It's against the forum rules you agreed to, when you joined the official forums. Source (http://www.worldofwarcraft.net/policy/forum-coc.html;jsessionid=088F1B37BD9016C8B36B64FAB5FC8FB1.08_app03). It can get your backside banned, so folks behave themselves.
Same applies here by the by.. So no funny stuff.. :xmas15:

it doesnt say anything in that link about discussing what happens on a pvp server. also these are not the official forums. and i think that playfull banter "trash talking" can still be fun and stay civil.
i wasnt talking about getting on a forum and talking about someones gay dad. lighten up.

if they are official or not has nothing to do whit the fact that you agreed to some forum rules :)
on topic though, i see alot of flaming, trash talking, taunting etc on my server's forum. it s the inoficial kil'jaeden forum, and it s full of flamewars aka "player xy ganked my lvl 20 twink" etc... i can t say how it is on other forums, but i dont htink taht it is that amusing after all... well, you may like it :) matter of personal taste i assume

I doubt they were in actuality taunting you. For example, though i am on a PvE server, occasionally i will see a flagged hordie. The other day i was in STV with a guy questing and there was like a hordie about 1 or two levels above both of us. There was an ally next to us, so I say 'lets get him' etc. They were most probably discussing strategies.

What you think is irrelevant, it matters what the mods think. The official forums are in that sense no different from the forums here. In both cases, they are privately owned boards with their own regulations. The ones here have the following rules.
1. Thou Shalt Not Flame or Troll. Even if you strongly hate the content of a post, and detest the individual to whom you're responding so strongly you dream of seeing Murlocs playing football with his internal organs, please exercise restraint and post without flames. (You are allowed, however, to make rude facial expressions and socially unacceptable hand gestures as you press "submit.") Do not bypass the word filter.
Your behaviour is judged not just here, but elsewhere. If you slander or libel this site or the site staff on another website, forum, or by other public means, your membership in WorldofWar.Net's forums may be terminated without notice.
9. Thou Shalt Accept the Admin's Decisions. We reserve the right to ban [temporarily or permanently] or place on Probation [limit privileges] any member of WorldofWar.Net forums without warning. We reserve the right to edit, move or remove any post made on WoldofWar.Net without warning or explanation. We reserve the right to edit any portion of a member profile without warning. You will accept all this gladly and with open arms because we do it with love.
10. Thou Shalt Not Mention "Freedom of Speech." Or we'll vomit. This is a private forum, and you are our invited guests. The administrators have a tough job, trying to keep the forums clean and presentable while not willingly stifling open discussion. If a thread or post is locked or deleted, that was the necessary step to take in the judgment of the administrator. Please don't bandy irrelevant constitutional law and hope to plea the case for less "censorship." Don't start a vote, don't throw food, don't throw a hissy fit, don't light up torches and mob our central office. We don't censor, we exercise judgment and quality control on something in which we invest a lot of time and effort. We only accept posts written in English.
Some of the rules here. (http://forums.worldofwar.net/rules/)
Meanwhile, on the official forums..
Spamming and Trolling
This category includes:
* Excessively communicating the same phrase, similar phrases, or pure gibberish
* Creating threads for the sole purpose of causing unrest on the forums
* Causing disturbances in forum threads, such as picking fights, making off topic posts that ruin the thread, insulting other posters
* Making non-constructive posts
Other Categories
There are two other categories of harassment that are not necessarily related to the language used, these are listed below.
* Ongoing harassment
Harassment takes many forms, and is not necessarily limited to the type of language used, but the intent. Repeatedly targeting a specific player with harassment can lead to more severe action. The idea behind this is to prevent any one player from consistently being uncomfortable in the World of Warcraft forums.
What you deem to be fun, others might not view the same way. Hence, why folks behave themselves, being fully cognizant of this fact and that such displays of "playfulness" can be misinterpreted and lead to some unfortunate consequences.
As for me lightening up. I'm merely trying to warn you about the potential consequences of your actions. You don't care.. By all means carry on then. Remains to be seen then how long you last here.
Actually on the official forum for Earthen Ring there is a good deal of respect between the PvPers of both factions. There is a little bit of accussations and naming and shaming as well, but as a rule, players respect each other.
Trash talking in some unofficial forums just is very embarressing usually for all sides involved. makes me cringe...same as "l33t-sP34k", really.
