Org and not being fired upon....

I like PvP...no reason for a ceasefire...Roll PvE... :)

Oh, hell, this would be awesome, if only as a way to do some economy-balancing. The screams of the stupider PvPers would add some small relish to it, before they realized this was their chance to determine enemy strengths and weaknesses up close.

Seriously, Meson, you can't stop them from taking a look at org anyway. All they have to do is start a horde char on some other server and take a short walk to inspect the defenses. I know I did!

Well...you don't have to give them the keys...

If there was a ceasefire, 500 of one faction could move inside a city and wait until it was over...and kill a leader...too easy...

Ain't gonna happen.

Well, if you would read it carefully, you would easily find out that I have thought about it, and found an easy solution:
You will get warned shortly before the agreement ends, and you will be teleported out automathically , and immediately from all regions, that belong to the opposing faction (both cities and regions), lets say: 30 seconds before the event actually ends..The destination is simple: your home town (as you cannot set your heartstone to opposing cities) You should be a world-leading athlete to run back in those few seconds through whole landmasses to actually "swarm over". Please, read it carefully before commenting!!!

Well, if you would read it carefully,

You won't be swayed by anything I say, and I am not likely to be swayed by anything you say...so.....just record me as opposing your idea...

If you don't want pvp, don't roll it. I see no benefit to a cease-fire.

Hah. I love it.
"But this could happen!"
"If you'd read what I posted, I'd already guaranteed against it."
"...well, I don't like it anyway. So nyah."

I could also imagine, to add another event, paralelled to the previous one, that would be Full-scale war . It would also last for 24 hours, and all would be about PvP: It would turn the whole world into a Battleground !!! While you could still continue on your previous quests, you could also obtain special, 1-day only quests just for this event: all about the defence or conquer of special places/locations. I would need definitely more time to elaborate this idea, but, perhaps the PvP fans could help (you could have guessed, I prefer roleplaying to PvP). Anyway, some ideas/details come below:

World event: Full-scale-war!

Player-player interactions :
(1) PvP mod temporarily cannot be turned off . That means, that even if you are inside your home city, you will be continously flagged for PvP for 24 hours.
(2) The objective of the war is to capture enemy towns, and defend those, what you have captured - therefore you get numerous contribution points for participating any raid capturing a hostile city - and a much higher bonus if you can take a capital. Also, if your faction can manage total domination (all the hostile capitals under your control, while the enemy controls none of yours) - all of your faction helping will get innumerable points and special honour rewards!!!

World/enviroment :
(1) There are new objects in every town, usually around taverns: the townstone
(2) You can capture enemy towns! to do this, eliminate all hostile (non-civilian) NPCs, then click on the Townstone , uninterrupted for a certain time (let's say, 60 secs): after it is done, your faction's NPCs (guards) will spawn in the city, helping it to defend!!!
(3) you needn't kill civilian NPCs. They will become neutral to you if you have captured the town, thus lending supplies - but NOT giving any quests normally not available to you
(4) Even though you will need to vanquish flight masters in order to gain control of the town - they won't respawn - nor will they be subtituted by one of your own faction: this makes conquest harder as you proceed -to give a chance for your enemies to retaliate.
(5) Capturing a town will interrupt all flight-paths going there, or leading outside: this produces hazardous situations - imagine Teldrassil being cut off after Auberdine falls. All this idea does is encouraging STRATEGIC attacks and defences.

Please, feel free to expand this idea as well - and add your comments - well, only after a careful reading!

Fantabulous idea :happy14: . As long as it was onlyon PvP realms. And if it was on normal realms, you need to be made a part of it, like you can visit a person in all the inns called, Recruitment Officer or something, and sign up. That way you dont have to.

Oh dear. As if 5:1 population imbalances weren't enough...

Arinnaya
01-12-2005, 03:42 PM
After the Burning Crusede, it will become smoother, if they don't spoil it with a too attractive Alliance race... So you won't have to worry about imbalances that much.
Also, there is another way to balance the sides, fully server-dependently: the NPCs' numbers will be adjusted to the (reversed) population-rate: for example, on a 1to5 case, the horde will wet 5x more NPCs to help them out!!! This could be forther amended by special 'buffs' casted on players by faction leader NPCs: the weaker the faction (in numbers), the stronger the buff!!

