View Full Version : Cheaters?

Is it just me or does it seem like there is a large community of cheaters on PvP servers? Just curious...but it seems there are a great number of people that use a "speed hack" and/or a "radar hack" when playing on a PvP server.

I did some research to confirm the existence of these hacks and found that they are not at all fairy tales...and any person with a moderate level of ingenuity could reasonably make use of such "hacks". Am I the only one that notices that some people appear to be cheating?

How can you prove that people are cheating so that games like WoW are not ruined by exploitative behavior? Please throw in your copper on this one.

In a nutshell.
Report them to a GM, they follow the players around to see if they are displaying behaviour typically found with hack users, they get banned.

Just report them. If they are, odds are they will try to log in the next day, only to find their account banned.

Well, tbh i noticed some strange moves in some WSG games, in a particular way the thing that when we go attack they take the path where no one is in our base... could be wrong tho, well if i find anyone suspetive ill report them immediatly.

Well...that should teach you to guard all entrances...rather than immediately suspecting a hack...

I saw something strange yesterday. I was guarding the flag with my hunter in WSG when a mage grabbed it and blinked to the tunnel. I slowed him and then ran up to wing clip him. I was swinging at him as well as my pet.

Without any casting animation he was suddenly gone. I figured he must have blinked, so I look down the tunnel and don't see him. I then try to follow my pet to him, but my pet is now following me.

I was thinking he must have fell under the world, but the next thing I know people in the middle of the map are chasing him.

It could have just been a bug or something, so I'm not going to call anyone a cheater.

In my previous post, I wasn't trying to say cheating doesn't happen...I witnessed a guy on a regular mount riding faster than me on my epic...I had a carrot AND a mount speed enchant at the time...

He is still on the server, but was removed from the guild (my former guild) after the guild GM caught the guy teaching guild members on vent how to speed hack...

I particularly liked yesterday, when a group of higher level alliance tried to grief my well organized group in Stormgarde, and they were horribly beaten down. Halfway through the fight, after several losses on their side, their mage literally ports out. I had it confirmed by an alliance friend on vent he was in an entirely different zone.

Not hearth mind you. A simple vanish while taking damage.

I've seen something like this when connections are laggy. Or at least that is what it seemed like. Is it just one person? Or is everyone on the map moving like that?

@Euro-Crash: How can you prove someone is cheating? Tough to prove it. If you observe enough behavior that is different from everyone else then you can suspect it, and report your suspicions to the GM.

If you're queued into the battlegrounds and it pops up in the middle of fighting, you can click "enter" and it ports you into the instance...Just an FYI before you start spamming the report macro.

Yes, indeed. Of course, he wasn't in either zone when we verified it, but I suppose he could have afkd out or some other strange occurance. I didnt even consider a bg, thanks =)

I didnt report as I found it more funny than anything, and theres much worse things you could do beside run away. ;p

We were checking entrances before we attacked with our attack group helped with our defense group, that's why i called it strange.... we DID check all entrances... could be nothing but just a mistake tho i ain't accusing anyone...

We have this hunter on our server who camps the flight path at Kargath every time around raid time for our guild. He's usually queued for Arathi Basin and when he starts getting pounded too much he accepts the invite, after about 10 minutes he comes back to start picking people off again.

I had this guy using a speed hack on me the other day, he was stealth walking faster then my run stealth sprint. I thought I had FRAPS up so I hit the record button then mind controlled him to tell him he's busted, but like an idiot I had closed FRAPS for better FPS. I was going to post the video on the forums.

Remeber that Wow has Warden built in now, it dont run all the time but it does check EVERY process on YOUR system... best thing is to msg GM on possible hackor and let it be, if they are hacking , they will run warden for review by an engineer, if the see a process thats is coincidered not viable for standard gameplay they will rectify the situation fast and such.. best to just report let it be..

I'm missing something...I thought mind control couldn't be used on a friendly party...And, if you were using it on an enemy, how can you communicate with him?

If you mind control an enemy, you can type away in their respective language. So, if a Troll Priest mind controls a gnomish rogue, then he can have the gnome say things in either Common or Gnomish.

Meaning communication is sort of possible. Example: situation above.
Troll has the Gnome say: Gnomes taste good with a nice bottle of Chianti and some fava beans

Troll priest would know what was said.. Gnome would be looking for the nearest hideyhole so he can get out of Dodge as soon as the spell wears off.

It was an enemy. You mind control them and you can use emotes to tell them what you want. They just can't respond to you.

example:

/em says, "Good luck with the speed hack, I just opened a ticket."

Shows to the enemy:

Stoupe says, "Good luck with the speed hack, I just opened a ticket."

