Is 300 Minning totally useless?

OK, so I've had minning and BS on my pally since the beginning. Looked great, got to make lots of my own armor, etc.

But now I'm 60, have 300 BS Axesmithing, and I can't find thorium to save my life. I mine (or at least try to) on the Skywall server. But everywhere I go is either overminned (EPL, WPL, Winterspring, Burning Steppes, etc) or surrounded by 60 elites (the george south of WInterspring anyone?)

So what's a guy to do? It's not even like I play at high traffic times. I can't even find thorium when I try minning in the morning!

Any suggestions?

I'm a 60 pally on Bronzebeard, and yes, you can easily mine the area with the elites in Winterspring, especially if you have your epic mount (it isn't required, but it does make it easier). Just run and pull them, they don't follow too far. Then go back and mine away.

I found that I spent most of my time running from place to place only to find that everything was tapped out before I got there.

I found two solutions:

1) Mine at really off times. I'm an early bird, so at like 5:00 a.m. Eastern Time is good... especially on weekends. Even then you'll sometimes have competition.

2) Mine lower minerals, sell them, and buy Thorium. I can mine stacks of copper in the time that I spend trying to find a single rich Thorium vein. And no risk of 60 Elites guarding copper veins! And for some reason copper prices are usually very good on my server... sometimes as high as 1.5G a stack...

Try the bug area of the unguro crater. No one likes bugs... so they go there for the quests and never go back. There are some ooze covered thorium mines there.

To follow up on the previous post... go mining dark iron ore in the searing gorge and sell it on the AH. On Eldre Thais it goes for 7ish gold for a stack fo 10 ore (not bars).
