Might be a newbish question, but hey, that's what we're here for.

How do you become perma-pvp-tagged? Is the perma temporary? If so, why is it called perma? I just see all sorts of people throwing this out and I haven't got the slightest clue what they mean.

What sort of server are you on?

If its a PvP server then you are fair game anywhere once you are past level 20 (I think).

On a PvE serveer you can toggle your PvP status with /pvp.

I'm talking about pve servers. Some say they're perma-pvp, or someone is perma-pvp. I know you can toggle, I know you're fair game on pvp-servers if you're out of your "homelands". Well, anyhow...

If they are on a PvE server then it would mean that they leave their PvP permanently flagged PvP hence the Perma-flagged statement.

i have a friend who plays like that on our PvE server as he prefers the challenge and loves getting ganked

I think there's mods that will let you automatically toggle PVP when it is off.

No such thing as a true perma-pvp flag. Whether in a PvP or PvE server a player can flag himself and keep it that way since level 1. By doing this one would refer to oneself as perma-flagged, but this is not 100% accurate since it is the player's option.

BTW I used to do this on a PVE til I realized that there was absolutely no advantage for it besides RP reasons or you're masochistic. Only higher levels or parties will attack you. You will never have a fair fight flagged in PvE.

On RP servers certain guilds require their members to be permanently flagged.

An excercise in not thinking it through?

"Oooh, but it's better for immersion"

I assume it hurts the immersion less than being ganked and magically coming back to life for no readily apparent reason.

Bless those RPers.

*shrugs*

Back when there were no RP-PVP servers, this was the only way to roleplay a group of dedicated enemies of the Horde/Alliance.

why not just roll on pvp server then? (or rppvp if that's your cup of tea)

like someone said, on pve server it means your oponent automaticaly gets the first shot every single time, and only people who have a clear advantage will fight you to begin with.
on pvp server you never know who you'll run into and have to fight, could be weaker, could be stronger, could be equal

Could be, zkajan, but rarely ever is. I don't think my little undead priest (who exists on a PvP server) has every been attacked by a solo player within ten levels of her. She tends to be ganked by groups of rogues, generally of a higher level.

I have had a few one-on-one encounters, but they are usually when I have attacked a higher level player who was ganking lowbies. It seems that the love of "easy mode" isn't limited to those idiots who raid 5-man instances :)

Aye. I used to wander around flagged a bit in my mid-30s. It was fun for a while, and I did have a couple of fair fights. But then I had my first encounter with a lvl ?? corpse-camper, and got bored of the whole idea....

well there seems to be a lvl range where extra ganking is done (all my alts lvling, my 60 was a first gen 60 so there weren't really many "skulls" when he was lvling) around lvls 20-35. seems like the ideal zone to hit up for easy stress relief kills for some people i guess. all my alts once they make it past this zone the ganking goes down a lot and it becomes a lot more 1v1 or small group vs small group

i also have a char on an pve server and it seems that regardless of the lvl the only time I'll see someone flagged is if they are some sort of bait and there is a stealthed rogue(s) and/or druid(s) with them

Heh, my hunter once got some assistance with a mob from an orc warrior who was flagged. He did get an entirely accidental crit in the face from a 2h axe due to a misclick, but seemed not to take umbrage. There are a few nice people out there, even with the protection of distance and anonymity.

Hmmmm, my experience has been "you will never have a fair fight flagged."

If there are fair Horde players on Scarlet Crusade or Blackrock, I've never met them. Disclaimer: I abandoned my char on Blackrock at level 25 so possibly I was still in the "zone of maximum ganking."

Cheers