What is the major earth shattering event that causes the cease fire? With all the deep rooted hatred and wars that have taken place between Horde and Alliance over the centuries I cannot see how this could be encompassed into the history of the game without destroying a storyline that has taken over 10 years to build. I hope this never happens as it will destroy the mystery of future raids on capitals. (Plus we don't want any allies knowing how undefended Undercity is! Opps!) Patch 1.9!!!!! Put an AH in UC and watch the horde come flowing back to the beautifully constructed Undercity.... But then maybe not.... I do enjoy the peace and tranquility of Undercity.....

A big NO vote from this side but nice idea anyway! If you can find a way to write this event into the history I would love to here it. Maybe like WW1? The ceasefire where everyon got out of the game of the trenches for a game of football?

Haha! Bloodbowl! Have a christmas eve, christmas day and boxing day tournament between all 8 races to see who can play football best! Haha!

It is indeed appealing, that there are many, who NEVER read the lore, or even the descriptions of the campaigns in WC3... There are many facts, that you missed...:

(1) You must know, that the Alliance and the Horde, as the present setup, are not traditional: Night Elves were never a part of the allaince in Warcraft games, and the Undead were enemy of all living, as well... the Alliance is defined as "races that joined up with the humans", and the Horde as "races that support the Orcs", but its not a fully historical organization: teh horde had to rebuild itself from nil, after the second war: The Taurens are completely new to it, so are the Undead... The Night Elves are likewise unexpected to be part of the Alliance, that they so passionately hated in WC3... The Gnomes are like a phoenix: they were featured by WC2,then the concept was thrown out of the story with WC3, with Dwarves taking all their tinkerings: They were reborn in WOW from their ashes!!!

(2) There WAS a ceasefight agreement between Jaina and Thrall (just play WC3exp. campaigns, it's worth!!): also, the manual of WOW mentions this, just like the online version of the storyline!!!

(3) The current world is NOT like a world war (1 or 2): It is MUCH MORE similar to the Cold War!!! A polarized world, with sides not trusting eachother, numerous skirmishes, and other 'incidents', and local wars!! (battlegrounds!!)
In a world-scale war, one would expect huge, well-organized armies striking at eachothers cities, not just a few battered adventurers on a skirmish!!!

(4) If you would have tried to play ONLY AT ONCE on a PvE server, you would know, that you can roll out both allie and hordie chars: so you can always explore all the terrain: and the NPCs, as well as the whole terrain are pretty the same on all servers, be it RP, PvP or PvE!!! Just try it ,and you will know what's going on in Stormwind!!

Thanks for updatin me on the lore and history of warcraft there! Afraid to say i only ever played 1 and 2 and can't remember what happened in 2. So 3 is a mystery for me....

1) I was always a bit suspicious of the Night Elves as they looked a bit too "dark" to be an allie race and now you have cleared up that fact for me. And why are Tauren horde? They just a bunch of hippies that wanna see the world thrive with mother earth and all that nonsense. Last time I was in Thunderbluff I was so disgusted by the hippie mentality that I decided to swim in all their lakes and poison their water with my undead corpse.... Surely the night elves and tauren should have been on the opposite factions? The undead want to rid the world of life with their many plagues and poisons. The orcs thrive war and destruction. The trolls... Well trolls are trolls! :happy53: And then the tauren.... Wanting to preserve life and perpetuate the spirit of nature and all that nonsense. Makes no sense to me..... Guess Blizzard have thier reasons....

2) I did NOT know that! Thank you very much for the enlightenment! Big thumbs up to you :worship:

3) Again you have me. I was taken the ceasefire agreement in WWI merely as an example of how a ceasefire can come into account when the opposing factions realise they are still human beings and not just puppets for maniuplation by leaders of nations. But yes I agree totally. Wow is definately just numerous skirmishes with rumours of what the opposing faction is up to... Feels like it is building up to some cataclysmic war.... A cold war of misinformation and small battles here and there. Nice!

4) I play PvP. Didnt know the difference between PvE & PvP to start with. My girl just told me "roll on that server" and I did. Don't know if PvE is something for me cause I love the PvP style of play. (Nothing like watching 2 lvl 60's corpse gank you several hours and your toon is your main... My poor little lvl 31 guy.. Took a right smacking last night and cost me a fortune to get my gear repaired. Yes. I am a very poor warlock...)

