Not on this site. Skin type modification are not allowed here anymore, as they have been stated by Blizzard as being off limits.

I know what it is, but not where it's hosted. Due to a lot of hearsay and general naivete concerning mods which alter the "skins" of in-game objects, most of the larger modders sites (this one included) have gone off all paranoid and stopped hosting them.

I'd say google it. These mods are out there, still quite alive and well.

"Due to a lot of hearsay and general naivete concerning mods which alter the "skins" of in-game objects"

Hmm, well, the fact that they can be used to gain an advantage, and also the fact that blizzard have stated that in future that the game will check to see that the assets haven't been tampered with might be a small factor.

Of course, there's a lot of angy 12 year-olds who will be denied their fix of nelf boobies, but such is life.

I fail to see how coloring an item differently provides any distinct or significant advantage of any sort. So I'll once again say that I think a lot of folks are woefully confused as to who these oft-referred to posts are in fact, pertaining to. If not for that reason, then for others:

...also the fact that blizzard have stated that in future that the game will check to see that the assets haven't been tampered with might be a small factor.

Well, Blizzard is more than welcome to check their assets for tampering that hasn't occured (at least as far as skinning mods go, at any rate).

And if they really wanted to stop skinners they could do it much more simply by, oh, I dunno, removing a functionality they wrote into the game in the first place- one that they themselves apparently never use but on the other hand makes it real easy for any joe user to alter the display of items in the game (as far as the client machine is concerned) that, oddly enough, works without touching a single blessed one of their MPQ archives, and thus falls outside the "do not alter any of our files" portion of the ToS.

I think the fact that they haven't removed that provision in the code is rather more telling than any nebulous threats of "asset monitoring" which will not in any case affect skinning methods currently in use.

Or to put it more simply:

Blizzard opened the door for Skinners- what they've been doing isn't the result of some forced hack or exploit- Blizzard could just as easily close that door if they so wished.

Yawn, lack of nelf boobies must be a real pain, Skunk, but keep going with the half-baked self-justification.
