View Full Version : Chicks dig the healers
Haha, so you were probbly expecting something lurid from the topic, but this is really just an innocent question.
Recently someone brought to my attention the fact that ALL the female players in his guild play healing classes. This got me thinking, and I started taking a look at my own guild. Turns out that out of all the women in my guild, 2 play Priests (me being one of them, although I'm shadow....Rawr!), 2 are Druids, and one is a Rogue, BUT she is very enthusiasticly levelling up a Holy specced (Yes, Holy!) Priest alt and she says she loves to heal.
Now, I also started taking a closer look at other girls I know of on my server. Turns out that barring two girls (out of around 30 that I know of), all of them chose to play either a Priest or a Druid as a main char. Coincidence? I wonder. Either way, this made me very curious. Could it be that women are subconsciously attracted to healing classes because of some sort of maternal instinct? Has anyone else ever noticed this sort of thing, or am I just living in the Twilight Zone?

My guild:
Girls
- 3 hunters
- 1 warlock
- 1 priest
I might be missing some of the newer members, but don't look to hold true. I'd say they're more inclined to pet classes ;P

Well... Yeah... we were heh heh :censored:
Anyway, my guild has 2 women in it. One plays a Mage (and VERY well at that.) and our other was playing a 'lock as main and has switched to a Druid.
I am not 100% sure of the rest of our server, as I am kinda in my own little 'guild' world, and don't pay much attention to anyone other than any alliance that gets in front of me:evil:
I have, however, figured out that 99.9% of the female toons are in actually, 12-25 year old boy's who want to stare at their night elf

well off the 3 girls I know that play wow
one plays a mage but has a priest (holy) alt
other plays a shaman (she likes the doggy form)
and the last one plays a warrior and rogue.
Draw your own conclusions

I can't speak for my server (Moonglade-EU), of course, but I as a woman actually am NOT fond of healing classes. My favorite characters are a Rogue, a Mage and a Warlock, and even though I do have a priest alt, I play her very occasionally, and mainly to learn the class (it makes it easier to know what to do and not do when I later on group with a priest on my other chars).
I have characters in two guilds, and most of our female players aren't healers. They seem to tend more toward Mage and Warlock, in fact. Then, these guilds are small, so it's probably not very representative.
(And no kidding... I don't like being the healer. I prefer deal damage than have to keep some idiots, er, I mean, other characters, yes, yes, other characters, that's it, alive ;))

Hm, my main characters are: Hunter, Warlock, Mage. But the other girls in my guild include priest, pally, druid, warlock and hunter. While I'll admit I personally don't like melee tanking classes, I would say I -don't- prefer healers, I don't like the responsibility.
None of the other girls in my guild seem to lean overmuch that way, either. A stereotype will of course include some truth, but like all stereotypes, its not actually that accurate.
I have, however, figured out that 99.9% of the female toons are in actually, 12-25 year old boy's who want to stare at their night elf
If my own experience is any standard, I've met more RL girls playing Horde than on Alliance, myself included. A lot of girls prefer playing characters that won't get harassed and ogled by wierdos once they find out we're female.

Eh, let's not forget that Druid is not actually a healing class. Healing just happens to be one skill of a druid's wide arsenal, just like a shaman. Would you call shaman a healing class? Unless it's endgame only, I would not. Same goes for druids.

I'd agree with that comment. My GF plays horde and is accepted for who she is (A damn good warlock), she played Alliance for 3 months, as soon as she got to the raiding stage and talked on teamspeak she was bombarded with whispers by perv 15 year olds.
One of my guildies actually went and asked the top 10 guilds on my server for numbers for a uni paper he was writing, this is stripped from his findings and off our old guild site (about 2 months old)
The gals:
Majority about 70% play main char DPS (rogues, locks and mages) as female toons
Only 20% played healers/hybrids as female toons
The remaining gals choose male toons
Almost all gals with DPS mains had alt healing classes, mostly being female toons.. but many were not lvl 60
The lads:
About 45% play main char (non healer) as a male character
About 25% play main char (healer/hybrid) as a male character (shaman heavy server)
About 20% play main char (healer) as a female character
The last 10% play main char (non healer) as a female character
Many of the lads had many alts per account (most also at lvl 60) so numbers were quite hard to determine.. had to use the most comonly used raiding char to show as their mains
** This is only based on selective info from my current EU server (Horde side), there are exceptions to the info above but this is the general trends.
SO.. I would say at least on my server 2 months ago we had plenty of gals playing WoW, but angry damage dealing banshee gals and not kind fluffy healing type gals

I am with Aerath, most girls I know (me included) like the pet classes. I have a Warlock and several hunters - I do have healer alts which I love and my next 60 (after this current one) will be a priest. Discipline though

I'm in an end-game raiding guild and amongst the lvl 60s we have 6 (afaik) female players: mage (me), druid, paladin, warrior, rogue and priest. I know 6 other females that play - 4 warriors (including possibly the best tanking warrior on the whole server) and 2 druids.

We've got five female players in our guild, and they play a Priest, a Warlock, a Hunter, a Rogue and a mean ele/enh Shaman, respectively.

Yep, pets :)
Wife picked the NE Hunter solely because she could name her pet. She also shuns away from healing since according to her healers don't really partake in the action. That's not what my Druid thinks when he's healing a crit-mad Aimed Shotting meleeing Hunter who only uses Feign Death to save her own hiney. He gets PLENTY of action :p. And that pet? That's just for additional damage and off-tanking adds :)

Months back now, pre-Fall '05, I started a priest and thought a bit about what sex to make the character. I'm male and play mostly male toons but as my first healer, i figured i'd be better watched in a group if i played a female toon - basically i thought i'd get a quicker response to aggro issues or adds if i the priest was female. This did seem to be the case.
that said, i was quickly creeped out by some of the /whispers and finally shelved her after being followed around a few times by some very lonely people...

Wow, you guys are either in small guilds or you are seriously lacking in the female department.
We've got several females in all our classes except warlocks, which we're currently short on in general.

A girl I work with plays a Warrior and has commented to me on more than 1 occasion that she hates playing a healer.

My wife plays a NE hunter.... my other friend main is a 60 rogue, she plays a warrior... on my server she does indeed play a priest, but a shadow one.
Oh and Wintrow, I feel your pain... aggro chain goes from her pet, to her, she feigns... who is left? yeah the poor 55th level druid taking on all 4 59th level frost sabers... yeah yeah thats it =]

Being a female gamer "IRL" (being a 49 year old nun I wouldn't exactly consider myself a "chic") I have tried most of the classes (exception is warrior). My sole level 60 is a paladin. I did try a priest and a druid class (both up to level 28) and find that I absolutely DESPISE the healer class. Having tried alot of new classes, my first consideration was not just what would I enjoy playing leveling up, but would I enjoy the role endgame. My first qualification was that whatever the class was it would NOT EVEN BE CAPABLE of healing anyone in combat. I hate playing the healing classes just that much.
My new main character of choice? A hunter. Wherever I go, my pet Raging Aga'mar boar (I have named "Wigglesmom") and my non-combat pet (the pig from the orphan quest named "Mr.Wiggles") go with me.
