Hi all,

My enitre time in WoW has been spent on PvE servers. I felt they were lacking though and decided to move the Oceania PvP realm Frostmourne. I've got my Tauren Druid up to lvl 32 so I thought I'd hit STV/Desolace(1k Needles is just crap, I hate the zone). Over the past two hours I've been killed 14 times in both zones. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Coming from a PvE server I just collect the quests and go where they take me. I'm starting to think that's not a good idea. Should I pick a spot with mobs good to level on and just stay there the entire time grinding? Also, what have others done around my level and what advice do you pass onto a noob? :D

Yes, you are doing something wrong: you went to STV. The only way to avoid ganking is to do your leveling in instances, or away from zones easily accessed by the opposing force.

You're probably just unlucky. STV is known for its massive ganking, but certainly it doesn't mean that you can't quest/grind there. First, you should have PvP on your mind at all times, and expect to go against any other players at all times. This would mean gearing more for PvP, always having buffs on, etc. Your a druid, so you should probably be stealthed as much as possible if you don't want to be conspicuous.

Lastly, don't ever travel on the road, especially in STV. It isn't bad once you get to 40+ (at least until you reach W/EPL).

I have been playing on PVP servers since open beta and never really had problems with being ganked so much I couldn't quest or level effectivly. I however live in Europe and play on US servers so I am on during "off hours" when no one else is around. For STV I do agree that it is gank centeral. There is a high level instance that pulls in the 60s that like to gank while waiting for raid groups as well as the high level players that are their anti ganking for their buddies. I would highly advise avoiding the main road at all costs and swim up and down the coast as much as possible for travel. There are plenty of other areas that are less gank prone at your level, look into those as well.

On my server, Desolace is pretty much Horde Territory, never been ganked much there. STV is the worst in the game. You could try Arathi, although it's pretty crowded usually. Duskwallow Marsh is very quiet, but there is not very much to do.

I found 1k needles one of the coolest parts btw. The Shimmering flats are pretty good for leveling.

I was in the exact same situation, and here are the places I have found. Note that I almost never do instances so that is not an option. You can spend plenty of time in the southern Barrens instances and not have to worry about ganking. I believe that grinding is your best bet for levelling, particularly if you have multiple characters (as I do) and always play with rested XP. Multiple characters are also the best gank defense; let them camp a character you aren't playing at the moment, just go get another one.

Barrens until lvl 26 or 28, depending on your tolerance for the chat. The run to decent mobs gets long, you might choose to go to 1kN earlier.

Thousand needles until 32, either in the cave with the centaur or in Highperch. Once you get to either of these places, you are free from the roaming gankers.

Desolace until 38. Just outside the horde town are the lobster-looking things. Swim north up the coast and you have naga-style mobs. There is an island in the northwest that worked very well for me.

Dustwallow Marsh until 44. Just outside the horde town here are spiders and such for late 30s. There is a collection of raptors south of town that is excellent grinding in your 40s.

Feralas until 46 or 48. Several nice places to grind, including a yeti cave and the dragonlings (sprite darters?) right next to horde town.

Azshara until late 50s. There is so much good grinding here and very little hassle.
