View Full Version : My first PvP experience...

So I was invited on my first raid this last weekend. I went along, despite, as I told those who had invited me, I had never PVP’d before let alone gone on a raid. So off we went to invade the horde in the Arathi highlands because they had raided refugee point. From the first it seemed fruitless….at least as far as my participation was concerned. The fast majority of the horde showed as a skull and crossbones to me. As I pointed out to the raid leader, I would have to be insane to fight someone under those conditions. I left but was asked to go back… “ You are not useless. You can always heal and rez.” I was told. Here is the problem with that. I was the only person in the raid (alliance side) that made any attempt whatsoever to rez anyone. I would get messages screamed at me… “REZ ME NEXT.” Here is the problem with that. Everyone want me to rez and heal, but NO ONE offered any support of any kind. No one made any attempt to keep the horde off me while I rezzed. When I died and ran back to my body I found an undead warrior waiting over the body. Did any of the people in the raid who begged me to rez them stay to help me out? You guessed it…it was a case of “rez me then go *&!@ yourself” When it was over I told the raid leader… “The next time I have an opportunity to either play an alliance paladin in a raid, or go to the dentist, remind me to go to the dentist.” Sure enough, within the next 10 minutes, someone was shouting at me to come help defend refugee point. The horde are attacking refugee point. My reply was simple… “let them have it.”
I wanted start in PVP but if this is what it is all about, being ganked and having no help whatsoever from selfish git who yells heal me, rez me and then runs away…what is the point? I was interested in PvP but this has turned me off of it forever. *sigh*

I really dislike town raids, they just mess things up for everyone in the area. With enough people, they just bring everyone to a laggy crawl. I did a couple of small Astranaar raids on the Horde side with my shaman several months back, but otherwise I've done nothing offensive.
I did join a raid group defending the Crossroads with my orc warrior a few days ago, when I found at least 20 Alliance of mixed levels at the north side of XR. Charged into the back of them a couple of times, died a couple of times, then rezzed to find them nearly all gone. Helped hunt down a few stragglers. Got over 10 HK's out of it, to go with my AB kills from earlier that day.

So is this sad first experience typical of what I will find if I enter one of the battlegrounds on the alliance side?

Not exactly. Battlegrounds are very different than raids as there is a common goal rather than just killing stuff. But the Alliance does tend to be a bit more disorganized than the Horde in PUGs.

PUG's? I had a pug once...his name was Winston. Will I find a similar experience to what I saw as an alliance battle ground member?

PUG = Pick Up Group (took me a while to figure that one out)
Most of those teams are pretty disorganized...so it doesn't surprise me. I don't really expect much cooperation to happen in world PvP. In BG matches, it's a little different. You'll see a bit more cooperation, but definately still some fools playing BG on any side.
Best bet for a good PvP experience is to hook up with a PvP crew and stick with them.

Battlegrounds are more structured, with defined goals, but Alliance players seem a little more disorganized. I say that with a 29 human paladin that usually loses in Warsong Gulch, a 37 undead priest who almost always wins at Arathi Basin, and a 44 orc warrior who wins about half of his AB matches. Things get better, more even at higher levels.
Rezzing is automatic at graveyard locations, so you won't be doing that in a Battleground. You're a paladin? You'd be buffing people, choosing an aura, and generally trying to stun your opponents. Seal of Justice isn't bad for stopping the enemy so your sides rogues, mages, and warlocks can deal the hurt.

disorganized, sure.. if your getting in a random group and dont lay out some rules or something.. Why is it when we go to lets say deadmines.. we first discus everybodys role.. this is so easy!! and we protect the healer/res first before thinking about our selfs. my opinion.. if you want somewhat of good pvp get some friends ... get to know them...know their playstyle. Pvp doesnt have to be sloppy and crap. just put a little more work in it, dont expect any random group to be good and organized. this is also said in another thread but dualing is preperation for the real deal...
