View Full Version : Connection problems after moving house

I've recently moved house. I'm therefore on a new internet connection. I don't have control over the ISP, but I can fiddle with router settings.

Since moving, I've been finding that often when I log in to WoW, I can see the world around me but I can't do anything. It's as though there is infinite lag, or as though I can receive data from the server but can't send any to it (this may be over-simplistic).
For instace, if I cast a spell I will get the casting animation for ever. If I /w myself, it will never arrive. But I see other players moving about quite happily.

Eventually, after a minute or so like this, I get disconnected.

The odd thing is that this is not consistent - sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it is fine playing one character, but if I log out and log into an alt, I get it.

It doesn't appear to be a firewall problem. My software firewall (ZoneAlarm) hasn't changed since I moved house, and I've tried disabling the one built into the router to no avail - problem still persists.

Any ideas, folks?

Thanks

EDIT: I should add that once I am in a session (ie a login) that works, then it works fine until I log out. But if I switch to an alt I may be doomed again...

I've been getting hit with random disconnects as well, and have tried disabling addons, renaming WTF/WDB/Interface directories, and used the repair.exe app, and none of it has helped. I tried calling Blizz tech support and, after waiting at least fifteen minutes on hold, my cordless battery gave out, so I'm going to assume it's not a problem that just I am experiencing.

FWIW, I solved my problem... the variable that had changed, I eventually realised, was that I had changed from a wireless to wired connection to the router - so different NIC involved. So I followed Blizzard's advice and disabled Checksum Offload. I still have no idea what this does... ;-)