Thanks for the history lesson and putting me right on everything I missed! Hope what I was trying to say makes more sense now that Arinnaya has taken the time to clairfy all the finer details I missed.

Still like the idea of a christmas football tournament to find the best race and best class!

I'll come with some rules later on.... Take care people!

If you aren't familiar with the Warcraft 3 setup of the races and alliances, here is a LINK (http://www.battle.net/war3/races.shtml), to help you!!!
Indeed, WOW has screwed up the races a lot...In contrast to WC1 and 2, there were already 4(!) factions in WC3, then again, contracted back to 2 in WOW: this caused several 'alignment' problems you can clearly see now...

To get a direct link to the (alwys a bit manipulated and modified) full storyline, click HERE (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/story/chapter5.html)..

I like your ideas of the sport contests: Maybe the car race at the Shimmering Flats should also be upgraded, and there should be multiple scenes added, where each and every race (like a country) could apply for contest, then win medals, like Olympics!!!

What a read! I use to be really in to my Warhammer 40k and knew the history so well. I can still today recall the entire history behind the rise of Space Marines as mankinds last hope, to the fall of many chapters to chaos, and the Horus Heresy story. The mystery of Dark Angels past that can be pieced together well if you collect all the information available. I love when a game is soaked in history. So why the change for wow? Why are the Night Elves suddenly allie and why not the possibility too have 4 factions?

Orc & Trolls - Horde.
Humans - Allies
Undead Scourge - Own faction
Gnomes - I could imagine neutral?
Goblins - Neutral. Imagine the ability to fight for the horde and then shaft them big style be switching factions.
Night Elves - Even though more evil inclined I can quite imagine them having their own agenda. So neutrality with a race or faction would only be for their own benefit.

(I've left some races out but you get the picture)

And why are Tauren Horde if the neutral goblins and horde destroying their home lands? They should definately be fighting for their own cause.

I think Blizzard should have stuck to the story that has taken years to build and taken the effort to make many factions and not just horde and ally. Undead, Horde, Tauren, Humans, Night Elves and leaving the obvious animosity in place and giving more potential to become at war with a faction or fight for your own races benefit.

Ha! Imagine the confusion in PvP! Is he neutral, ally, enemy? Sod it! Blast the guy down and worry about the honour rating later!

Back to the sports event. It is the only way I could ever imagine the warring factions coming together in the spirit of neutraility. Please feel free to extend this post with the events you would like to see.

And this is where we see racial traits playing a huge part in the football game.

I.e: Gnomes will be useless at football! Can you imagine them heading in the ball from a cross? Unless of course you have the special skill "Throw Gnome" Haha!

Goblin racers? My good the technology would be deadly! Nice cars though. More sporting events! More suggestions!

I didnt read much of that post but i did read ^that bit, imagine one day, you log on to find that the beloved hub of beauty that is Ironforge has been hit by the mother of all catapulty thingies. NPCs are nursing bandages and someone calls you aside...

OK that was a little of RPing (quite pathetic lol) basically, blizzard schedules this thing, totally secret, they have planned this from the beginning. The Horde has launched a raid on the alliance. Caught unawares all of the cities have been hit with debris. Darnassus is the worse as it is on the eastern continent. As I said NPCs should be nursing wounds, children crying all that stuff, and as soon as you start to move when you log on, you trigger a cut scene where an officer walks up to you and tells you what happened. He tells you that the alliance are co ordinating a retaliation, report to General XX in S1:7 in SW. Thats a quest, you go outside and the place is choas. People running screaming, theres dragons dive bombing Kharanos, bombs going off in the distance... Any way you get to SW some how and talk to the guy, he tells you to join whatever battle. The thing is whichever side that wins the most battles, becomes the 'winner' of the event, I am not sure what this means, you would want it to imply some sort of player reward or no one could be stuffed. It would also mean their cap cities are half destroyed etc etc. And untill the next big ole war, about 50% of the quests relate to this war, you need to steal something, i dunno war plans something like that. Anyway the point is, the next war happens, and you wanna win dont you? I think that would be kinda cool, but may get boring and tedious after a while. Sorry for not pressing return lol.

Also, i think this cease fire idea is really cool, cos on PvE servers you can have BG's, kinda like being on a PVP server, but what about when your on a PvP server, what can make it like a PvE server? dunno thats my logic...
