Well I farmed most of the mats for spellpower, but now I'm thinking of selling them and powerleveling tailoring from 0 to 300 instead.

Selling the mats should get me ~250g. If I buy all my tailoring mats from the AH, would that be nearly enough to level it?

Here's the guide.

You can figure out the cost by looking through the mats needed.

I did tailoring 300 on my priest, and actually made a profit, even when I bought all the mats on the ah.

My advice, as soon as you can make runecloth bags (270) keep making em too 300. You will make about 60-70 of em to get to 300, but they always sell with profit. Unlike the guide noted who says "make runecloth gloves" which on my server NEVER sell.

Hope this helps.

Also always make bolts untill they are grey, you need en anyway and better to get free skillpoints for them.

I have to second the idea of making and selling bags. They always sell so you at least get some return on your investment and all the gloves, shoulders, helms, etc. I made sold only sporadically.

Those guides are also stickied on the top of this forum, btw. ;)

I did 0-300 but I tried to do it using only bolts and recipes that were green or blue. That way I could disenchant anything that I made and sell the dusts. This helps keep the costs down but unless you farm the cloth yourself, you will need a substantial investment to get to 300. Runecloth on my server goes for 2g a stack so that's a whole lot of money just on that!

It's best that you have a high level toon before you decide to do tailoring. Unlike the other professions, the raw mats are cloth which is dropped by humanoids. Humanoids are everywhere. Here is humanoids I recommend for farming cloth, assuming Alliance. Horde can collect silk, mageweave and runecloth using these recommendations

Linen: Westfall Defias. They are everywhere, particularly at Moonbrook and the path leading to the lighthouse.

Wool: Deadmines. They either drop wool or linen. As you go deeper into the instance, more wool will be dropped.

Silk: Scarlet Monastary. Everyone drops silk inside.

Mageweave: Ogres in either Tanaris or Feralas.

Runecloth: Sorrow Hill undead. They are the lowest level undead there that drops runecloth exclusively. A point to note about the undead in WPL is that runecloth is greater in quantities here than other similar level humanoids. This is because runecloth is used in the cauldron quests.

Like what Morollan said, it's best to combine with an enchanter, or at the least, have an enchanter alt. Disenchanting the greens often gives sellable enchant mats. I am not really keen on blues, since they usually use mats which are not cloth and are not readily available eg. Spidersilk boots which uses iridescent pearls, and Dreamweave which uses wildvine.

This guide is great. I used it and got to 264 yesterday, so far costing ~150g with guildmates helping by sending me their random stacks of cloth.

With prices on my server it's looking like it will cost me around ~70g more to get to 300. So overall it wasn't too bad.
