Earyldur has dug up <a href="http://www.talnivarr.com/index.php?subaction=showfull&id=1140475618&archive=&start_from=&ucat" target="_new">this email</a> apparently sent out to the French community yesterday.* It's been translated into English and suggests* that the camps of murlocs we often find located on beaches may have a hidden agenda.</p><p>"According to several sources, including murlocs, the fish-men are adorers or slaves of many abyssal monsters. Those monsters are waiting or sleeping deep into water. The recent murlocs invasion may announce they soon awaken."</p><p>All in all the email is pretty cryptic.* Although the email was sent only to the French community this is not entirely unusual as the Lunar Festival announcement email went out to them first, before the public announcement.</p><p>If everything is above board with the email then certainly something is about to happen, involving some form of water beasties and a 'terrifying' event.
For the French speaking/reading people, here is the original letter:

Suggestions have been made its the new Alliance race, but that seems a bit far off to me. A new world event to introduce these creatures into Azeroth seems more likely to me...

Well, I did receive no such letter :/ But that sounds exciting ;)

I am not sure how it was sent out, could have been to French fan sites only...

IIRC, the French have a holiday that literally translates to "Day of the Fish". It's akin to April Fools' Day, or something to that effect.
French class in high school was so long ago.

Well, to be honest we already saw a glimpse of this in the introduction of the Horde campaign in WC3, or to be more precise the demo of which. What with the Murlocks enslaved to the Sea Witch, who may or may have not been a Naga, or something undead.
And considering Azshara is still living below the waves.. Not going to be pretty.
Not that a rampaging band of Murlocks was going to be pretty to begin with..

Is that thing properly secured??

Yeah, something to do with the Naga perhaps, just because of that series of leavels in the Warcraft 3 camp.

It should be interesting to see where this goes. I doubt it is a sign of the newalliance race, although, it could be related. I suspect it might be a new event boss. They just came out with a new isntance, and have another in the works already, i doubt its an instance. Of course, it's french, so take it with a grain of salt

Well if you look at this part of the text:
Those last years, the nasty nagas has started to emerge from their underwater residences, implicating the idea to historians that their migration might be the origin of the slow murloc's invasion. To the opposite, some think murlocs work together with those amphibian monsters.
The most surprising report reveals that Naga may not be the only abomination that hide deep into the ocean.
According to several sources, including murlocs, the fish-men are adorers or slaves of many abyssal monsters. Those monsters are waiting or sleeping deep into water. The recent murlocs invasion may announce they soon awaken.
It means it is not the Naga that this is about. Not only have the Naga already awakened, it also says the Naga are not the only living things in the deeps of the sea...
[EDIT] Misunderstood you there, your not refering to TFT...

Could be related, but I seriously doubt that Blizzard would put a French holiday into the lore, and make that the reason of the murloc invasion. That seems a bit too game changing for a simple holiday. Also, its quite early to start with 1 april jokes, though you never know with Blizzard...

Know what, guys? April Fool's Day = Late New Year!
In sixteenth-century France, the start of the new year was observed on April first. It was celebrated in much the same way as it is today with parties and dancing into the late hours of the night. Then in 1562, Pope Gregory introduced a new calendar for the Christian world, and the new year fell on January first. There were some people, however, who hadn't heard or didn't believe the change in the date, so they continued to celebrate New Year's Day on April first. Others played tricks on them and called them "April fools." They sent them on a "fool's errand" or tried to make them believe that something false was true. In France today, April first is called "Poisson d'Avril". French children fool their friends by taping a paper fish to their friends' backs. When the "young fool" discovers this trick, the prankster yells "Poisson d’Avril!" (April Fish!)
Though known to the Night Elves on Kalimdor for some time, the murlocs are relatively new to the eastern continents of Lordaeron and Azeroth. It is purported that murlocs are actually a very ancient race of the world, at least as old as the first Naga since the serpentine creatures enslaved a group of deep sea-dwelling murlocs known as the Mur'gul.

Now that the French ranting is over has no-one noticed the new Hydraxian Water Lords [from memory, it's maintenance time] reputation bar??
Further proof, me thinks.
@triplex
come on now mate..
that really was inappropriate :(
you just might make a particular _murloc_ very very hungry! and you dont want to do that, do you?

You get the Hydraxian Water Lords rep bar by either starting a Molten Core related questline or by going to MC itself.
It is not new.

I hope that whatever thing the Murlocs are a part of involve.... octopuses.........
Lol, octopuses are my favorite animals. I'd love to see them in this game. Reading Queen Azshara's description, it sounds like she is a semi octo herself.
Actually she is just a Naga, however, her palace lays on a giant octopus, and is shaping up like this:

Instance, chances of the expansion coming out within a couple of months is slim. We're looking at X0mas 2006 at least.
It has been confirmed by Tigole that they (Blizzard) are working on content for the Maelstrom ...but it hasn't been confirmed if that is aimed for the Burning Crusade expansion or post-expansion.
The temple-on-a-octopus has been in the game files for ages now and still lacks textures. It is even featured in the art book that came with the CE of WoW.
I like where this is going and though I'm not thinking that Blizzard are considering making Murlocs a playable race they sure are destined for a bigger place in the lore ... but if they was to make them playable I'd have to reroll one at once!

Murlocs are more "shamanistic" and as you can't roll as an Alliance Shaman, I seriously doubt Murlocs are the new Alliance race.
Would be cool tho...

Theory : Tokens from Murlocs in any area, use on "Water Stone" akin to "Wind Stone" in Silithus, found in Murloc encampments.
Water Stones on every coastline where murlocs reside. Cannot use lvl 20 tokens on lvl 50 waterstones.
Use tokens on Water Stone for Rare Mob to spawn equal to the level of that given region. Prize = BoP or BoE item for that region or something similar.
tbh they have not added any new content for lowbies other than the BG (I think). This could just be some lowbie love.
That was my first thoght anyway. Probably wont be.

The information about this "event" is now published on all the official websites.
I have a feeling that this is going to be a big joke on the part of Blizzard but you never know, perhaps there will be something for us to do other than just have the wool pulled over our eyes on April 1st.

Of the Five initial Old Gods, one was slain; its remains can be seen at the Master's Glaive in Darkshore.
This resembles a bit like an octopus, I think.