I'm a Rogue so this is with a mind control cap on. You can't move your victim or make them speak with a mind control cap on. When you talk it still makes your own person speak and they're unable to understand AFAIK. I do know emotes work though, but I haven't tried mind controlling with a priest, they're different abilities.

What indicator makes you think they can read what you type?

It's been reported by cross faction guilds. Meaning two guilds, on opposing factions, but both guilds belong to a bigger overarching guild. Said folks like to battle with and against each other and often have alts on both sides and in both guilds.

Yep, true as can be. Me and a friend of mine were PvPing, and we were talking on vent when suddenly he says "WTF? This AC guy just spoke to me and I understood every word he said." We were both baffled at the time by how he had done it, and figured that he must have used a cheat to communicate. I'm still not sure how he did it, but my first guess would be that he was a priest and mind controlled my bud.

That would port someone to anywhere.

I've seen a dwarf speak orcish. He was in my party and he didn't say anything about it, just lol'ed and shifted the conversation. It was very strange indeed...

There has been a 3rd party application that has been around basically since the game was released, that's available on the same site all this time and gets updated regularly. I check it every now and then to see if they're getting shut down or something, or even better, they post it won't work on the new patch. But so far, neither the new Blizzard hack scan and none of the patches seems to slow it down. They advertise it can: Speed hack: Run/swim/mount at up to 200% of normal speed.
Combat teleport: Record spots and warp in between them having your foe run around, not being able to hit you, while you kill it with ranged attacks.
No falldamage.
Track Creatures/Track Items.
Tracking you can't verify, but the others should be visible. So if you see any of that, report it.

Edit: It seems Blizzard can identify this now, so it doesn't rely solely on other people's reports. Found this quote from a banned hack user:Well, in my continued nagging for a reason for my suspension, I finally have some dialogue going with a real person (finally got past the canned responses after about 12 e-mails). Here's another snippet:

"The most I can tell you, because of security concerns, is that your account was flagged by our server for making coordinate changes that are simply not possible using standard game mechanics. We have reviewed the log related to the incident in question and data confirms the use of a 3rd party program."But report it anyway of course, because a lot of people are still using it.

I used to think a lot of people were using hacks.

but most of what I see that looks wierd can be explained by latency issues. considering how Diablo II eventually became overrun with cheats and hacks I honestly figured this game would be the same way. so far im pretty impressed that the worst thing going on large scale seems to be gold farming.

Not saying some stuff like the teleport hacks isn't going on. Just saying its impact on my personal gaming experience is pretty much non existant.

Well, an extremely old reply but a decent idea after all.

Its unlikely, as the party he seemed to be in did have a warlock in it, who was standing several yards from me when it happened.

Of course, its possible he was tagging along with a secondary group, and I have no way to prove what group he was a part of.

Playing on a PvP server though, you do see a LOT more cheating than on a PvE generally. Mostly in the form of tele-hacks within your own faction (as you can track them easier).

1.10 came and was great ^^ a whole new game, it was... and a year later it was flooded whit all the cheats, bots and dupes again...

anyway, on topic. I d like to remind you taht the game we love is extremely crappy programmed. No collision checks, map bugs etc. Also most servers are full by now and extremely laggy. So think not only twice but trice before you report someone please.

About mindcontrolling: I'm 100% certain that you can see what he types in emotes since I've been MC'ed in this way. Lvl ?? Priest outside astranaar and I'm looking for a fight so I charge him just for fun. He MC me and:

(orange emote text)
Priest please.. I'm not here to gank lowbies, you don't have to worry.

Kind of cool, but I couldn't talk back to him using emotes. Then I've had a 60 priest MC my 25 alt only to buff it up with fortitude. :) I /hugged him.

Concerning cheats:
Never seen one, ever. I play a high pop PvP server. My advice is to not report anything until you're 60 and know all the classes tricks. For instance when I was lvl 49 and fighting in AB this warlock shielded himself. I couldn't figure out what it was and thought it must be a cheat, but it was simply him using the "Talisman of Arathor"-trinket... There are tons of stuff that looks suspicios at first encounter, but like I said, never ever heard or seen of a cheat in wow.

There was a hunter using tele scripts in the 10-19 level BG. I was hitting him, and then hed tele away from me to arch me. It happened a few times, and he was reported by alot of people on my team. I would say it was lag, but it happened way to often and he was really controlled with it.

As for speed hacks, dont forget about swift pots and speed enchant. (or is that engineer boots...?) I don't really know, Im new. =]

Negative. He clearly states that the mage blinks and then the hunter and pet are swinging at the mage. That means the mage is in combat. Invisibility pots will not work when you are in combat. They have to be used beforehand. Very interesting.......
