I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there is a listing of what level fishing is required for an area?

Here is some information I found on the net. It was first posted by a guy named Draznar on Magtheridon server. I can't link to it as it would violate our forum rules, though.Azeroth

Dustwallow Marsh: Fishing skill needed is 150-300

Tanaris: Fishing skill needed is 225-275
Thousand Needles: Fishing skill needed is 75-125
Un?Goro Crater: Fishing skill needed is 225-275In addition to the starting areas mentioned above, ponds and rivers in main cities like Stormwind, Darnassus and Orgrimmar also require skill 1-50. And actually, the maximum skill is redundant, since you can skill up your fishing from 1 to 300 in the same pond. The area you fish in only determines the sort of fish you'll catch, and your skill of course determines in what area you can fish.

There are some areas (Bay of Storms in Azshara for example) that the skill required is higher than 300. You have to have lures, plus a good fishing pole to fish those waters.

ps - if theres anyone I hav't thanked for an answer, its beause I usually don't want to post just to thank someone, putting the message up artificially. THis one was near the top, and REALLY REALLY good

No worries, and about those thank you posts... We do forbid artificial bumping, but posting "Thank you" is not really what I would call artificial bumping. ;)
And uhm, it was just my googling skills coming up with this information.

whiy is this not a sticky?

Basically, Bigairbrucey, because I don't want to change this forum into a sticky heaven. There are hundreds of guides about WoW professions to be found on the internet. If I would search around on Google a bit, I would be able to fill the entire front page (probably the first three or four pages of the forum) with loads of stickied guide threads. But that is not the intention of this forum. People ask questions, other people help, that is the intention.
If you want guides, we have a guide page at the main website (http://guides.worldofwar.net) with an entire section dedicated to professions and (http://www.worldofwar.net/professions/index.php). I am also in the process of making an inventory of this forum to increase the number of guides on that page section and at the same moment decrease the number of stickies here.
If you write or find a good guide, you are more than welcome to submit it to guides.worldofwar.net (make sure first that you have permission from the author when you didn't write the guide yourself, though). Overloading this forum with stickied guides would just be a tad bit redundant, and even more, it would actually create a competition with the guides page.

This might be a nice addition: places where to find schools of fish, floating wreckage, etc. It's probably incomplete, but definitely useful:
Azeroth
Stranglethorn Vale: river and sea
Khaz Modan
Wetlands: sea only
Lordaeron
Hillsbrad Foothills: river and sea
Northern Kalimdor
Azshara: Bay of Storms, only elemental water, rare!
Darkshore: sea only
Desolace: sea only
The Barrens: sea only?
Southern Kalimdor
Dustwallow Marsh: sea only
Ferales: sea only, including the fjord
Tanaris: sea only

 Nice I was looking for something like this  . Quick question are those numbers with lures or what you roughly want withoutThey are just the plain skill levels needed. Lures upgrade your skill temporarily, so if you want, you can tackle them earlier and achieve that particular skill level with lures.

I dont know if this should go here, but i need to ask it someplace...
How much is that book "The Bass and You" in booty bay? I've got a level 20 hunter who's needing it, but i know i wont make the trip without repeatedly dying. At least, not while i'm low on cash and not sure if i can afford it. It would really...REALLY suck if i made the trip and died 15+ times just to find out i cant afford it....

Reading through this leaves me with a few questions. I have read some of the other posts on fishing. Maybe I am nuts. I enjoy the fishing part of the game. Also, I recently went fishing in Winterspring. I went to a small steaming pond right near the entrance with the furbolg tunnel that got me there. I have 300 fishing and use the "nat pagel extreme angler" fishing pole that gives +25 to fishing. Even so, when I first dipped my line in the water I got "skill level not high enough"
Wow.
I added a lure and was in business. I got a white scaled verson of the bass. Yet for the life of me I cannot find a recipe to cook it anywhere.:ponder:
I have also found a recipe for squid and lobster. I understand that squid is only available during the winter months. Is this true? Where do I find lobster? The receipe asked for actual lobster; not just the shellfish that are in the cages off the coast of desolace. Any ideas where I can fish up lobster?

Just some additional notes in parentheses based on personal experience:
This might be a nice addition: places where to find schools of fish, floating wreckage, etc. It's probably incomplete, but definitely useful:
Azeroth
Stranglethorn Vale: river and sea (River near Grom Gol and possibly others have shoals of greater sagefish. The sea, at least on the Grom Gol side, has Oily Blackmouth shoals).
Khaz Modan
Wetlands: sea only
Lordaeron
Hillsbrad Foothills: river and sea (River south of TM has shoals of sagefish. Never fished the sea there but I wanna say I saw OB shoals when questing along the coast.)
Northern Kalimdor
Azshara: Bay of Storms, only elemental water, rare!
Darkshore: sea only
Desolace: sea only (all along coast has shoals of Firefin and, to a lesser extent, Oily Blackmouth)
The Barrens: sea only? (Ratchet and Merchant Coast is OB shoals. There are also occasional Deviate Fish shoals inland in the various oases)
Southern Kalimdor
Dustwallow Marsh: sea only (mostly Firefin from what i have seen with occasional OB shoals. The coast can also be accessed from the Barrens coastline below Northwatch Hold or whatever it is called. However, if you are under lvl35 beware of wandering very far into Dustwallow this way due to Murlocs. Nothing dangerous in the water, just turtles, until you get to the Locs)
Ferales: sea only, including the fjord
Tanaris: sea only (I have personally never seen a shoal fishing at Steamwheedle but admittedly haven't explored the rest of the coast. Non-shoal fishing off the Steamwheedle pier will return mostly Spotted Yellowtail, Glossy Mightfish, Rockscale Cod, giant clams, some Firefin and a small number of Stonescale Eel)

This is the 3rd or 4th site that I have been to that has stated that fishing is available in Badlands. I have been there several times with several of my characters and as far as I can see the Badlands is nothing but desert with no water or lava to speak of. If such a place in Badlands does exist where fishing may occur I would truly appreciate some coordinates to show me where exactly.
